Hurray! At last,a Rovers football match.
Charlton Ath should provide tough competition, hopefully an entertaining game.Athletic are nicely placed in the form league with the thrashing of Shrewsbury being their last game.6 0 with 5 different scorers. The Addicks have sold their ticket allocation of 1,167. Achtung Rovers!
Results were generally kind to us in our "temporary absence " seeing us remain 10 points above the trap door to the 4th tier.Accrington Stanley have struggled eg.
Beefy will quite likely get selected, won't he?
Part of me thinks we may as well attack and have a real good go at Charlton.
Then again,we are not safe just yet.
Looking forward to it.
Come on Rovers!

We have played Charlton 67 times, W23, D19 & L25..Biggest victory 4-0, loss 1-5 & 2-5 and a 5-5 home draw on 18th November 1978.
Charlton were founded in 1905, are known as The Addicks, The Valiants and The Red Robins, Their owner is the Dane Thomas Sandgaard.
Charlton play their home games at the Valley from 1919-1985 and 1992 to the present day, it's capacity is 27,111. The ground also held rugby league games there too with the London Broncos from 1996-97 & 1999-2000. Charlton also played at the homes of Crystal Palace and West Ham while the new Valley was constructed...
Manager Dean Holden is 43 and played his 427 career games for Oldham, Shrewsbury, Rochdale, Walsall, P'Bro, Falkirk and Rotherham.
Dean has also managed at Oldham, Bristol C*ty and now Charlton since christmas last year...
Charlton's main rivals are their South London neighbours, Crystal Palace and Millwall. Unlike those rivals Charlton have never competed in football's fourth tier and are the only one of the three to have won the FA Cup. Charlton are closest in proximity to Millwall than any other club, with The Valley and The Den being less than four miles (6.4 km) apart. They last met in July 2020, a 1–0 win for Millwall at the Valley. Since their first Football League game in 1921, Charlton have won 12, drawn 26 and lost 37. The Addicks have not beaten Millwall in the last twelve fixtures between the sides and their last win came in March 1996 at The Valley.
Goalkeeper Sam Bartram holds the appearances record with 623 and Derek Hales is their record goalscorer with 168.
Stand out managers have been Jimmy Seed, Andy Nelson, Mike Bailey, Lennie Lawrence, Lee Bowyer, Chris Powell and Alan Curbishley.
FA Cup glory came in the 1946-47 season beating Burnley 1-0 a year after losing in the final to Derby County 4-1 aet.
Charlton are currently in 12th place and BRFC are in 15th, should be a cracking game...

Regarding our position in the 3rd tier.
'We're safe',but not safe safe'. As Mick Flanagan might say.
A point or 3 would nice.

Good morning, Gas or time of the day wherever you are.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder...? I don't know about that. I just think it's good to be home on a day that offers much in the way of weather, crowds pre and post match company surrounding the the 90 mins of theatre.
I would rather be on the Glos Rd than travelling away. It's adopted spiritual home, and whilst I never shed a tear leaving Twerton, the same can't be said for me if we are (un)fortunate to find a new abode. Only time will tell..
Anyhoos, onto more less important matters:
Defence shot after 8 months is poor management imo and sometimes we are fighting ourselves as much as opposition and officials. Sort that out and am confident goals will come. Not confident on this one, but it is there to be won.
A Gas double. 1-0. Coburn.
8888 attendance. Plenty of beverages of choice to see that spring has sprung (not Andy), so see some of you later and don't forget your shades 😎
Enjoy your day your way. Looking forward to this. UptheGas..

I think we wanted the 3 points more than Athletic.I thought 1 goal would win it and we managed to get 'over the line'.
Lucca Hoole was excellent and as has been posted ,he deserved his MOTM award.
Bogarde was also very good, going about his midfield duties quietly and efficiently.
A midfield to select from Bogarde,Rossitter, Finley and Ward would be lovely for next season. 🤞
Gibson played very well, cool and calm. His goal line tackle/clearance played a major part in our victory.
Joe got his selection and tactics right.
48 points looks good and vital after Stanley beat Vale 3 0.

