But surely that won't happen whilst Wael remains in situ? We know he takes criticism very much to heart. I honestly don't think the Club can move forward while Wael is in the building. He needs to go. That's me speaking from an objective point of view. I'm not emotionally invested any more. In the first few weeks after his arrival Wael was asked a very strange question which went something like “ what would make you leave ?”. Most people would have expressed surprise at that question and replied that they weren’t thinking of leaving because they’d only just got here and had a lot of work to do. But Wael said he would leave when the fans didn’t want him any more. I think that says a lot about him and shows his main motivation for being at Rovers was because he wanted to be adored and the “ carrying down Gloucester Road” must have been a high point for him ( pun intended). It hasn’t been much fun exposing the myths which Wael has cultivated and which I guess are intended to be his legacy because it puts me at odds with most Gasheads. We were told that he “ funded the club through COVID” but not that Dwane actually had to put less into the club during that year because the real heroes were the fans who bought and paid for season tickets. We are led to believe the South Stand is an asset but nobody talks about it costing twice as much as budgeted, the huge interest charges it incurs and the lack of disabled seating, toilet facilities and catering outlets which it was intended to have. The less said about the B***** era the better but at least fans can now see from the accounts how his reckless spending couldn’t have been allowed to continue. The training ground is supposed to be the jewel in the crown and I see on Gaschat that Chewbacca has posted pictures comparing our 2.7 million/ 500K pa running cost facility with that of local amateur club AEK Boco which may finally bring home to some Gasheads what a pup we’ve been sold. Because he insisted on retaining a 45% stake the club was forced to forsake the opportunity to bring in owners with the resources to transform it into a professionally managed entity with modern facilities. Instead we remain as rag bag Rovers the plaything of the son of a relatively rich man. At some point the pandering to Wael has to stop and Gasheads must face reality. Thought it was a pic of Exeter training ground.

I think the intention with the Exeter picture was to show what can be achieved with a little forethought and planning.

Thar was his point in an answer to someone saying that was as good.

Make your mind up one minute your saying we should have continued to rent a training ground, the next why didn't Wael spend a £1m+ more on additional pitches etc for the Academy. Perhaps the simple answer is that he couldn't afford to spend any more money.

We're all just living in Wael's world. Wael had a lot of goodwill and enthusiastic support when he and his family took over. Say what you like about Geoff Dunford, but he did considerably more for the club, and also got considerably more s*it for it. My hope and goodwill lasted up until the end of the first season in D1 after DC's promotion. After this, the considerable positive momentum, which had little or nothing to do with the Al-Qadi investment, was lost.

But I bet it didn’t cost 2.7 million to build or 500K pa to run. The real point is that if this is a showpiece legacy achievement how is it that we are even making comparisons with AEK Boco ?

I’ve said consistently, since before the development started, that we should have continued to rent a training facility until we were able to do the job properly.

It’s been a hard job trying to persuade Gasheads that Wael’s actions have caused lasting damage to Rovers but more and more fans can see it now. I think the Al- Saeeds would have a better chance of success if they acknowledged the mess they inherited and explained why a period of austerity is necessary. But surely that won't happen whilst Wael remains in situ? We know he takes criticism very much to heart. I honestly don't think the Club can move forward while Wael is in the building. Swiss is probably right but it won’t happen. I’m not sure why Wael still wants to be involved apart from the kudos he thinks it gives. As an objective exercise it serves little purpose except I presume he’s liable for circa 40% of any losses. But mixed messages and stuff doesn’t help. UTG!

The training ground was paid for by the COVID insurance and grant money which I'm led to believe was around 3million. As soon as that Money ran out it stopped hence no phases 2 and 3. The training ground is not fit for purpose we still have to rent facilities to train when the pitches freeze and it only just accommodates the first team and staff. Contrary to popular myth I believe a lot of clubs made money during the pandemic and Rovers would certainly be one of them. The training ground used by Citys opponents, some aiming for the prem and recently by an international squad is not for purpise.

Much as I respect Swiss's greater experience, I want Rovers to own both the Memorial and training grounds and the raise them into a legacy for Gas future, at least until Ikea Bristol closes or relocates. Renting and remortgaging is folly to me. If the gossip about furniture is true, then I despair.

No need to despair Shoveler but selling the fixtures & fittings to raise cash isn’t gossip it’s fact as per note 12 of the 2023 accounts. The accounts also show the Mem has been revalued upwards by 5 million from 11 million to 16 million so I daresay that will assist with the security for another mortgage through Nationwide Finance Ltd to pay for the extra seating to be tacked onto the East Stand. Owning assets is fine if you can afford it.

I doubt the pitches being frozen last winter was a regular occurrence, although I'd imagine renting an all weather pitch a few times a year is a lot cheaper than building one.

Often visit as it is very near me.Very impressive and used a great deal for community involvement.
