Brighton manager Brian Clough told the kit man to burn the set of yellow shirts loaned to Rovers on the day after the 8 2 defeat on 1 December 1973.
On a frozen pitch the match was one of the few who survived and covered by the television programme the big match.
Rovers were flying at the time and Alan Warboys and Bruce Bannister aka Smash & Grab were on fire the former scored four and Banny 3 with opening goal by Gordon Fearnley.
Warboys went off pitch to have stitches in his head and returned to score the eighth goal.
A young schoolboy Nigel Clough was sat in the dug out for the match.
Fantastic victory for all gasheads who went and still available to watch on YouTube the highlights.
Colin Dobson was magnificent supplying most of the crosses or passes for the goals.
Happy 50th anniversary

I was there with my late brother. Our Sparkes coach was the only one that returned to Bristol with all its windows intact. I don't think the Brighton fans were very happy.

Cloughie told Alan Warboys that he must have split his own eye open as the centre half hadn't been near him all afternoon.

Yep I was there too but my coach window was completely missing for the whole (freezing) trip back to Bristol. Unforgettable day nonetheless. ... and this is me in the yellow jumper, aged a mere 16. Happy days.

Was on a coach with no broken windows. Radio review of the game announced our reserves has won against Ted's six nil.
Happy days.
