Interesting Oldie. Now, what was your reaction a couple of weeks ago when someone posted a humorous video of Starmer? You replied, "Really You think that is clever?" You also added, "It's a bit like posting up a Tommy Cooper video and asking people to take it seriously. I grant you that your side of the debate has little else to offer." Now, what is the word I am looking for.......begins with hy It's clearly a joke Nobby What's the matter with you They both were.

Interesting that after being the official Democratic nominee for President for 24 days, Harris has still not given one interview to the media, nor given a single press conference. As of yet, nobody has any idea of her policies. It's almost as if they are scared of showing her to the public. It's going to be a train wreck for her against Trump. It's best that they keep her away from any interview's for as long as possible. She is an incompetent speaker.

In respect of your last point, for me with the war in Ukraine this is possibly the most important US election in my adult life, certainly since Bush beat Gore with his Florida 'hanging chads'. I tend to agree. The impact of an incompetent Trump on Europe could be a disaster. What like it was before...?

Hahaha... And I posted a video on here last week of Starmer, that was a piss take of him, but it was also 100% true, and you got on your high horse asking me if I thought the video I shared was clever....🤥🤯

The funnest thing about your post, is the double standard of it, which Nobby just pointed out to you. 🙈🦧

Who's 'they', who are trying this again? And how will it ensure the Democrats win, if that's what you're implying? Unhinged conspiracy theories are great because you can pin virtually anything on anyone and make up any old reason to justify it. Then post it on X for your followers to lap up. And bingo, 24 hours later it's a verified fact. Brilliant. Repeat the lie long enough and it becomes fact. Unsubstantiated opinion overrides facts these days. Listen to Question Time. Emily Maitlis - But yesterday Maitlis gave the MacTaggart Lecture to the Edinburgh Television Festival. In it she tackles the issue of bias, citing the example of the way that Newsnight covered Brexit: “It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it… But by the time we went on air we simply had one of each; we presented this unequal effort to our audience as balance. It wasn’t.”So did any of you see the video I'm talking about in regards to the CNN's edit of Trump's words on nuclear power or not? Quoting riddles doesn't answer my question.

A convention booked so long ago nobody can recall exactly when. A nominee who has been gathering political momentum for weeks...in Chicago, a heavily Democratic city. Yet we get a photo of a couple of hundred pro Palestinian demonstrators. As the saying goes, if you have nothing to say, say nothing at all. On a personal level I hope it goes well and the Dems knock chunks out of Trump's posturing. We shall see. A month ago I thought it was a far gone conclusion, but not now. Well done Harris.

After an absolute shake-up of the landscape of the 2024 presidential election in the last month, Democrats are finally convening to make their candidate official.

In June, Biden was still the candidate Democrats were prepared to nominate. But in early July, doubts started to swirl over whether the 81-year-old would actually be put up after his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump. On July 21, the President officially ended his reelection bid and endorsed Harris. A day later, she earned the support of enough delegates to become the presumed candidate for November. Now, Democratic delegates are prepared to end this week by nominating Harris as their 2024 presidential candidate with running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as the vice president. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/18/21/88659181-13736445-image-a-7_1724012574952.jpgOn Day One of the DNC, Democratic delegates will officially vote Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as their presidential and vice presidential nominees

Waiting now for Elon Mush to start posting on Donald Trump's behalf. His criticism of the UK Government and attempt at challenging it is seen by some commentators as a precursor to his attempt to influence the US elections. It's a long time to November and I believe things are about to get a bit tasty as DT falls further behind.

Obamas call on Americans to back ‘new chapter’ with Harris..by Caitlin Wilson at the convention and Brandon Livesayichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/c6d3/live/6e0c1210-5f72-11ef-b43e-6916dcba5cbf.jpgFormer US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have given impassioned endorsements of Kamala Harris on the second night of the Democratic National Convention They urged voters to back a "new chapter' with her in back-to-back speeches that electrified the audience in a packed arena in Chicago Both called on Democrats to get out and vote and said November's election was going to be very close Polls suggest Harris has a slight lead on Donald Trump nationally, but the US election will be decided in a handful of key swing states In her speech Michelle Obama mocked Donald Trump directly, asking if he knew he was running for a "black job", referring to being president The Republican candidate has come under fire for saying migrants are taking "black jobs" in the US Meanwhile, protests outside the Israeli consulate in Chicago turned tense, with scuffles breaking out as as demonstrators marched towards police clad in riot gear The four-day convention formally anoints Harris as the Democratic presidential contender; Donald Trump had his convention last month after surviving an assassination attempt

The Obamas captivate Democrat convention and endorse Kamala Harris..by Nadia Ragozhina and Jacqueline Howardichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/54e7/live/65cbcd10-5f8c-11ef-b970-9f202720b57a.jpgThe Obamas both took the opportunity to use their convention speeches to back Kamala Harris's White House bid as well as tear into her Republican opponent, Donald Trump. Michelle Obama spoke in support of Harris, saying "something wonderfully magical is in the air...the contagious power of hope" and that she was "more than ready for this moment". She contrasted the upbringing of Harris with that of the "generational wealth" of Donald Trump, saying Harris's story is "your story...the story of the vast majority of Americans trying to build a better life". Obama also criticised Trump for his attacks on her and her husband, and one line that got a huge roar of approval was her taunt over his claim that migrants were taking 'black jobs', questioning if he realised that the job he was running for was one of them. Barack Obama told the convention that the "torch has been passed" between Biden and Harris, but warned that Democrats faced a "tight fight" for the presidency. He said that the US was ready for a President Harris and that she was ready for the job and would work to unite the country. Obama said America did not need another four years of Donald Trump, saying: "We have seen that movie before - and we all know that the sequel is usually worse." He described the former president as a billionaire "who has not stopped whining about his problems" and when mention of Trump prompted the crowd to boo, said: "Do not boo. Vote".

