To cut a long story short, I think I am done. (Muffled cheers in the background). To be honest, I couldn't even be bothered to go to Orient away. So after 4 years or so, I am stepping back from the Forum. Options 1. If someone wants to take on the Admin role, I would be happy to train them up. It's not a huge amount of work, probably on average an hour or so a week? Please PM me if you are interested. Annual fees are about £45. 2. If no-one steps forward, then I could still help out with Admin and Moderator duties, but I am not going to fund the site moving forward. If anyone is interested in making a contribution to keeping the site going - then please PM me. We hit £45, then on we go for another year. 3. If no-one steps forward, or we can't cover the annual fees... then I guess the site will no longer exist after this season. It would be a shame to see it go. Regards.

Happy to chip in.
Wouldn't want to take on an Admin role though. Going through a decluttering phase, and cutting back on my commitments.
Thanks for your sterling work, sir!

I'm sure there are definitely plenty of us willing to pay the bills. I'm sure there are probably several of us willing to administer the thing if Uncle Eppers really wants to retire or to take a sabbatical. I say the latter, because I think Rovers is something some of us leave behind and then return to. For my species, I am obviously exceedingly migratory, but I reregistered today as I am here for the future of gasheads.org. Edit: also, it's very sad how someone like Eppers feels this way about Rovers. Funding and running the forum, perhaps that's not something any one person would want to do forever, and I'm sure the vast majority are very grateful for Eppers, Jeff, and the moderator team, for persisting so long. But for Rovers to disillusion (let alone to lose) the likes of Eppers, or KP, or any of the others who made the club a large part of their lives, is a bit of a travesty. There's more to life, of course. Our beloved sarcy bustard ' absent' quit full-time Rovers forum debate to prioritise his young family, for example. I know neither him nor Uncle Eppers, but due to Rovers, distance, and care for this site, we have corresponded, and one gets a feel for a person. These are people Rovers ought to inspire and retain. o2o2bo2ba, for example, is another sometimes seeing something at Rovers he doesn't recognise as his Rovers. Rovers should care about this. Anyway, the point I am getting at, is that a lot of gasheads are feeling it less, and I hope Bristol Rovers Independent Fans Forum (as gasheads.org remains) can continue to feel like home for Gasheads of every level of enthusiasm and disillusionment, naïveté and cynicism, sycophancy and disgust. It was always thus. 'absent' is astafjevs, still lurking quietly: Last Online Jan 27, 2024.

The gasheads.org pedigree: The forum under this iteration (gasheads.org) is just about to hit its 10th anniversary so lets hope it lives to see it. (2014-date) - Prior to that it was the "Bristol Rovers Alternative Forum" (ver#2) on the Invision platform. That lasted about a year before migrating to gasheads.org due to too many bugs on the Invision platform (2013-2014)
- Prior to that it was "Bristol Rovers Alternative Forum" (ver#1) on the Invision platform -This was abruptly shut down by the admin at that time hence the #1 and #2 versions on the same platform. From memory #1 lasted about 6 or 7 years before migration to version #2. (c2006-2013)
- Prior to that there was GasMail, not sure of the history/dates of that but I would guess 2000- 2006 Angas may know more about that.
So all in all, the forum in various guises has been around for nearly 25 years, maybe longer. Quite impressive.

Wow, that is interesting. BRAFF before BRIFF, then? I love how forum librarian Angas is always tagged in lieu of our doing our own research. I was still on Geoff Dunford and co's official forum until 2005.

The "Bristol Rovers Alternative Forum" (ver#1) was set up in competition to brfcforum.co.uk due to the latter's complete inability to accept or allow any criticism of the club or its management. It was interesting times and I recall being banned (many times) for questioning the running of the club.

It wasn't a big challenge merely to get banned, Jeff. For real prestige, you'd need to have been threatened with litigation by Geoff. A proud moment in any gashead's life, that.

Can't help with GasMail - I don't remember it at all.
I'm sorry to see epping go. I understand why but I do hope someone is able to take over the admin. gaschat has no appeal for me so it's here or nowhere.

There was something called the GasList (I think). Would have been over 20 years ago. It was more like a message board if my memory serves me correctly. I remember I was logged into it at Bloomberg... there was problem with the server and it was spewing out hundreds of repeat messages, that were then spewing into my inbox. I was told in no uncertain terms never, ever to log into it ever again. So I didn't.

Fair enough epping. As the others have said it will be sad to see you go but completely understand your position. Would be happy to help with the finance like the others.
A big well done to you for keeping it going when we all knew your feelings about how the leadership of the club was over the past few years. You managed to balance all the opinions well and always tempered your own opinions so it didn’t stop the conversation. Well done.
UTG!

I remember an earlier interation of the forum on the rivals platform - each club had their own page within the Rivals umbrella. Pretty sure the initial Fans Forum match was also set up on that website - I played but some s**thead nicked my trainers left in the changing rooms.

I echo the sentiments expressing thanks to Epping, and Jeff before him, for keeping this forum going. Although it may only need about an hour a week to moderate that’s still quite a commitment and responsibility which someone has to take and in return there should at least be the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping increase the enjoyment which a small group of fans get from following Rovers. But the lack of traffic on here and the loss of many prolific posters has probably contributed to the indifference about all things Rovers which Epping and many of us feel. Even so it would still be sad to see this place cease to exist. I’d be willing to increase my posting rate to help stimulate more activity although members are quite at liberty to prevent this by pledging a small donation to the Community Trust
