averaged 7,000 home attendance this season per the Beeb, in spite of only winning one game home or away I know that the prices were very low, but that's still very strong. And apparently they are staying at Trashton for next season too gives our own Gas Girls something to work towards PS just about managed to desist from titling the thread 'Sh*t women'. That's something else entirely, and not for here  |

Our women's promotion is something really to enjoy, and long may it continue. While our men have yet to achieve parity with the red pests, it's lovely to see our women two divisions closer to league derbies. Long may it continue. I did pay to see the old Gas Girls in (probably around) 2003 at least twice, including at the Mem (only the West stand and probably terrace were open) and I think it was very cheap then. Up the Gas, all Gas.

Point 1 - they had 12,008 for Arsenal; 14,138 for Manchester United and 9,442 for Chelsea - those were the biggest three crowds by a distance with a couple sub-5k crowds at either end of the season. Point 2 - I may be being a pedant but IMO, they weren't outnumbered by the away support in ANY game this season. The three games I've listed above attracted a huge amount of fans that were either fringe City fans or pure neutrals that were drawn in by the chance of meeting the likes of Mary Earps, Chloe Kelly and the other Lionesses. In terms of away support, those clubs brought good numbers but never more than the home support. As regards next season, the crowds as you say will be well down without those big clubs coming to town but fair play to them, it's a statement of faith to continue playing at AG rather than the HPC. |

I've only seen them twice - both occasions were FA Cup semi-finals One was at the Mem, where I stood on the West Enclosure and was one of very few men there (the closest was about 50 yards away, and we sort of nodded at a distance to acknowledge each other!). The other was somewhere near London but in Essex - Ilford or Romford I think, where there were very few Gas The standard was much lower back then, but both games were an enjoyable watch, apart from the result. Glad I went |

Thanks. 1) Yes, I thought there was more than 1 game with a big crowd, but wasn't sure how many, hence saying at least one big crowd. And this proves those big crowds skewed the overall figure for the average. Take those 3 games out and the other 8 games averaged around 5,100, which I'll admit is still impressive. 2) Thanks for confirming. I didn't attend any games, and not likely to ever! I was going by what friends had told me who had taken their children. They were saying that as well as the 'away' section, a lot of kids in the home seats were cheering on the away teams, and wearing their colours. And on a couple of occasions I had the Radio Bristol on in the car, and you could only hear the away supporters. But BCFC Women have done very well, attracted a lot of kids to the games. Unfortunately for Rovers, any new fans going to watch BCFC Women are more likely to subsequently have an affiliation with BCFC Men. So it's important the Gas Girls continue to grow. |

As for hearing only the away supporters, it kind of depended on the games; the longer City were still in matches, the home crowd were very vocal but in games where they conceded early, their failure to be able to get back into games made for a subdued atmosphere. I'd also say that the visiting teams that had Lionesses are the bigger teams usually and attract a wider support base including men's fans. 3) 100% agree. To butcher the old cliche, "the best time to grow the women's game was five years ago, the second best time is now." Bristol is a huge city with plenty of room for two successful teams, be that male or female. Would be great to see Rovers Women's team generate some real momentum and grow even bigger. |

I remember one Saturday in late 60s /early 70s Rovers played Portsmouth early afternoon in a friendly and we all walked over to the library to watch them play Chelsea as my cousin was a Chelsea fan! A load of idiots kicked over some bins in City Road and the residents piled out from everywhere. I have never seen anyone run so fast! |

I notify them of goals, corners, free kicks, cards and subs basically. For the games where there is no stream (most PL2, u18PL and Women's Championship) I provide pretty much a running commentary on the game which includes all the above plus throw-ins and have to identify where on the pitch it has happened, again down a phone line. Although I've done more than 400 games now (and my two youngest lads also work for OPTA and have done 600+ games between them), I missed the big one v Scunthorpe a few seasons back. I'd done a few rugby games that year and was offered a European Cup quarter final at Leicester Tigers that day. Thinking Rovers had no chance, I plumped for the rugby and will regret it for ever. |

I would'nt be surprised if the 'non partisan' ( more or less ) fan made abit of a comeback Chesh.It already has with many enjoying non EFL, rather than the FC they once supported. The money at the top end seems to of made things harder for FCs below.Luton Towns one season at the top was a minor miracle. Disillusioned fans that are fed up with the greed and politics in the game,but still enjoy what goes on on the field of play will realise they enjoy a game at Cirencester Town as much as eg Swindon Town,quite possibly more. This could be how it's going to a certain extent.Rovers, City, Swindon, Oxford,Villa,Birmingham who cares?,As long as it's a good game. |

Yeah, I do enjoy rivalry and banter, but I do value people who go to the football for the football. Read Uncle Eppers, the Wookie, and others' travels around non-league on their Where Are You Going thread next door for good examples of just enjoying the game, live.
