Have been fined £120:000 for their fans rather boring behaviour of homophobic chanting at...yep .. Brighton...LTFC's first game back in the Premiership, which they lost 4-1, was marred by the pathetic behaviour of a bunch of idiots......but other than the return game I doubt they will get another chance to return to the South Coast club for a while as they will be relegated....

Luton Town: FA fines Hatters and issues action plan after homophobic chanting at Brighton..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/AA6E/production/_131803634_gettyimages-1609609026.jpg Brighton's Amex Stadium has a capacity of 30,666 and opened in July 2011Luton have been fined £120,000 by the Football Association for their fans' homophobic chants at Brighton. The FA issued the Hatters, who accepted a charge of misconduct in relation to crowd control, with a two-year action plan to improve fan behaviour. Luton, promoted to the top flight for the first time in 31 years in May, said any fans identified over the chants will be banned by the club. Luton lost the match at Brighton 4-1 on 12th August. It was their first Premier League match following promotion. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/353E/production/_131803631_gettyimages-1776376795.jpg"Luton admitted that they failed to ensure their spectators and/or supporters conduct themselves in an orderly fashion," an FA statement said. An independent commission deemed Luton fans had behaved "in a way which is improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting with either express or implied reference to sexual orientation". Luton said they are "an inclusive, family-oriented club" which "abhors abusive chanting such as this and has a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination of all kinds". "Those involved were committing a criminal offence and anyone subsequently identified will be issued with a club ban and face potential police investigation," Luton said in a statement. "Luton Town has worked with supporters in recent seasons to help form the Rainbow Hatters supporters' group for members of the LGBTQ+ community, who meet regularly to share their experiences of watching the Hatters. "We will work further with supporter groups to educate and inform on all forms of discriminatory acts to ensure that watching Luton Town is a safe and welcoming experience for everyone." Luton sit 17th in the Premier League with six points from their opening 12 games, winning once, and they return to action on Saturday against Crystal Palace at Kenilworth Road.

Tom Lockyer: Luton captain still in hospital after cardiac arrest..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/175DB/production/_132070759_luton.jpg The game was suspended in the 65th minute with the score at 1-1Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer is still in hospital and undergoing "tests and scans" after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch during Saturday's Premier League match at Bournemouth. Luton said Lockyer "is awaiting the results before the next steps for his recovery are determined". Both sets of players were taken off midway through the second half as Lockyer received medical treatment. The game at the Vitality Stadium was eventually abandoned. The 29-year-old was responsive as he was carried off on a stretcher to applause and taken to hospital. On Saturday, Luton said Lockyer was "stable and currently undergoing further tests". A day later the club provided an update, saying, "We understand that supporters are concerned for him and that there is widespread media interest in his condition," before adding that updates on the player "will be released via the club's official channels when the time is right". "We all want the very best for Tom, his partner Taylor and the whole Lockyer family, and politely ask that his and their privacy is respected at this difficult time." Following confirmation the game was abandoned on Saturday, both the Luton and Bournemouth players came back out on to the pitch to applaud the supporters, with Hatters manager Rob Edwards visibly emotional. Lockyer collapsed during the play-off final win against Coventry in May and was taken to hospital. He subsequently had heart surgery and was given the all-clear to return to playing in June. The Premier League said in a statement: "The match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident. "Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer and all players involved in today's match." Luton called for players, staff and supporters "to come together" in support of Lockyer and his family. "We are sorry to all supporters present that players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue with the game after seeing their much-loved team-mate and friend taken off like that and staff could not carry on with managing the game in such circumstances," Luton said. "We thank everyone for the wonderful applause and singing of Locks' [Lockyer's] name inside the stadium at such a difficult time." Bournemouth responded to Luton's update on Lockyer's condition, saying: "We're relieved to hear Tom is responsive." The club added: "Our thoughts will continue to be with Tom and his family at this time. We'd like to thank all the medical staff for their quick action as well as everyone inside the stadium for their support and unity during a difficult moment." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15A16/production/_129889588_shirt_rex.jpg

