Broken...you are unambitious and clearly accept mediocrity..think outside your box Hope for the best but expect the worse...that's why we linger in the lower divisions I want championship footie Harsh - Now where’s the dislike button….. Ignore him Toteend3. Disrespectful and dull, unfortunately not every one on here is like that despite what your friend George says.

Harsh - Now where’s the dislike button….. It was a great send off. I don't hardly post on this forum as I think its full of people that clearly have vendettas against most things to do with Rovers. One of them is answering your question above. Think I'll stick to " Gas Chat " where not all but most of the posters are at least civilised. Hi George, I don't think it's that people have vendettas against most things Rovers; in fact most want the very best for the club and hence a lot of frustration that until recently we have been no further on from where we have historically been. This club has so much potential and yet we have only had brief periods in the equivalent of the Championship. There are people who have seen the Gas at that level and very much want to do so again. Don't believe all that is written about people hating the Gas! Regards Cheshire

Over the years I have had several skirmishes with fellow members inc Shoveler, Kingswood Polak, Oldie, Swissgas to name a few. They have always been conducted in respectful and dignified manner and always ended amicably and with me being right of course! Sure we all want to be back in Division Two / Championship, but having the misfortune to support a club who, over decades have been perpetual underachievers. There is however genuine optimism that things could be about to change. I don’t recall any ‘previous’ with ‘Harry The Bast##d’ a fellow member, who is generally well regarded as a regular and informative contributor to the Forum. So the negative rhetoric as highlighted above is unwarranted and I hope this will be acknowledged so we can move on. UTG

I don't see any need to censor the fifth and sixth letters of 'b'stard'. If the full version was good enough for Shakespeare (vide King John - 1st folio 1623) it should be good enough for Bristol Rovers fans as well as wide swathes of monastics in the Wiltshire Levels. Thomas Bowdler (1807) and all his successors are silly old tits.

Neither do I see the need to bowdlerize my own word - b'stard - which is a legitimate noun of the English language.

UTG Your mind is playing tricks because I can distinctly remember you being wrong in 2017. It's so easy to deride those who want something better as negative or pursuing vendettas as Cheshire has explained in his post above. I'm still in touch with a few old Tote Enders from Eastville days as well as some (growl) old East Enders and and I'm afraid to say the consensus from fans who have endured Bristol football for sixty years or more is that Gasheads get the club we deserve. The problem is that we don't really know what we want and we just bend with the wind in whichever direction those in charge tell us it's blowing at any particular time. Right now we have two glaring examples of this. Four years ago we were told Coughlan style football was not the Rovers way and that's why we switched to Garnerball and then Joeyball. Anyone who rocked the boat by saying that winning games should take priority and pointed to our successes under Megson and Francis was shouted down. An incredible theory came about that it was better to play Championship style football in League 1 because then we wouldn't have to change anything when we got promoted. But when a poor old soul like myself pointed out that most of the players were either veterans or on loan so wouldn't be here in the Championship anyway the response was silence. And now the wind is changing direction again and we have discovered that actually a more direct style of football really is the Rovers way. So we are in the process of persuading ourselves that Manganball and continuity is the future and soon we shall be convinced that this has nothing to do with cost considerations. Fourteen years ago we were told that increasing revenue streams by making use of a stadium for seven days a week was the only way forward for Rovers. The main debating point was whether this could be achieved on the site of the Mem or whether we needed a new site because in accepting the "revenue stream" principle Gasheads were , as Mrs Slocombe would say, " unanimous". But now our thinking has changed and the principles of new revenue streams and seven day use of the stadium have been completely forgotten about. We have persuaded ourselves that all we need to do is increase capacity with prefabricated grandstands plonked around the ground and success will follow. Until we decide what we really want, and strive to achieve that, then all we'll get is mediocrity.

There are plenty of legitimate nouns that would fall foul of the profanity blocker, and rightly so. However I don't think anyone on here would use that term to abuse someone else. How about b'stard (as in Alan)?

Some longstanding fans like myself have for decades now under achieved and at times been an embarrassing experience I'm getting on in age and saw Rovers in championship just want my grandkids to experience it too before I pass on.

I was.trying to work out whether you are a b'stard or a **** and you are right it is not much to ask for. I also would like to take my grandsons to watch Rovers play in the Second tier and in a ground that resempjes a football stadium and not a ‘pikey’ holiday camp. So the question to you Harry the b'stard is are you more confident now that your very reasonable aspiration will come to fruition in the next couple of years UTG Not happy being called a derogatory name if honest I have a sensitive nature The signing of Jch will convince me championship footie is possible without that it will be extremely difficult The stadium plans are exciting and the departure of Jb is positive
