Matt Taylor on today's defeat:
"I don’t think we started the game well enough with enough intent and intensity, enough sprints in us and paid the price in terms of being one down. We grew into the game as that first half went on and then early in the second half a poor moment from ourselves and then it was 2-0. Like I’ve said leading up to this game and the last game, I don’t want that to be just a reflection of the group of players that are out there because we’re double figures down of senior players and some of those players are important players in important positions. We’re clearly lacking in certain areas."
"Whether we’re switching off or not being quite right in terms of staying engaged in our jobs for long enough. That’s probably happened too often this season. I think we’ve conceded the second-most goals in the league which is a damning statement but in terms of the other aspect we need to create and score more. We talk about not having centre-forwards but we still need to get the ball through the thirds and in around the box and near the opposition goal."
Taylor on the summer ahead:
"I think everyone knows that it’s going to be a very busy summer. I think it was always going to be regardless of whoever was in charge or what the situation was because we’ve got six loans to go back straight away. Obviously there’s eight players out of contract so straight away, even before anything else happens, that’s a big turnaround and in terms of obviously replacements, you need bodies in the building.
"We’re looking forward to getting towards working in relation to that. It’s so strange at this time of year because everything seems to go to sleep for the next three or four weeks, possibly the whole of May. But we want to get as many through the door as early as possible because we know how important pre-season is going to be in terms of bedding them in."

In Matt Taylor we trust; 1) To continue to whine about players being fragile and time to bed in 2) to bring in Exeter or Rotherham rejects along the lines of Brown. 3) be shot Shy 4) not be able to find defenders who can defend 5) strikers who can score 6) not to get us more than mid table mediocrity Have I left anything out? The problems at this football club go far far deeper than MT though, time for the Arab owners to show their mettle

Baffling comments . Weird selections . Atrocious substitutions. Tactically inept.

Glad Matt has an opportunity to finally start the major cultural rebuilding that the football squad needs.
It’s a marathon not a sprint.

I get the feeling MT’s hands are tied somewhat this season, or he is under instruction or influence, he is certainly, so far, not the Manager I thought he was, but he now has time to prove himself, and I hope for the good of us all, that he succeeds.

MT came across well on Having A Gas last night. Efficient, detailed, abit dull but friendly.
We've got to try and get on board with Matt,it will improve Rovers chances.

Agree. He is the total anthesis of JB.When BG went off due to a family issue I knew he was not for us but welcomed him back on here.He was totally awful but let's back MT.He is genuine, not in any way flashy so we need to give him every chance.Do hope he turns us round. Can't be easy for him but if JB wasn't for you and MT isn't for you, please note there is no magic wand and Jurgen Klopp is used to spending millions on one player so is unlikely to be tempted!!!!!!

Taylor admitted in his Having a Gas extended interview that Club will work with a smaller core squad with potential for younger development players being added. He mentioned fitness needs to be improved and more players who can last games consistently without breaking down.
He said Antony Evans and Jed Ward could attract other clubs. But said no early deals to bring in new recruits have been completed as yet.

Well listening to his interview we’ve gone from extracting the potential from a talented group with top 10 but hopefully top 6 wanted to putting a squad together that will survive in this division next season. Let’s see what walks through the door over the next few weeks but his tendency to swing from ecstatic for a clean sheet to an absolute assassination of the squad for losing doesn’t bode at all well.

