How should trolling on this forum be dealt with ? I have always adhered to "dont feed the troll" others put trolls on ignore but I think that perhaps both responses are too weak and that trolls should be banned.
Trolling could be seen as form of online bullying I suppose but in some cases it is more malign,an attempt to put people off of using a forum so that the troll is left as the only person posting and can use the forum to promote their own views.
I wonder what other forum users think ? and what is the forum policy for trolling ?

There have been many occasions where 'Trolls' are banned for a period of time, that is one way of course.
There are people in life generally that do not like confrontation so will back down or reduce their posting.
Others are very srong willed and can stand up to bullies and trolls in person or on a forum.
When i was at school a bully and his mates cornered me for money or food, with the threat of violence. I had no chance, the odds were stacked, but i hit the ringleader with all i had, he went down. I got battered by him and his mates, but they never came calling again, maybe i was lucky.
I will not block anyone with a different opinion to mine, i reply in a polite manner and await their reply.
Everyone are entitled to their opinions, if they swear or personalise things, then that shows themselves up in a bad light.

I understand where you're coming from BT,as I say I dont feed the trolls by replying, but as you say there are other people who just reduce their posting (or maybe stop posting altogether). I have been on other forums where the mods crack down hard on trolling and tbh those forums generally get more people posting which makes things more interesting. I am not talking about people with different views by the way, thats fine and can make for interesting discussion, trolling is a different thing entirely.

I just think some will not accept other people’s views can be different to theirs ( brexit / voting reform ) being two so instead of accepting everyone has different views they go on the Attack , and will not leave it , most posters will just back off , leave that thread , don’t post for a few days , but the ones who won’t accept there views can be different will continue to bait them , they will not leave it . My little time on this board Epping etc do a good job , sensible ,.

I was hoping that Epping might explain his policy re trolling,is it 3 strikes and your out ? 1.a warning.2.a months ban.3. your gone ? I remember that Bas was the victim of relentless trolling it was borderline stalking, inevitably he blew up and was (sadly) banned, that situation could have been nipped in the bud and Bas could still be here.

We need to see a Report if someone feels they are being trolled / bullied. The Mods will look at it, and will respond (usually) in the following way - though it is always on a case by case basis. Mods need to agree before any action is taken. After 4 years in Admin I am always astounded that we all always agreed. 1. PM a firm warning. If the troll continues, 2. PM a final warning. If the troll continues. Mods will agree on length of ban. Typically 1 month. 3. After the ban if the troll continues then we would issue a 3 to 6 month ban. Re: Bas. I felt he had views which were borderline racist, but I went out of may to defend him and allow 'free speech'. Where do you draw the line between allowing someone to cause offence and allowing freedom of speech? Believe me, it is not easy. We do our best. Bas had an utter meltdown and used aggressive and unpleasant language to another user. He followed that up with a personal attack on me and the other Mods. He had been banned a number of times previously. He has served a 6 month ban, but has not returned. I'll ping him an email. The person who was accused of trolling Bas has also been banned numerous times. He is currently banned for using insulting language to another user and laughing that the current head of state has cancer. I guess ultimately if the same users are repeatedly Reported, wasting the Mods time, then patience becomes strained. Hope that helps...