Tom Lockyer: Important to keep improving heart screenings, says former cricketer James Taylor..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/64BB/production/_132078752_gettyimages-1860171865.jpgIt is important to continue improving heart screenings in sport in the wake of Tom Lockyer's on-pitch cardiac arrest, says James Taylor, whose cricket career was cut short because of a heart condition. Luton captain Lockyer is in hospital after collapsing during Saturday's Premier League game with Bournemouth. Taylor was forced to retire from cricket in 2016 at the age of 26. "Screening processes do a fantastic job but we can always be better," he said. Speaking to 5 Live Breakfast, the former England batter added: "It is a really sad case and thankfully Tom has got great care where he is now. "Screening protocols in whatever sport clearly need to be worked on and improved always." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/12/18/b45de574-acb6-48e2-96e6-c62aa9d7def2.jpgJames Taylor
Lockyer collapsed during the second half at the Vitality Stadium and both sets of players were taken off the pitch while he received treatment. The game was eventually abandoned. In a statement on Sunday, Luton said Lockyer was still in hospital undergoing "tests and scans" and "is awaiting the results before the next steps for his recovery are determined". The defender also collapsed during Luton's play-off final win against Coventry in May and was taken to hospital. He subsequently had heart surgery and was given the all-clear to return to playing in June, with Lockyer saying at the time that his heart had been "checked and double checked", and that all the scans and tests had "come back positive". Professor Aneil Malhotra, a cardiologist who works with several Premier League teams, says the 29-year-old will have been subjected to stringent tests before being allowed to play again. "Our understanding of conditions affecting the heart has evolved and an athlete-centred approach has been adopted, where one can reduce potential harm while supporting the player to follow their aspirations," he told 5 Live Breakfast. "He will have been appropriately risk-assessed prior to returning to play and would have been under close surveillance as a result of that."

Gary Sweet salutes ‘heroes’ who saved Tom Lockyer’s life after cardiac arrest..by Reuben Rosso-Powell.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13C04/production/_110200908_garysweetlutonrexc.jpgLuton chief executive Gary Sweet lauded the “heroic” medical staff who saved Tom Lockyer’s life following his cardiac arrest. Lockyer’s heart stopped during Luton’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last week. The Hatters skipper is recovering after being discharged from hospital where he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. And Luton CEO Sweet applauded those who resuscitated Lockyer within two minutes of him collapsing. “It took two minutes from the point of going down to be resuscitated,” Sweet said. “It’s impressive, the actions of those protocols which ultimately saved him. “They are all heroes, the Luton medical team, the Bournemouth medical team, the doctors and the paramedics were all exemplary. We cannot thank them enough. “Absolutely (there is more to life than football). Immediately when it happened we did not care about the game, it was not on our minds. It was all about his recovery.” Lockyer has started a period of recovery and is expected not to feature for Luton in the coming weeks and months and Sweet admitted the issue has been challenging to deal with and has been a learning experience for the club. He added: “We’ve never done this before. It’s all learning for us. It’s thrown so many challenges our way and it’s been one very big challenge this week. This has all been about team spirit and gathering around Tom. It's impressive. The actions of those protocols which ultimately saved him. Gary Sweet “The fact he was being taken home by people we know and was in safe hands gave us a sense of relief.” The match between Luton and Bournemouth was abandoned following Lockyer’s collapse but Hatters full-back Alfie Doughty will still have a yellow card on his record after being cautioned on the day. Rob Edwards questioned that decision ahead of Luton’s meeting with Newcastle. He said: “For some reason, Doughty’s booking still counts. “It’s like the game didn’t happen, but Alfie’s booking still counts. It’s a strange one. It will be nice if I can get an answer on it or if it can get changed.”

