not a big film buff, but have seen 3 that are in the line with this years nominations, Maverick Top Gun, All quiet on the western Front and Anything every thing all at once[still confused on that!!..... but what comes to mind is the Maverick, where the soundtrack is nom'ed for original song.... just heard it again on Steve Wright [sunday love songs] by Lady GaGa [ not a big fan] never struck a chord with me.. i was listening out for Berlin's song throughout the film, and seem to still associate it with this movie...

A long dry period from January has seen me ploughing through films every evening. If anyone wants to discuss film - here is a place to do it. 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' is a steaming pile of dog dirt. Avoid at all costs. 'All Quiet on the Western Front' is brilliant cinema. But it didn't show enough of the good 'ole USA winning the war, hence why it didn't win Best Picture.

Have to agree. EEAAO is the Emperors new clothes. A few critics jumped on it early on and urged people to just 'go with the ride and enjoy it'. It is just simply awful. A total mess. I would suggest it's about 2% plot and 98% holes.

LaLa Land springs to mind here....... all the acting/showbiz luvvies thought that this reincarnation of times past was THE best thing since sliced bread, think i endured 20 minutes before giving up, eating my bag of toffees in the light was more entertaining that trying to unwrap them in the quiet of the cinema.....

Yup. As a general rule "films about films" are dreadful. Even worse are "films about Hollywood". Of interest to people who work in Hollywood and critics. Critics who rely on a close relationship with Hollywood. Example - the Oscar nominated "Mank". Even with the brilliant Gary Oldman. Another stinking pile of self-indulgent, steaming dog pooh. And to prove there is an exception to the rule - "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Is a great film!
