Cracking win against Somerset the other day, at their place as well. Yes, a great win, Tom Banton carried his bat for 77 and he along with Ben Green putting on 88 with a ball left. Then every batter bar Bancroft chipped in with good contributions and winning with just a ball spare..... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/e-219212

Gloucestershire have done really well. They beat Somerset on both T20 occasions when Somerset had them reeling in the Bristol match and we should have won. And in the Taunton match a great last over saw them home when again we should have won. But we didn’t. But Gloucestershire never consolidated on those matches. I don’t know why but almost as if it was enough to beat us. We lost but have come back to easily beat Surrey and Thrash Hampshire and will now qualify for the quarter finals. Sometimes the manner of how you win or how you lose is important. We lost both matches but played well and should have won. Gloucestershire won because of Charlesworth and Price on both occasions. Quite unusual to win both by 5 wickets with the same two batsmen saving them on both occasions. The rest of the team need to step up. But but shows how Gloucestershire does have players, or at least two, who can win under pressure.

As a Somerset fan you get used to getting beaten. It’s never a problem. But from watching live cricket for at least 40 days each Summer both formats and Somerset for the past 50 years and keeping an interested eye on my second county, Gloucestershire I think I’ve an objective view when it comes to cricket. I hope it came over that Gloucestershire did well but that for 85% of both of those T20 games Somerset were winning and only at the end when Charlesworth and Price played very well did Gloucestershire look as if they could win. Which they did. Well done to them. But to then lose to Kent (bottom), Middlesex (next to bottom) and Hampshire was woeful. If you are looking to step up. It just comes across as ‘we’ve beaten Somerset twice, we’re very good…’ Somerset did the opposite and that’s why we will have a chance at retaining our title. But no Nobby, no worries. I can accept defeat and certainly no sour grapes here. 👍👍👍

The teams we support in the cricket arena is just like in the football, many up's and down's, but hey, that's the enjoyment of it all...

You’re right bt, both sports full of ups and downs but I’ve found that football is probably more intense and far more tribal. I can be sat at Taunton chatting to other spectators who are having a few days holiday watching their county play cricket and it’s very civil and polite and the conversation can run the spectrum of many topics and they will come back the next day for a good days conversation. As an overall experience it’s probably more enjoyable than football, certainly more comfortable.
But nothing can compare with the days out at Southend, Blackpool or The Mem or Wembley on those very special occasions. (Except of course the day Somerset CCC clinch the County Championship!)

A bit like saying, X was winning the marathon for the first 26 miles 384 yards, and Y only overtook him in the last yard? Very good alf. Completely different but I take your point. Perhaps runner Y was just waiting to do his normal strong finish and had paced his time perfectly. In those two cricket matches Gloucestershire looked beaten until Charlesworth and Price stepped up. Well done to them but I don’t think Gloucestershire lost their first 5 wickets as part of a master plan. 😉 In the end though it doesn’t matter, Gloucestershire win and we look like two middle aged men arguing about sod all!! 👍👍👍

Sunday 28th July 2024 - Metro Bank One Day Cup, Group B - Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol - Gloucestershire won the toss and decided to field
Essex - 262-8 (50 overs) Benkenstein 67, Das 52, Khushi 31, Westley 23, Goodman 4-43
Gloucestershire - 199 all out (36.2 overs) Singh Dale 63, Smith 29 not out, Snater 3-39
Essex win by 63 runs
Shane Snater played an incisive role as Essex defeated Gloucestershire by 63 runs in a one-sided Metro Bank One Day Cup contest at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol.
Called into the side after missing the competition opener against Warwickshire four days earlier, the 28-year-old seamer took three wickets in 13 deliveries in a devastating new-ball burst that fundamentally undermined Gloucestershire's top order.
Chasing a victory target of 263, the home side lost wickets with indecent haste thereafter, five top or middle-order batsmen falling in single figures as last season's beaten semi-finalists were dismissed for 199 in 36.2 overs, Snater claiming 3 for 39 and Jamal Richards 2 for 33.