Stats: BRFC 1 Charlton 0 - 41% - 59% - Shots 10-6 - On Target 3-1 - Corners 5-8 - Referee: Simon Mather - Attendance: 9,613 (1,159 away)i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8334631.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Charlton_WC-376.jpgAfter a timid start to the game, the visitors were the first side to have half a chance at goal. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi clipped in a cross into the Rovers penalty area but the winger had overcooked his pass and the ball sailed over everyone and away to safety. Lewis Gibson set off on a surging run upfield. The centre-back passed the ball to Lewis Gordon, whose cross took a deflection and certainly worried Ashley Maynard-Brewer in the Charlton net before flying over for a corner kick to the Gas. Rovers came closest to taking the lead just before the half-time whistle. The ball was worked back out to the edge of the box following a Gas free-kick. Grant Ward rolled the ball into the path of Antony Evans, who hit his effort first time and was only denied by Maynard-Brewer at full stretch. During the half-time break, the official Bristol Rovers players' cap was awarded to Harry Bamford and accepted by his daughter Hilary Lewis. Born & raised in St Philip's Marsh, Harry made 486 league appearances for the Gas between 1945-58. Joey Barton switched things up on the hour mark. Aaron Collins and Ryan Loft entered the pitch replacing Antony Evans and Scott Sinclair for the final 30 minutes. John Marquis replaced Josh Coburn in the 65th minute. Rovers were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute. Lamare Bogarde's clever flick caused the ball to strike the arm of the Charlton defender and the referee showed no hesitation as he pointed to the spot. John Marquis stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot-kick to put the Gas one to the good as we entered the final 20 minutes at The Mem. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8334454.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Charlton_WC-263.jpgi2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8334452.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Bristol_Rovers_V_Charlton_WC-278.jpgLewis Gibson came up with a huge block to keep the Gas in the lead. Miles Leaburn rose highest following a cross and was denied only by the determination of the Rovers no.17. Next up for Rovers is the Easter Monday visit to Highbury to play Fleetwood Town. Rovers: James Belshaw, James Connolly, Lewis Gordon, Sam Finley (c), Scott Sinclair (60'), Grant Ward, Lewis Gibson, Antony Evans (60'), Lamare Bogarde, Luca Hoole, Josh Coburn (65'). Subs: Jed Ward, Aaron Collins (60'), John Marquis (65'), Ryan Loft (60'), Harry Anderson, James Gibbons, Luke McCormick. Charlton: Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Steven Sessegnon, Terell Thomas, George Dobson (c), Micheal Hector, Albie Morgan, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Scott Fraser, Ryan Inniss, Miles Leaburn, Tyreece Campbell. Subs: Joe Wollacott, Macauley Bonne, Mandela Egbo, Jack Payne, Aaron Henry, Daniel Kanu, Zach Mitchell.

Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Charlton Athletic: Hoole and Gibson outstanding in deserved win..by Sam Frost
James Belshaw - 7 Did not have a save to make throughout the game with his defence performing brilliantly, although he would have been pleased to see Gibson in the right place at the right time to clear Miles Leaburn's header off the line in stoppage time. On a quiet afternoon, Belshaw got his basics right, with precise kicking and a couple of commanding punches.
Luca Hoole - 9 Outstanding performance from an in-form player. Made significant contributions in attack and defence, curbing the threat of Charlton out wide and shutting down any moments of danger before bursting forward to great effect. That was on show as the Gas won the penalty to break the deadlock, producing a clever flick around the corner for Bogarde to meet. It was a little moment of class on an afternoon that seemed certain to end goalless.
James Connolly - 7 Had a solid game until the very last minute when he gave his teammates a scare by ceding possession in a dangerous area, but Gordon was on hand to block the shot from substitute Daniel Kanu.
Lewis Gibson - 9 Didn't put a foot wrong all afternoon. Defended with great authority while also showing his class on the ball. Led the backline expertly and made a decisive contribution in stoppage time by hooking Leaburn's header off the line.
Lewis Gordon - 8 Goes from strength to strength. Sometimes, he can be on the periphery in the attacking phase, but he was a big part of many of Rovers' best build-up moments and he defended cleverly to ensure the Gas did not come under significant pressure in the second half.
Grant Ward - 7 Tireless in the centre of the park, making of a nuisance of himself from first minute to last to deny the Charlton playmakers time and space. Could have made better use of the ball in the final third, but he played a big part in a clean sheet.
Sam Finley (c) - 7 Caught in possession in dangerous areas on a couple of occasions, but he used the ball well for the most part and latched onto second balls at both ends of the park. A solid showing from the captain, who could have had a goal on another day had Coburn's through ball not been smartly intercepted by Ryan Inniss.
Lamare Bogarde - 8 His persistence, aggression and quality meant that the Gas won the midfield arm wrestle as the game went on, and the Dutchman played a massive part in the winner, darting into the box and forcing a handball from George Dobson. The Aston Villa prospect's engine was still running on all cylinders deep into stoppage time when he ran the ball away from danger to make sure of the win.
Antony Evans - 7 Linked well with Hoole on the right flank throughout his 60 minutes on the pitch and he proved to be quite an effective outlet on the right flank. Produced the best effort of the first half by far when he forced a fine save from Ashley Maynard-Brewer with a 25-yard blast that seemed destined for the top corner.
Scott Sinclair - 6 Had some nice exchanges with the likes of Gordon and Finley, but his wayward strike from 20 yards after darting inside Steven Sessegnon summed up a first half lacking in quality in the final third. Replaced on the hour.
Josh Coburn - 7 Gave everything for the team in his 66 minutes, leading the line alone and doing well to occupy the Charlton centre-backs. However, chances didn't fall his way and he could not produce the required quality when he had opportunities to create for his teammates. A solid performance nonetheless.
Substitutes Aaron Collins (for Evans on 60') - 7 Would have been frustrated to see himself on the bench when the team was named, but he was an effective impact sub and looked likely to create a goal.
Ryan Loft (for Sinclair on 60') - 7 Made a real nuisance of himself, which put Charlton on the back foot before the opener and then helped get the Gas up the pitch when they had a lead to protect.
John Marquis (for Coburn on 66') - 8 The South Londoner proved to be Charlton's tormentor again. After a double off the bench to win it at The Valley, he decided the contest again by dispatching the penalty. Thereafter, he showed intelligence to keep the ball and secure the win.

Unlike the last time I saw these two teams play in a dramatic 5-5 draw, this was a totally forgettable game.
I'd take three points over drama any day though.
Unlike previous seasons, we should be safe on 48 points but I'll feel a whole lot safer when we're on 50+.
