Cheltenham has lost many great pubs.The Pump and Optic was my favourite.Hewlett Road.Gone but not forgotten.

Ahh!Thanks BT! Nearly always in the Lounge. Doms and Spoof were played with a real fanaticism.Geoff and Viv ran the pub.Geoff drank the dregs,a Darlington fan.I remember he might 'remind' us not to forget to take our friend "Stanley" to football ( Stanley blade ).🙂 'Pete The Cheese' had a certain Jen Pitman as a customer ( he sold cheese,funnily enough ).She told him they really fancied their horse Garrison Savannah for the Gold Cup.Come the big day the whole of the Pump and Optic had money on Garrison,many of us at good odds thanks to Jen Pitman tipping Pete the Cheese. GS won.Just.The pub exploded!I won about a weeks wages. Etc. The Pump and Optic was a magnificent English public house. Gob bless Geoff & Viv. |