Wednesday 7th August 2024 - Metro Bank One Day Cup, Group B - Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol - Gloucestershire won the toss and decided to field
Sussex Innings - 132-9 (41 overs) Ibrahim 30, Lion-Cachet 27, Lenham 25, Singh Dale 4-15
Gloucestershire Innings - 133-2 (20 overs) Bancroft 49 not out, Hammond 46, Hunt 2-32
Gloucestershire win by 8 wickets (DLS Method)
Report by Ged Scott, BBC Sport England.
In the day's one Group B game, it was over quickly at Bristol as winless Sussex suffered their latest defeat to make it six losses in six games.
Gloucestershire won by eight wickets for a third victory out of six to move into a scrum of four sides on six points - four behind the two runaway leaders Glamorgan and Warwickshire, who meet at Edgbaston on Friday.
Ajeet Singh-Dale (4-15) and Zaman Akhtar (3-25) did the chief damage as, in a match limited to 41 overs a side, Sussex were restricted to just 132-9.
Singh-Dale and fellow seamer Akhter both returned their best figures in List A cricket.
Cameron Bancroft then hit an unbetaen 49 and was aided by 46 from Miles Hammond in an opening stand of 73, as the hosts reached 133-2 in 20 overs.

Friday 9th August 2024 - Metro Bank One Day Cup, Group B - Trent Bridge, Nottingham - Gloucestershire won the toss and decided to field
Nottinghamshire Innings - 332 all out (49.3 overs) Hameed 105, James 61, Moores 40, van Buuren 3-40
Gloucestershire Innings - 333-3 (46.4 overs) Hammond 157, Price 61 not out, Bancroft 52, McCann 1-48
Gloucestershire win by 7 wicketsThe star of the day was Gloucestershire's Miles Hammond in Group B with an excellent match-winning century. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8f/2_78_Miles_Hammond.jpg/220px-2_78_Miles_Hammond.jpgWith only one game left, Gloucestershire cannot catch runaway top two Glamorgan and Warwickshire, but victory lifted them into third place above holders Leicestershire, who have a game in hand at home to Glamorgan on Sunday. Hammond's superb limited-over best score of 157 was the key to victory as Gloucestershire beat Notts by seven wickets in a game of 665 runs at Trent Bridge. Home skipper Haseeb Hameed hit 105, his second century of this year’s competition, backed by Lyndon James (61) and Tom Moores (40) as the hosts were bowled out for 332 in the final ball of the last over. Gloucestershire's reply was built on a 151-run opening stand between Hammond, who hit 22 fours and five sixes, and Australian Cameron Bancroft (52) before Ollie Price hit an unbeaten 61 as Notts reached 333-3 to win with 20 balls to spare. Gloucestershire do not play again until Wednesday when they host Leicestershire, but Notts are back in home action on Sunday, when they take on Essex knowing that they have to win both their final two games to stand even a chance of making the third knockout place. But they will be forced to make changes after England Lions call-ups for Price, Zaman Akhter and Ajeet Singh-Dale to face Sri Lanka at Worcester on Wednesday, which would also rule them out of the final group game and the quarter-final, if they qualify.

Wonderful innings by Hammond. Worthy of a performance by another Hammond who once played for us.

Gloucestershire sign Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/976/cpsprodpb/8dd1/live/6eec7c20-5981-11ef-a905-1d09b5151059.jpg.webpGloucestershire have announced the signing of Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher on a short-term deal. Campher, 25, joins for the final group match in the One-Day Cup against Leicestershire on Wednesday. Johannesburg-born Campher became the first man to take a hat-trick for Ireland in T20 cricket against the Netherlands at the 2021 men's World Cup. Known as a white-ball specialist, Campher made his T20 debut for Ireland at 22 and has already played in three T20 World Cups. Should Gloucestershire progress to the knock-out stages of the 50-over format, he will also be available to play in both the quarter-final and any potential semi-final. This is Campher's second stint playing in the One-Day Cup after featuring in five matches for Somerset last season.