Tim Walz accepts VP nomination, telling Democrats 'we're not going back'..by Brandon Livesay and Emily McGarveyichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/d3f8/live/d64572e0-603a-11ef-b970-9f202720b57a.jpgAn emotional Tim Walz issued a rallying cry for Democrats as he accepted the vice-presidential nomination. "We’ll sleep when we’re dead. And we’re gonna leave it all on the field," he told the party convention In a headline speech in Chicago, Kamala Harris's running mate touted his small-town upbringing and career as a teacher and coach It came after Oprah Winfrey made a surprise appearance on stage, telling the raucous crowd to back Harris in November Former US President Bill Clinton, in his 12th consecutive convention speech, hailed Harris as "extraordinary" and took aim at Donald Trump who he said "creates chaos" Meanwhile, demonstrators are marching on the streets of Chicago for the fourth day running, protesting against US support for Israel's war in Gaza Despite Democrats appearing energised by the new Harris-Walz ticket, polls suggest a very close race with Trump and his own running mate, JD Vance

Donald Trump speaks from inside bullet-proof glass box..by Graeme Baker, US reporteri.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/21/20/88782603-0-He_then_leaned_over_a_barrier_and_hugged_a_woman_in_the_crowd_wh-a-69_1724270309984.jpgEarlier today, Donald Trump held his first open-air rally since an attempt on his life in Pennsylvania on 13th July. The Republican presidential nominee was protected at the Asheboro, North Carolina event by a bullet-proof glass screen erected around the podium - a security measure in response to the July attack. He was introduced by his running mate, JD Vance, who said Trump had given up a life of "everything you could want" to run for president. "They couldn't beat him at the ballot box so they tried to bankrupt him. They failed so they tried to impeach him," said Vance. "They failed at that so they tried to put him in prison. And they even tried to kill him... Donald Trump still stands." Trump walked several metres from the backstage to the podium, none of which was protected by bullet-proof glass. "Just wanted to thank JD... Doing a fantastic job," said Trump.

Donald Trump abandons bulletproof glass to check on audience member..by Nick Alleni.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/21/23/88786987-13766485-The_former_president_then_reached_into_the_crowd_and_embraced_th-a-19_1724279005398.jpgDonald Trump abandoned the protection of his newly installed bulletproof glass to go check on a member of his audience who needed medical attention. Suddenly, there was a commotion in the crowd and people could be heard shouting 'Medic!'. Trump, who was talking about UFC and boxing, stopped and looked. He then said into the microphone: 'A doctor, please...' It was not immediately clear what the medical emergency was. After a pause, Trump went on: 'It is very hot here, I notice. It is very hot. A lot of the people waited for days to get here. I understand it. Take your time, doctor, take your time, thank you.' He then leaned over a barrier and hugged a woman in the crowd who appeared to be recovering and drinking a bottle of water. After he returned to the stage Trump said: 'You know, they come two, three days early and it's a lot of stress. He added: 'Thank you very much. Thanks doctor.' During his speech, Trump railed against Vice President Kamala Harris' approach to national security. He told a raucous crowd: 'The world is on fire, and Kamala and Biden have marched us to the brink of World War III."

Anyway Moving on from the mindless and inane cut and paste from the Daily Mail, here is an interesting article written from an American perspective and published in The New Republic, a magazine I subscribe to. newrepublic.com/article/185135/democratic-convention-harris-defined-trump?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=thenewrepublic%2Fmagazine%2FBreaking+NewsSome interesting points on the strategy adopted by the Democrats, particularly since the change of nominee. This was a point I could buy into "Biden’s pro-democracy message, though clearly deeply felt, also felt like the end product of a campaign and a candidate that was struggling badly to articulate a countermessage. Voters were skeptical of the clear progress that had been made under Biden and they blamed him for inflation, even though the United States had clearly done a much better job of managing the post-pandemic economy than any other advanced nation. Voters were, meanwhile, deeply suspicious of Biden’s ability to serve a second term as the oldest president in American history. To overcome these liabilities, his campaign hammered a message that made Biden a secondary figure in his own reelection: You might not like him, but with the fate of American democracy on the line, you’d better vote for him anyways. What Harris has brought to Chicago is a candidate with the flexibility and popularity to run a much broader and more sweeping campaign. The vice president has been widely praised for the seamlessness with which she took on the mantle as her party’s presumptive—and now official—nominee. But her ability to shift messages (while retaining much of the same staff and infrastructure put in place by Biden) has arguably been more impressive" Read it for yourselves
