In a wild and wonderful contest in the Danish capital, United showed guile and grit for periods and twice looked to have claimed a crucial win before succumbing late on to a goal from 17-year-old substitute Roony Bardghji. They were cruising midway through the first half thanks to Rasmus Hojlund's double against his hometown club - both close-range finishes from a striker knowing exactly where he needed to be and when. But the game turned in the 42nd minute when referee Donatas Rumsas was called to the pitchside monitor to rule on a late tackle by Rashford to the ankle of Elias Jelert and responded by showing the forward a red card. With 13 minutes added, largely as a result of an injury to United defender Jonny Evans and a medical emergency in the crowd, the home side took advantage through Mohamed Elyounoussi's finish and a Diogo Goncalves penalty - awarded for a handball by Harry Maguire. United defied their numerical disadvantage to hold the home side at bay, before again claiming the lead through Bruno Fernandes' penalty - awarded via VAR for a handball by Lukas Lerager. But the home side were not to be denied. Lerager made amends and drew them level with a back-post header, before Bardghji hammered home after United failed to clear. While United are down, they are not yet out, although they do now sit bottom of Group A and face a game at Galatasaray - where they have never won - before hosting the already-qualified Bayern Munich. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/b96b1123-4b90-4820-adde-bf09450b7ba8.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/11b891b6-aa54-463f-af5d-e93f479baf3c.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/42e98ba7-b59f-4107-9202-4f70aba51abc.png

Wednesday November 8th 2023 Group B Arsenal 2 (Trossard 29, Saka 64) Sevilla 0 Report By Emma Smith, BBC Sport
Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka scored as Arsenal claimed a comfortable Champions League victory over lacklustre Sevilla. Trossard, who started as number nine with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah both injured, swept the Gunners in front in the 29th minute. Saka clinched the three points in the 64th minute, racing away from the defence before slotting home. Arsenal top Group B on nine points from four games, while Sevilla are bottom of the table. The Spanish side, who won the Europa League last season, are still looking for their first win in this Champions League campaign. They were comprehensively outplayed by the hosts, who took a deserved lead when Trossard finished Saka's low cross after the England winger was set away by Jorginho's fine through-ball. Saka turned from provider to finisher with a composed second goal, having been played through by Gabriel Martinelli. The game ended on a concerning note for Arsenal, however, as Saka limped off with five minutes left after twisting his ankle. PSV's 1-0 victory over Lens denied Arsenal the chance to clinch a place in the last 16 with two matches to spare. But Mikel Arteta's men will qualify with one win from their final two group matches, regardless of other results. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/4B9B/production/_131655391_arsenal4.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/009B/production/_131655100_gettyimages-1771536714.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/d523fb92-944c-465e-80b1-1b3e040bbfe9.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/09d4f1b9-d075-4400-939e-21623b13a941.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/8a198eb6-cbea-40f6-88f1-d72bd2cf7946.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/f733d5fc-3a0e-48d0-a927-51e191870382.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/63887d75-7be1-4c1d-aefc-aa22d3e98441.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/b1e8abbe-7771-4989-9352-c76bb1c731fe.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/7b131507-e10f-44d4-8071-e23a5be715cd.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/11/8/5ecf6194-65f7-46a1-8661-ee2319881238.png................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. TUESDAY 28th NOVEMBER 2023 - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RESULTS
GROUP E
Lazio 2 Celtic 0 ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FC16/production/_131843546_20927892.jpgLazio with Ciro Immobile in attack are a far better team than Lazio without him. The Italy international brought a gun to a knife fightCeltic's European hopes ended in frustrating fashion after substitute Ciro Immobile's late double denied them what would have been a creditable draw with Lazio. Brendan Rodgers' side needed to win to preserve any hope of progression in the Champions League, or even the consolation of a Europa League spot. And while the Scottish Premiership side were resilient in Rome, they struggled to eke out chances. Lazio endured an exasperating evening themselves but ultimately could rely on the quality of Immobile. The Italy striker flashed a deflected Gustav Isaksen cross past Joe Hart in the 82nd minute, then capitalised on a Liam Scales misjudgement three minutes later to cut inside Cameron Carter-Vickers and roll in a second. The win was enough to confirm Lazio's place in the last-16 after Atletico Madrid beat Feyenoord 3-1 in Rotterdam. And it means Celtic's meeting with the Dutch in Glasgow in two weeks will be a dead rubber for both sides, as well as the Scottish champions' final continental game of this term. Feyenoord 1 Atlético Madrid 3 GROUP FPSG 1 Newcastle United 1 ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/19F4/production/_131844660_kylianmbappe.jpgKylian Mbappe converted the equalising penalty in the 98th minute
