Labour are currently tying themselves in knots as they are being asked to define what they mean by a "working person". Let's not forget their manifesto promise not to increase taxes for "working people". Which taxes have they increased so far for working people, an admittedly hard class of workers to define? An answer to that will be interesting

No tax rises in payslips for 'working people', vows minister..by Kate Whannel, Political reporteri.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/27/10/91335199-0-image-m-17_1730023413522.jpgEducation Secretary Bridget Phillipson has said "working people" would not see higher taxes on their payslips following Wednesday's Budget. During the election, Labour promised not to increase taxes on working people but ministers have since come under pressure to define exactly who that covers. Appearing on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Phillipson said the manifesto pledge referred to people "whose main source of income is the income they earn from going out to work". She avoided saying if she thought business owners could be considered working people. Conservative shadow science secretary Andrew Griffith accused Labour of coming into government on "a false prospectus that things would be easy". "They essentially lie to the British people in terms of their plans," he added. Shortly after coming into power, the Labour government accused the Conservatives of leaving a "£22bn black hole" in public finances. In order to avoid cutting public spending, Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to announce some tax rises when she sets out the Budget next week. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/22/11/89961759-13878605-image-a-1_1727002103539.jpgThe government is looking at increasing tax on asset sales, such as shares and property, changes to inheritance tax and freezing income tax thresholds. Continuing the government's previous freeze of tax thresholds would see more people move into higher tax bands and could raise an estimated £7bn for the government. Speaking on Sunday, Phillipson said she could not give specific information on what would be in the Budget but said: "When people look at payslips they will not see higher taxes. "That is a very clear commitment." She added that the government wanted to "break the doom loop of ever higher taxes on working people and lower growth". Asked if she, as a minister earning up to £160,000, counted as a working person, she replied: "My income derives form my job and I’ll pay whatever taxes required of me." On whether a small business owner would count as a working person, she said she could not go into specific details about "who may or may not be captured in tax measures that may or may not happen in the Budget". She said she understood people's frustration but added: "They haven't got long to wait." She reiterated the government's message that ministers faced "tough choices" following the "inheritance" left by the previous Conservative government. On the same programme, Griffith accused the government of behaving "at the very least like the worst form of dodgy car hire firm, conjuring up small print that never existed".

Can't wait for the copy and paste of the upcoming budget Well done Les, you have responded with the 'Lesism' that has become popular to yourself and have made your very own... As a 72 yr-old, supposed educated man, i really am disappointed in you Les, i really expect more from you as a human being.

2TK has signed us up to officially talking about reparations £s ,for countries adversely effected by the slave trade.
Ha! What a snivelling s**t that bloke is.
Oh the shame! White and British. We should give all of our belongings away to black people and go and live in a hedge.
The shame.

Basel said. 2TK could of just said 'don't talk bollocks,we're not talking about it'.Obviously with the usual diplomacy. I posted the other day that wiping the slate clean,on a countrys national debt, might be a good idea. Thing is I don't know if this is appropriate as I don't know what countries owe us money and how much. Has'nt China complicated things by loaning some Commonwealth countries money and perhaps stirring things up between these countries and the UK? Then I ask myself, slavery was a long long time ago,at least when we were involved, sohow justified are reparations.I mean if a country is still struggling, just how much blame can be put on GBs slave trade?

In footage obtained by the Daily Mail,, external the Runcorn and Helsby MP is apparently seen continuing to hit the man as he lies in the street. It comes after a different video, posted on X, purported to show Amesbury shouting and swearing at the man lying in the street in Frodsham, Cheshire. Amesbury has been contacted for comment. In a statement issued before the Daily Mail footage emerged, Cheshire Police said: “At 02:48 BST on Saturday 26 October police were called to reports of an assault in Frodsham. “A caller reported he had been assaulted by a man in Main Street. Enquiries are ongoing.” Posting on his own Facebook page on Saturday, the 55-year-old backbencher said: "Last night I was involved in an incident that took place after I felt threatened following an evening out with friends. "This morning I contacted Cheshire Police myself to report what happened. "I will not be making any further public comment but will of course cooperate with any inquiries if required by Cheshire Police." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/27/14/91339293-0-image-a-3_1730039214741.jpg Amesbury launches a punch seemingly without physical provocation and then continuing to hit the man six times while he lay on the ground

I was just about to post about this BT, i saw the video the MP sounded pi$$ed up to me,terrible really for a man of his age and position, still when Blair made light of Prescott's act of violence ( "John will be John" giggle) I suppose it set the tone.

Be interesting IF he was ousted from his seat by his actions, what a by election, if called for, could throw up, especially if the up and coming budget doesn't go down well with the punters...🤔

The Labour MP Amesbury ,comes across as a drunken thug to me.The sort of asshole that ruins peoples night out.
He won the seat by a big majority for Labour at the GE,but if he is sacked, perhaps even imprisoned, a byelection might be a lot closer.

Mike Amesbury,Labour MP ,just a short while ago voted for tougher sentences for the rioters.
He'll be hoping for a custodial sentence then.
Maybe he can share a cell with the Labour Counciller, slit their throats Ricky Jones.
It's believed acid was not involved in either of these cases.
Phew!

This MP has to resign. I don't give a toss what party he belongs to in all honesty. This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable in someone holding a public office.