BOXING DAY TUESDAY 26th DECEMBER 2023 - PREMIER LEAGUE
Sheffield United 2 Luton Town 3
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A504/production/_132144224_1de03f7fe870e165ba379ed07fa6b2fac1ab3773.jpg Luton Town came back to win a Premier League match after being behind for the very first timeChris Wilder says his Sheffield United players "chucked it away" and must improve their mentality if they are to climb out of trouble after losing to Luton in an extraordinary game. The Blades fought back from 1-0 behind to lead 2-1 only for the Hatters to secure victory after two own goals in the space of four minutes. A 14th Premier League defeat leaves Wilder's side stuck at the bottom of the table seven points from safety before a trip to Manchester City on Saturday. "We really should be talking about a home win. We really should be talking about us getting a third win [in the league], not throwing it away," added Wilder. "There has been a lot of positivity lately but this is a backwards step that hurts." Asked if his players were feeling sorry for themselves, Wilder said: "I don't give a monkey's how they feel. They are professional footballers. "Everyone has to be accountable. These boys have got to have that attitude of being strong mentally." A howler by Wes Foderingham gifted Luton the lead when Alfie Doughty's 17th-minute attempt slipped through the keeper's legs into the net. The Blades thought they had turned it around after the interval, Oli McBurnie equalising after Sam Allison - the first black referee to take charge of an English top-flight match for 15 years - played a smart advantage when James McAtee appeared to have been fouled. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/46E0/production/_132144181_reuters.pngAfter the trauma of captain Tom Lockyer having cardiac arrest on the pitch at Bournemouth, Luton have shown incredible spirit to secure six points from their past two games which could be crucial to securing their Premier League future. "I don't know," said boss Rob Edwards when asked if what happened to Lockyer had brought his squad even closer together. "I get we have won two games in a row but we have been playing well for some time now. "That said we do want to embody what Tom is. He has been such a success in football because of his bravery." Luton looked down and out after falling 2-1 behind but somehow emerged with a win from a remarkable encounter. Carlton Morris came off the bench and orchestrated the turnaround, with first Robinson and then Ben Slimane putting through their own net to leave the Blades bereft.

Here are some of the top comments:
Luton fans
Harish: Absolutely delighted with this win after coming from behind, well deserved. In previous matches, Lady Luck was not with us, but she was definitely with us today. Come on you Hatters! Stephen: Never say “die”. Leave it all on the pitch. Want-to-win mentality. These are essential ingredients in Rob’s magic. Luton are now “getting” Premier League football but the season is long, hard, remorseless and without compassion. Go again against Chelsea in four days. Come On You Hatters! Alexander: I can’t believe we’ve won that. Absolute class and resilience from every man in a Luton shirt. Barkley with a deserved man-of-the-match performance as well. We can consider ourselves lucky with the two own goals but we didn’t put our heads down and kept the pressure up after going down. Chelsea, we’re coming for you. Unlucky Sheffield. Sue: The last two wins were always on the cards as our performances just get better every game. Last week was for Tom Lockyer - now we're winning because we are really good. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9d/Luton_Town_logo.svg/180px-Luton_Town_logo.svg.png

Andros Townsend: Luton Town winger signs new long-term contract..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/92DF/production/_132199573_54b11653cb8c2a4dfa8a8aa06f0f3ed22e59aa1b.jpg Andros Townsend celebrated scoring against Newcastle in December by holding up a shirt to support Luton captain Tom Lockyer.Luton Town winger Andros Townsend has signed a long-term contract with the Premier League club. Townsend, 32, moved to Kenilworth Road in October on a short-term deal until January after his departure from Everton. He has featured 11 times in the Premier League since joining, scoring one goal and making two assists. "Obviously I'm delighted - three months ago I thought my career was over," said Townsend. Luton said the new contract will keep him at the club for the "foreseeable future". Townsend had not played a competitive match since March 2022 while still at Goodison Park. He added: "From going begging around the world just for a trial to being offered a longer contract is a dream come true. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/3891/production/_131718441_gettyimages-1777047372.jpg"It's a special, special football club. I think we can really achieve something special this season. It's only halfway done. We've got six months - 19 games - to pull off the unthinkable." Manager Rob Edwards said Townsend had shown "real humility and professionalism" during his time with the squad. "He's shown the whole group what it means to be elite and a top-end pro," Edwards added. Luton, who were beaten 3-2 at home by Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, are 18th in the table, one point off Townsend's former club Everton. The Hatters host Championship side Bolton in the FA Cup third round on Sunday at 14:00 GMT.

