I'm much more prone to optimism than your average football plan (I know, slow learner), but I'm looking at this squad and finding it really encouraging. Great job MT, GF, the Al Saeeds, and the rest Maybe you and I are wrong, and they've blown good money on the wrong players, but the signings have encouraged me greatly too.

Signing the players is one thing, getting them to play together as a unit is the hard part and one that the Rovers have sometimes struggled with in the past, I reckon we should know after the first half a dozen games or so how things will pan out for us this term.

As August approaches I start feeling optimistic, as I always do. This time it feels we are not just signing people and hoc, but recruiting to plan. It feels like that. 3 Year contracts being indicative.

What I've had my eye on is, do the players signed fit with Matt Taylor's style of football,or at least my understanding of what his style is? The answer is apparently yes. So I'm more hopeful now than I was a while ago.

Scotty is looking sharp pre-season, and his fitness is never in question. If he fancies a swan song season, this new one may be the one.

Yes that is the hardest thing. I’ve seen many very good players at Rovers but only about half a dozen very good ‘teams’. Never any guarantees but I guess it’s why we look to see the smaller partnerships that spring up in the beginning before spreading to the whole team being a good partnership. We haven’t seen one of those in League 1 for a long, long time. UTG!

Just to say, Beefy thoroughly applauded the crowd on being substituted last night. Maybe an auf wieder sehen at least.

If last night was Beefy's Swansong he will be the final scouser to leave the building......will he end up at Shrewsbury before the weeks out?

Why is he called Beefy?
He's one of the least beefy centre-backs we've had. It isn't an alliteration, like Botham.
Does he like his steaks? Or is it a case of bad wind in the dressing room?

Jed Ward has signed a season long loan deal with Forest Green Rovers. My initial reaction is wtf! May have missed a beat here but who is our starting keeper now?
