Right so thinking that the teams poor performance needs to be sorted out makes me a ****head does it? If I was a 'ted then why would I bother posting on here. It's a sad little man that aims that insult at someone, especially when there is no rationale or evidence to suggest that it is true. I thought this forum was above that kind of petty school playground level of insults/bullying. Grow up mate please. As I said previously you have not posted before and yet come on here saying Barton out Me and many others would consider it highly suspicious and from a poster of the red persuasion. But I could be completely wrong and will apologise if not the case. However.... If you are truly blue Answer these questions Who was Dcs first signing during our conference season ? Who was the manager appointed between Garner and Barton ? Who were Rovers first ever opponent at the Mem ? Get all three and I will send you a Rovers gift and fully accept you as a fellow gashead.

Ah yes, Stockport, the first opponent at the Mem for Rovers 2nd home fixture of the season - the first home fixture of the 96/97 season being played at Twerton Park as the promised return to Bristol was delayed for a variety of 'spurious' reasons.
I do recall a lot of disgruntled voices on the Bristol End terrace of Twerton Park as the new season didn't herald the long awaited return to Bristol, so the first game of the season against Peterborough was played out on a poor surface in front of 6,232 spectators who witnessed a 1-0 win from an Andy Gurney goal.
It was touch and go that the Mem would be ready to stage the Stockport fixture but the game went ahead and ended in a 1-1 draw. Rovers took the lead thanks to Lee Archers strike, a goal that perhaps shouldn't have been as the cross bar was further from the playing surface than it should have been!
The good old days when the custodians of the club had their fingers on the pulse.

These are the dates I have Alfie Biggs left 16.3.68 Dick Plumb at Rovers 30.4.65 until 16.10.68 Joe Gadston at Rovers 7.5.68 until 5.11.69 Robin Stubbs arrived 10.7.69 So there was always at least one recognised CF in that period.... I remember fans chanting Joe Gadstons name but I cant remember anything else about him,Robin Stubbs was lodging near where we lived and I remember him not being popular with some of the crowd,I dont know why.

I thought harrybuckle was talking about Barton. It transpires it was aimed at you. This is unacceptable personal abuse. harrybuckle - this is a warning.

The anti Vietnam war protesters used to chant Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh and Rovers fans followed suit with Joe Joe Joe Gadston but, like you, that is about all I can remember. My theory about why Robin Stubbs wasn't popular with some of the fans is that in some ways he looked as though he was trying to be like Alfie Biggs and that didn't go down too well with older supporters who had built up a great affection for Alfie over a long period and didn't like to see him copied by someone they rated as inferior. There was one older chap on our Yatton/Claverham coach who really had it in for Robin which set him up for some good hearted "abuse" from us younger lads. I can remember him boarding the coach at the Railway Inn to a chorus of "Robin is our king, Robin is our king, up the table we must go . . ." But one night he became a hero when we were returning from a match and on reaching the summit of the Redcliffe Flyover (talked about on here recently) saw a car just about to enter the flyover coming the wrong way. The old coach lurched to a hault and a few of the chaps at the front got off to help led by Robin's nemesis. The car had somehow managed to get itself stuck on the sides of the flyover and the woman driver was in tears. But our "Dad's Army" soon had it lifted off and rolled down the slope onto the road and when they got back on the coach were greeted with sustained applause and a good deal of merriment from those of us in the back seats.

Having read Mike's previous posts I thought he wasn't keen on the manager, and assumed he was referring to him.

Not happy about having a correspondent from the terrorist state though! And the account created a week after the illegal invasion is a bit suspect. Plus 'gas' from that country will soon be a thing of the past - we're weaning ourselves off their fossil fuels.

I think that Alfie Biggs was seen as 'one of our own' not just because he was from Bristol but also he seemed like an ordinary bloke who was very good at football, fans could identify with him, could it be that they might have thought that Robin Stubbs was a bit flashy ?.....if so they would be shocked at some very ordinary playes and the way they behave/are treated now.
