Bristol Rovers set to miss out on transfer target to League One rivals Charlton..By Daniel Hargraveswpcluster.dctdigital.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2023/07/20787101-xgdyq000-e1716992826363-620x372.jpgBristol Rovers had a bid accepted for Dunfermline Athletic left-back Josh Edwards but the 24-year-old has elected to move elsewhere Bristol Rovers look set to miss out on the signing of Dunfermline Athletic left-back Josh Edwards to League One rivals Charlton Athletic, Bristol Live understands, after both clubs saw bids accepted by the Scottish Championship side, as first reported by the Courier. However, the understanding is that Charlton have made the 24-year-old a better wage offer and the Scotsman has subsequently opted to move to South London as opposed to Bristol. The Addicks will be targeting a much-improved and less turbulent campaign this year after finishing 16th in the third tier last term which saw three managers in charge at the Valley. Former Southampton and Luton Town boss Nathan Jones is currently in charge with this summer his first at the helm. Edwards made 42 appearances for Dunfermline last season, scoring four goals and providing nine assists as the Pars finished sixth in the Scottish second tier. The left-back came through the youth system at Airdrieonians before a move to Dunfermline in 2019 and has since made 182 appearances for the Scottish outfit having turned 24 last month. Both Rovers and Charlton are yet to make a signing this summer but for the Gas left-back is a position that particularly needs addressing after Lewis Gordon's release and the expiry of Harvey Vale's loan from Chelsea. They also lost George Friend in February when the club's new Director of Football retired to take on his current role in the recruitment department. The Gas are expected to have a hectic transfer window in preparation for their 2024/25 League One season after 13 players departed the club at the end of the previous campaign while this is also Matt Taylor's first summer in charge with the upcoming window allowing the 42-year-old to start sculpting his squad in his own image. The summer transfer window doesn't officially open until next Friday (June 14th) while Rovers players are expected back at The Quarters for the start of pre-season training on July 1st.