SATURDAY 27th JANUARY 2024 - THE FA CUP - FOURTH ROUND
Everton 1 (Harrison 55) Luton Town 2 (Mykolenko 39 og, Woodrow 90+6)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ec8e/live/a8be6c20-b953-11ee-896d-39d9bd3cadbb.png
Report By Bobbie Jackson, BBC Sport.Luton manager Rob Edwards says substitute Cauley Woodrow will be "happy" but "in a bit of pain" after he suffered a suspected broken hand before providing the match-winner in the FA Cup fourth round at Everton. Woodrow used his coat as a makeshift sling when carrying out his post-match interview after netting in the 96th minute to help Luton avoid a replay with the Toffees. "James Tarkowski fell on me accidentally, I felt it crack so I was in a bit of shock for a while," Woodrow told BBC Sport. The 29-year-old's dramatic winner was in contrast to the rest of the game, which felt underwhelming for large parts with both sides lacking a clinical edge. Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko put through his own net late to give Luton a half-time lead, unable to get out of the way as Alfie Doughty's delivery from a corner arrived at the near post. Everton, who were booed off the field by sections of their fans at half-time, profited from a goalkeeping howler to get back on level terms early in the second half when Tim Krul allowed Jack Harrison's low driven shot from outside the area to squirm under his body. Despite getting back in the tie, Everton were unable to shift the momentum in their favour as Luton carved out the better opportunities, with Elijah Adebayo forcing a fine save out of goalkeeper Joao Virginia and Carlton Morris seeing a shot cleared off the line by Nathan Patterson. With the minutes ticking on and Premier League relegation rivals Everton and Luton both keen to avoid a replay, spaces started to appear with greater regularity but, as was the story of the first half, both sides were wasteful. That was until Woodrow volleyed in from close range after a goalmouth scramble when Everton failed to clear their lines from a corner. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/b043/live/857bb7c0-bd38-11ee-a14f-d13767c34318.jpgLuton's reward is a challenging home 5th round tie v Manchester City... Everton 1-2 Luton: What Rob Edwards said:Luton Town manager Rob Edwards speaking to BBC Sport after the FA Cup win: "We believe we can go anywhere and win. We were confident coming in to the game. We were a little bit sloppy at times, but there is total belief there." On Luton's set-piece quality: "The lads really value them and we do really work on them. Twice we have scored from set-pieces here and won the game. We created more chances from open play and probably should've scored others." On Cauley Woodrow scoring the winner with a broken hand: "I'm really pleased for Cauley. He hasn't been able to get too much game time and get a rhythm. He is a real gem of a lad and he will be a happy man tonight, although he will be in a bit of pain." On reaching the FA Cup fifth round: "I didn't enjoy many cup runs as a player. We will enjoy this, it does mean a lot and it is important that we enjoy these moments. Hopefully it can give us a feel-good factor going into next week. "I'm excited to see who we get in fifth round. We have been picking up results and we want that to continue. We are really pleased."

It's really nice to be back in the building - LockyerOn his training ground visit, Luton captain Tom Lockyer added: "I've really enjoyed coming in and seeing all the lads. I haven't seen them since what happened, so it's really nice to see them all and be back in the building. "It makes you miss it. Being away, you almost get a bit disconnected from the football world because it is unique and different than anything else you do. "Being so active for all my life, not just football but everything else in general, to then be told you can't really do anything has been quite difficult." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/471/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/30/666276f3-b4cf-44da-97c8-626ad758eb9c.jpgThe 29-year-old defender visited team-mates and staff at the Hatters' Brache HQ on Monday. He spent five days in hospital and had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device fitted following his on-pitch collapse during a game at Bournemouth on 16th December. "He's an unbelievably brave man," said Luton manager Rob Edwards. "It was amazing to see him back. We had a really good morning seeing him around the place. "We handed out the debut Premier League balls with [former managers] John Still and Mick Harford. It was a nice presentation; it was a special moment and great to see. "I managed to hold it together but it was emotional. It's been a really difficult time for his family first and foremost, but for us it was great to see him."