Evans, Sinclair, Hoole, Rossiter: Matt Taylor lifts lid on Bristol Rovers' contract situations..by Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9263189.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_Untitled-design-19.pngMatt Taylor has discussed the situations regarding each Bristol Rovers player out of contract who has been offered a new deal as well as Antony Evans' future with the Gas' Player of the Season approaching the final 12 months of his current contract. Scott Sinclair, Jordan Rossiter and Luca Hoole have all been offered new deals with their current contracts set to expire this summer while Rovers' retained list also revealed that seven permanently contracted players will be leaving the club, including captain Sam Finley, John Marquis and Josh Grant. As for Evans, everyone associated with the Gas will be keen to see the 25-year-old midfielder stay on at the club, particularly his manager, but if this season's star player indicates that he doesn't plan to extend his current terms then there will be a decision to make on whether Rovers cash in or benefit from his qualities for another campaign before allowing him to depart for free. Taylor conducted a season review on BBC Radio Bristol's Having a Gas and spoke at length about all four players' respective situations, with this the current state of play for each. Antony Evans i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9263145.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_GettyImages-1870877701.jpg What Matt Taylor said: "We’re talking about it now throughout the course of the season. Those discussions and offers have gone out so that’s happened. We’re not naive enough to let a player who’s your best player go into the last year of the deal without even having a conversation. So, as with everything else football-related, I think we’ll learn a lot about each other in the next eight weeks. "We want Antony to be here. I think it’s important to say that he didn’t start the season in the team and that’s not my doing, he worked his way back into the team and has then been consistent and then to get all of those awards, it’s a bit like Chris Martin. Probably our two best and biggest performers didn’t start the season either at the club or in the team which is surreal to say. "Credit to them both for seeing through a difficult moment and then producing and that’s what football is. It’s about producing performances and, whether it’s Chris’ goals or Antony’s goals and assists, they’ve just been consistent in relation to that and we hope that that continues for a long time." Scott Sinclair i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9263149.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_GettyImages-2139218548.jpg What Matt Taylor said: "He’s our fittest player. It probably tells you something about the group but he’s our fittest player, our best trainer. He’s got the best attitude when he doesn’t play. He’s got the best attitude when he does play, alongside Jordan Rossiter. He is everything about our culture, our environment. He wants to play. We want him to play here so we’re hopeful and I’m quietly confident that that will pan out in the way we all hope and expect. "He’s been one of our standout players for the last six weeks, maybe even 12 weeks of the season and I think with another profile of player challenging him and providing competition and supporting him, we’ll see more from Scotty next season as well. "He started here, it would be great if he ended here. Not for anyone else’s sake other than Scotty’s who has had a fantastic career in between but still why can’t he have more successful years with Bristol Rovers?" Luca Hoole i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9263156.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_GettyImages-1908155741.jpg What Matt Taylor said: "He was injured when I first came in. I think it was an ankle injury which I think he got in training. Probably an inconsistent season for Luca. He tried to chase consistency, nailing down a position within that as well. Right-back, right centre-half, right wing-back. Probably the fact that he could cover all of those. "You get to a certain stage as a player where you really need to nail down one position. But also then what his performances have looked like and we always have to speak honesty and me and Luca have spoken honestly. I think there’s more to come from Luca. The contract that was offered several months ago has reflected that. The desire for the club to keep him at the football club and we’ll see how that materialises." Jordan Rossiter i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9260035.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_3591035.jpg What Matt Taylor said: "Not fully behind him [injury issues] because he’s only had the four outings in terms of game time and within that game time, not 90 minute games and no pressured moments because we knew where we were and it was almost a free hit for Jordan. But even within that time, what he did, not just on the pitch but off the pitch in the changing room, just showed exactly what we felt we’d been missing. "I’ve said previously, you don’t play for Rangers and Liverpool if you’re not a good player so that’s never been in question. The big question will be can his body withstand a league season consistently and stay fit throughout that?

Taylor's Rovers finished the season too poorly, but nowhere near as badly as did B*****'s, which won four fewer and lost four more of their first thirty-two games, despite almost half of them being against fourth division opponents.

Thank you for the stats, good work in collecting that information. I see GC is our highest performing manager W% wise. I enjoyed winning away to Ipswich, I understand they are in the Premier league now.

I can't take the credit: I only reproduce most of them. Each manager's total stats are from Wikipedia, which wasn't wholly correct, but has now been corrected in places, I believe by our own Bamber Gashead, who has collated his own stats. The only real 'work' I've done is for JB's first (now) 32 games, checking individual match results for his eighteen games of the season he relegated us, and the first (now) fourteen (including cup games of course) of his season in the basement division. If Taylor can get his Rovers win percentage to 37.2%, then I can stop! Edit: what's more, I don't have John Ward's second stint before DC, because the numbers I've found are for both his stints combined, which arguably should be, but prevents sequential comparison. I thought I fixed this already, but it's my false memory as clearly I haven't. I added IH to MM in order for the list to show all the managers I've seen Rovers under. A little summer research...