Kylian Mbappe scored a controversial late penalty to deny Newcastle an impressive win at Parc des Princes but the draw keeps the visitors in the fight to reach the Champions League knockout stages. The spot-kick was awarded after review by the video assistant referee, with referee Szymon Marciniak consulting the pitchside monitor before ruling Tino Livramento had handled the ball inside the box when blocking a cross. It was a cruel blow for Eddie Howe's side, who had looked on course to secure a hugely impressive win after Aleksander Isak struck in the first half when Miguel Almiron's effort had been pushed to the striker's feet. Newcastle then defended with everything they had to keep out PSG and Nick Pope made a superb save from close range to deny first Bradley Barcola and then Kylian Mbappe, who drove the rebound just wide. But the visitors' resolve was broken deep in stoppage time when PSG were awarded the penalty, from which Mbappe made no mistake. The result means Newcastle are third in Group F, two points behind second-placed PSG. Eddie Howe's side now need to beat AC Milan in their final group game and hope already qualified Borussia Dortmund get a result against PSG. AC Milan 1 Borussia Dortmund 3 GROUP GManchester City 3 RB Leipzig 2 ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17790/production/_131844169_gettyimages-1807992002.jpgManchester City - for whom Erling Haaland scored his 40th Champions League goalErling Haaland obliterated a Champions League goalscoring record at Etihad Stadium as Manchester City fought back from two goals down to complete a thrilling victory against RB Leipzig. The Norway forward is the quickest player ever to score 40 goals in the competition - reaching the milestone in just 35 matches, 10 fewer than Ruud van Nistelrooy, the previous record holder. His goal also sparked a comeback win that ensured City, already through to the last 16, secured top spot in Group G with a game to spare. For an uncomfortable 40 minutes, it looked as though their proud 28-match unbeaten home European record was about to come to an end. But the second-half introductions of Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku transformed City. Within seconds, Alvarez had sent Haaland through to half the deficit - and with Doku's running unbalancing the Leipzig defence, Phil Foden took advantage of the space he found after collecting Josko Gvardiol's inside pass to level. Three minutes from time, Alvarez completed the fightback, steadying himself eight yards out before delivering a precise finish to the corner after Foden had provided the cross. WEDNESDAY 29th NOVEMBER 2023 - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RESULTS
GROUP A
Galatasaray 3 Manchester United 3ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/BF20/production/_131882984_hakimziyechreutersbody.jpgManchester United's Champions League hopes suffered another setback as a horror show from goalkeeper Andre Onana allowed Galatasaray to earn a draw in a classic match in Istanbul. Erik ten Hag's side did so much right and twice held a two-goal lead but errors from Onana threw Galatasaray lifelines to leave United bottom of Group A with their hopes of reaching the knockout phase in the balance before their final game at home to Bayern Munich. After Bayern Munich's draw with Copenhagen later in the evening, Manchester United will be knocked out of the competition if they fail to beat the German champions and there is a winner between Galatasaray and Copenhagen in a fortnight. 'I am responsible' - but Ten Hag vows Man Utd will have success United, as they did in their last Champions League game in Copenhagen, were in a commanding position early on after superb strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes inside the first 18 minutes. Onana's poor attempt to stop Hakim Ziyech's free-kick got Galatasaray back in the game before half-time but United looked to have gained control again in what was a hostile atmosphere when Scott McTominay turned in Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross 10 minutes after the break to make it 3-1. However Ziyech was gifted a second goal from another free-kick after an even more stark blunder from Onana, who made a hapless attempt to keep the ball out, before Galatasaray substitute Kerem Akturkoglu's explosive finish brought them level with 19 minutes left. In a dramatic end-to-end finale, Wilfried Zaha missed a glorious chance for Galatasaray and Fernandes struck the upright as United's Champions League destiny was taken out of their own hands. Bayern Munich 0 FC Copenhagen 0 GROUP BArsenal 6 Lens 0 ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/BC6E/production/_131883284_gettyimages-1810386792.jpgArsenal reached the Champions League knockouts as group winners by thumping Lens at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners scored five in a phenomenal first-half display as they reach the last 16 in their first appearance in the competition for seven years. Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard all scored in the first half, before Jorginho added a late penalty. Arsenal progress from Group B alongside PSV Eindhoven, with Lens out. Havertz, brought into the starting XI after scoring the winner against Brentford at the weekend, opened the scoring on 13 minutes when Lens failed to clear a looping ball into the box. Jesus nodded across goal and Havertz showed a striker's instinct to finish from close range ahead of goalkeeper Brice Samba. Jesus turned scorer to slot the second past Samba from 15 yards, sweeping home after being set up by Saka's powerful run between defenders from the right. Arsenal's attacking unit was in full flow, illustrated by Saka taking his turn to move from provider to scorer just two minutes and 20 seconds later, steering the ball home after Samba saved from Martinelli. Brazil winger Martinelli would not be denied and scored the best of the lot on 27 minutes, finding the far bottom corner after cutting inside from the left. The fifth came in first-half stoppage time, Odegaard perfectly timing a volley from 12 yards following Takehiro Tomiyasu's excellent cross. Arsenal are the first side in Champions League history to have five different scorers in the first half of a match. A more sedate second half followed, before Jorginho added a sixth from the spot following a handball by Abduqodir Khusanov. Spare a thought for Union Berlin. Never lost by more than a goal. In 3 of the 4 games they lost - they conceded in the 89th, 94th and 94th minute. FFS! Probably better to skip the Europa League and concentrate on staying in the Bundesliga. But if they went down - the supporters wouldn't give a damn. It's not that sort of Club. It's my kind of Club.

Diaz curled a superb finish into the top corner three minutes after half-time to give Real the win in Germany. The Spanish midfielder started in place of Jude Bellingham, who missed the game due to injury. His goal puts Real in a good position to reach the quarter-finals for the 12th time in the past 14 seasons. Leipzig frustrated Real until the 48th minute, when former Manchester City midfielder Diaz turned on the right touchline and beat two players, before dancing past several others and curling the ball into the top corner. The Spaniards could not add to their score however, coming closest when Vinicius Jr struck the outside of the post having been set through by the impressive Diaz. They were also grateful to goalkeeper Andriy Lunin - who kept a clean sheet despite Leipzig having nine shots on target - and for the decision to disallow Benjamin Sesko's second-minute header. Real host the second leg at Santiago Bernabeu on 6th March.