TUESDAY 30th JANUARY 2024 - PREMIER LEAGUE
Luton Town 4 (Adebayo 1, 42, 56, Ogbene 3) Brighton & Hove Albion 0
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1208E/production/_132507837_gettyimages-1973390816.jpg Elijah Adebayo is Luton's top scorer with eight Premier League goals this seasonLuton scored twice inside the opening three minutes and Elijah Adebayo claimed a hat-trick in a remarkable victory over Brighton which lifted the Hatters out of the Premier League relegation zone. Adebayo nodded the home side in front when he beat Seagulls goalkeeper Jason Steele to Carlton Morris' knockdown with just 18 seconds on the clock. And the hosts doubled their lead less than two minutes later, Chiedozie Ogbene beating the Brighton offside trap and knocking the ball past the onrushing Steele. Adebayo struck his second and Luton's third of the game late in the first half after running on to Ross Barkley's pass, and Jordan Clark thought he had made it 4-0 early in the second but was denied by an offside flag. But Brighton's reprieve was only temporary as former Walsall striker Adebayo nodded home Alfie Doughty's corner to become the first Luton player to score a top-flight hat-trick since Lars Elstrup against Norwich in September 1990, and the first at Kenilworth Road since Mark Stein against Oxford in February 1988. Steele denied Morris late on with a smart save at his near post, but it did little to spare Brighton's blushes on a desperate evening for Roberto de Zerbi and his players. The result lifts Luton above Everton and out of the bottom three, while Brighton drop to eighth. "I feel - we feel - the best way for us to go in this league is to attack," Hatters manager Rob Edwards told BBC Match of the Day. "We've done that to quite a few teams - it's how we play. "With a result and performance like this, a few people might take notice of it a little bit more. We're going to keep driving the players. "We have to keep our foot down. We can't afford to stop because we're not good enough to do that." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/30/5fbfb202-2257-4f8b-816f-2566e6ab7ce8.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/1/30/e109a71c-6854-41bc-beff-7251b0b50953.png

We asked you for your thoughts on Saturday's Premier League 4-4 match between Newcastle and Luton.
Here are some of your comments:
Luton fans
Harish: What a pulsating match. Such a shame Luton couldn’t hold the lead but just shows how much this team has evolved. They’ve got better and better each match. That’s eight goals in two matches against top top oppositions. On this evidence I’m confident that we will stay up. Come on you Hatters!! Gary: What spirit and determination. Taking a leaf out of Ben Stokes’ Test team mentality. COYH. Top six on the cards! Malcolm: Another good result for the Town. It could easily have been a win but the two-goal advantage was lost. Again the poor performer was Sambi Lokonga. He just looks lost running around telling his team-mates who to mark while he marks nobody. As the highest paid player he should be trying his heart out but all to often is missing in action. Drop him.

Analysis: Newcastle 4-4 Luton..by Neil Johnston, BBC Sportichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/84f8/live/6cbf5a50-c2d0-11ee-b54e-99b2414ad794.pngLuton are fast becoming the great entertainers of the Premier League. They followed up their 4-0 win over Brighton in midweek by scoring another four at Newcastle only this time they had to settle for a point after an extraordinary match. The Hatters might have let slip a 4-2 lead but they are continue to win new admirers as they battle to stay up. Rob Edwards' side are playing with a freedom and a spirit that has seen them grow in confidence in the past few games. They have taken 11 points from the past six games to climb out of the relegation zone and give themselves a fighting chance of staying up. "I had Luton to go down at the start of the season when we were asked to give our predictions. I'm not so sure now," Martin Keown, a three-time Premier League winner with Arsenal, told the BBC's Final Score.

Newcastle 4-4 Luton: What Rob Edwards said:ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2c84/live/e400c230-c130-11ee-8685-316409d66f25.jpgLuton Town manager Rob Edwards after their 4-4 draw with Newcastle: "It is very mixed. I am very proud and pleased with the performance. We were brave. They came back quickly and the way we stayed composed and didn't go under [was pleasing]. That could have happened in this cauldron of an atmosphere. We even had a chance to win it at the end. It was an even game, and a great game." On Luton's style of play: "I have said to the players, this is the best way for us to get results. The players have really bought in. We have been this way before, but it suits who we are and what we are. It suits the whole football club to be honest. It gives us more threat and upsets the flow of the opposition." On conceding four goals: "I think when you look at their goals there were some things we could have done. You just need to see certain moments out. Some of the actions for their goals we could have done better at. They will be doing the same as well. There are always areas to improve. We are human beings and we make mistakes and we will always make mistakes." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/3bc3/live/5bd42740-c2ba-11ee-ace0-c35c1b4f6d82.jpg
