Former Met Police officers admit sending racist WhatsApps..
Five former Met Police officers have admitted sending racist messages on WhatsApp, following a BBC Newsnight investigation.
The officers pleaded guilty to sending grossly offensive racist messages, including about the Duchess of Sussex, at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
The officers retired from the force between 2001 to 2015.
They served in various parts of the Met but all spent time in the former Diplomatic Protection Group.
The ex-officers are:
Peter Booth, 66, of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, who pleaded guilty to four counts of sending by public communication grossly offensive racist messages. He retired from the Met in April 2001.
Robert Lewis, 62, of Camberley, Surrey. He admitted eight counts of the same offence. He retired from the Met in May 2015 and became a Home Office official before he was dismissed for gross misconduct last November, according to the government department.
Anthony Elsom, 67, of Bournemouth, Dorset, who pleaded guilty to three counts. He retired from the Met in May 2012.
Alan Hall, 65, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, also entered guilty pleas to three counts. He retired from the Met in June 2015.
Trevor Lewton, 65, of Swansea, South Wales, pleaded guilty to one count. He retired from the Met in August 2009.
This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.

Look at the ages, and why am I not surprised? I am of a similar age, but since standing outside South Africa House in the 70s to protest against apartheid, I have never understood how you can hate someone because of their colour/sex/gender/beliefs or none etc.
We are 50 years on and absolutely nothing has changed. This country was, for a while, heading towards a tolerant environment. But people like the Tory MP, Lee 30p Anderson, sound like 21st Century versions of the 70s National Front thugs we saw at Eastville...... And it breaks my heart!

"The officers retired from the force between 2001 to 2015." - So, the last one retired eight years ago and at least one retired 22 years ago! Is this 'current' at all?

Just like my good friend Les above said "just the ones that got caught", Racism is everywhere in society and will never go away...
Gene Hunt may be a fictional character from the past, but i have known many just like him as workmates or the bosses in charge.
With the passing of time i have seen the old days and the modern days of change, attitudes/woke...are things slowly changing for the good ?

Sheffield United and Tottenham have condemned the racist and abusive messages Blades keeper Wes Foderingham received after their game on Saturday. Foderingham was in goal for Sheffield United as they took a 1-0 lead at Spurs before conceding two goals in stoppage time to suffer a 2-1 defeat. "I don't mind opposition fans calling me every name under the sun," wrote Foderingham on social media. "But be easy with the racism and family threats. Think before you type." Sheffield United issued a statement saying they "condemn the racist, abusive and threatening messages" sent to Foderingham. The Bramall Lane club added: "The club will now work with relevant bodies to investigate and support Wes. "There is no room for racism in our game." "We are disgusted to hear of racist, abusive and threatening messages sent to Wes Foderingham following yesterday's match," Spurs said in a statement. "The club stands firmly against all forms of discrimination and will co-operate fully with Sheffield United and the relevant bodies in their investigations. "We shall not hesitate in taking the strongest possible action, including club bans, against any so-called fan found responsible." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/FA79/production/_131112146_gettyimages-1669702078.jpg

Abuse of players, officials and rival fans all seems 'normal' and the gurning and threats at rival supporters through the fences, you can be sure that this is not how they behave away from a football match,it is very strange.

That is why this thread was started, you have a choice to view it or not, racism is ugly, vile and has to be stamped out...

Defining racism will be the next argument, one that has been raging for decades. Some will deny their views are racist even when their critique of a fellow human being is predicated upon either their skin colour (base) or culture.

I came across an article about Operation Dudula in South Africa,I hadnt heard of them before but there are articles and videos about them, first I thought I can understand their point of view but later I thought if anyone did that here we would say that was racist behavior.
South Africa sounds a real basket case of a country/society, a bloke from Operation Dudula saying that they were better off under apartheid because there were laws and they were enforced, rampant drug abuse and crime and unemployment, ordinary people have a poor existence there.

I love the quote by Trymer, "ordinary people have a poor existence there" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. The ignorance of some is just incredible.

But, where I would disagree with you, it's hard to spoil a vile, racist and violently oppressive society with Xenophobic or vigilantly behaviour. The seeds were sown by British and Dutch imperialism and it's the indigenous populations that paid and do pay the price.

Carlisle United: Man arrested after alleged racial abuse of referee..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2E9B/production/_130613911_gettyimages-1384542924.jpgA man has been arrested over an allegation of racist abuse against a football referee at a game in Cumbria. Police said the assistant referee was allegedly abused during Carlisle United's match against Oxford United at Brunton Park, Carlisle, on Saturday. A 38-year-old man, from Cumbria, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. Carlisle United said it "deplores this abhorrent behaviour and condemns it in the strongest possible terms". The club said the alleged abuse happened during the final 10 minutes of the match, in the home section of the Andrew Jenkins Stand. A spokesperson for Carlisle United said the club would continue to assist Cumbria Police with its investigation.

In other news. Mrs Jones's cat was rescued from a tree in lower Kidlington, Gloucestershire.
In a quite shocking revelation a local news reporter suggested that nobody was actually interested.
