It could get a lot lot worse if there is a full blown schism.
We have a 45% shareholder who is rousing up his social media followers to believe that 2022 was a glory year for Rovers. This was the year that Rovers ( total spend £11.9 million) came third in the fourth division behind Forest Green ( total spend £6.5 million) and Exeter City ( total spend £6.7 million). It was also the year that we were so short of cash that we had to sell fixtures and fittings and lease them back with a commitment to make monthly repayments of £ 3,679.00 plus interest for five years. At the end of this glorious year things were so bad that Rovers were desperately scrambling around to find someone to bail us out.
We have a 55% shareholder who has painted himself into a corner with promises of a redeveloped stadium, a completely new training ground built to a category 2 academy standard and promotion to the Championship within either three years or three to five years dependent on which statement you choose. We want to believe these promises are genuine but as time passes and nothing of substance is revealed it’s looking very much like a repeat of the fantasies we were subjected to between 2016 and the glory year of 2022.
If a business partnership is real then the partners will be working together to achieve a common aim. It’s quite possible to have a partnership with one of the partners actively leading the business and the other remaining silent in the background while contributing financially in proportion to their shareholding. But what we have in this Rovers partnership is not at all clear because there is no sign of the partners working together but there are signs that the 45% partner is engaging with fans on social media and to all intents and purposes encouraging them to believe that things were better when he held control.
Should this carry on I fear there will be a confrontation which could end up being fatal for Rovers. I think it’s vital for our club that either the partners are seen to be working together in harmony, the minority partner remains silent or he surrenders his shareholding to the majority shareholder or to someone else who can make a positive contribution to Rovers.

This was a gaffe, and exposed Gorringe as unable to apologise for his boss, but this is nothing as sinister as Barton Rovers's victimless crime statement. Just a bit of a shambles.

Tom Gorringe was never CEO material. We all wished him well with his promotion, but I think most knew he was going to be out of his depth.
Almost as if he 'does feel his title hang loose about him, like a giant's robe upon a dwarfish thief'
As for Wael working with the AlSaeeds, as swiss says, there is no sign of this. If anything their relationship would appear to be divisive.
So I think the omnishambolic situation is destined to continue. Until Wael exits stage left.
Perhaps then the AlSaeeds can actually tell us what 'the plan' is.
The danger at his point is that they realise they don't really have one, and they also exit stage left.
Leaving us without any actors.

I appreciate that Bas, it is important and the only question is whether it should be aired on a forum or not. But I know people are talking about it and catastrophic scenarios are being discussed ( which are plausible) but rather than just consider the worst case why not chew over the alternative solutions which I’ve put forward ? On the subject of the OP, isn’t it ironic that the hullabaloo over Rovers poorly thought through response to the SC could have been prevented if we used a PR consultant. I think the odds are on it originating from Abdullatif rather than Tom and wouldn’t you think someone working in an unfamiliar business environment and for whom English is not his first language would use all the tools at his disposal to get things done right ? A. This is my planned response to the SC enquiry what do you think ? PR. We understand the message you’re trying to convey and that’s fine. But here is some alternative wording which is more appropriate. |

I'm unaware of any other 4th division owners who have been happy too be carried down their clubs local high street not once but twice following promotion from the basement division. The first time was slightly more understandable but the second time didn't sit well with me at all, combine this with the Mural dedicated to him on the back of a decrepit stand and some other strange behaviour combined with record losses year on year and an a near total failure on the stadium front and now it would seem unharmonious split ownership of the club has left me very concerned and very unimpressed with his time at the club. It’s been a hard job trying to persuade Gasheads that Wael’s actions have caused lasting damage to Rovers but more and more fans can see it now. In the first few weeks after his arrival Wael was asked a very strange question which went something like “ what would make you leave ?”. Most people would have expressed surprise at that question and replied that they weren’t thinking of leaving because they’d only just got here and had a lot of work to do. But Wael said he would leave when the fans didn’t want him any more. I think that says a lot about him and shows his main motivation for being at Rovers was because he wanted to be adored and the “ carrying down Gloucester Road” must have been a high point for him ( pun intended). It hasn’t been much fun exposing the myths which Wael has cultivated and which I guess are intended to be his legacy because it puts me at odds with most Gasheads. We were told that he “ funded the club through COVID” but not that Dwane actually had to put less into the club during that year because the real heroes were the fans who bought and paid for season tickets. We are led to believe the South Stand is an asset but nobody talks about it costing twice as much as budgeted, the huge interest charges it incurs and the lack of disabled seating, toilet facilities and catering outlets which it was intended to have. The less said about the Barton era the better but at least fans can now see from the accounts how his reckless spending couldn’t have been allowed to continue. The training ground is supposed to be the jewel in the crown and I see on Gaschat that Chewbacca has posted pictures comparing our 2.7 million/ 500K pa running cost facility with that of local amateur club AEK Boco which may finally bring home to some Gasheads what a pup we’ve been sold. Because he insisted on retaining a 45% stake the club was forced to forsake the opportunity to bring in owners with the resources to transform it into a professionally managed entity with modern facilities. Instead we remain as rag bag Rovers the plaything of the son of a relatively rich man. At some point the pandering to Wael has to stop and Gasheads must face reality. |
