Personally I thought Jarell Quansah struggled while with us in Tier 3. Undoubtedly a quality player, but at times didn't seemed prepared for the physically of first team football at our level. Any benefit of this loan arrangement was clearly to Liverpool FC and to Quansah himself. He was given a opportunity of gaining first team experience, away from age group football, and able to make mistakes and learn from them. I don't see how we benefitted at all - indeed, this loan came from a time our promising position simply fell away towards the end of the season. Compare to Connor Taylor, who is probably nowhere near as good a ball-playing centre-back at Quansah, but was commanding from day one, and took to our division like a duck to water from such a young age. Best wishes to Jarell for the Euro campaign. I think we need to get away from relying on loan players so much. I know it's the nature of the beast these days for clubs below championship level but as you say it mostly benefits the player and parent club. You can't build a squad around players that you know you will only have for a certain period of time, and if the parent clubs have conditions regarding game time their players must get it is often to the detriment of the host team's players. It feels generally like we are going the way of leagues in other countries where lower league teams are tied to certain big teams, or even where the reserve team plays in the lower leagues like in Germany. I think a lot of premier league teams would go down the route of a closed American style league if they could get away with it, they tried it didn't they? There's definitely a place for the loan system: helps if a club is struggling with unfortunate injuries. But, like you say, we've been relying on it too much, and it's a huge gamble. When we were benefitting from having Elliot Anderson on loan, I was talking to a Lincoln fan who was bemoaning the fact that the previous year they had done so well in the loan market (finished 5th and lost in the Third Tier play-off final), yet the following year the loan players just hadn't worked out (ended up 17th in the table). We got more and more reliant on loan players over the last 3 years: 2021/22 = 5. 2022/23 = 7. 2023/24 = 8. Many of these loan players are youngsters moving for the first time from age group football - where it's more about style of play than a competitive nature - straight to first team football at a faster rate, much more physical, against wily old pros, much larger crowds, and very much more competitive. You just don't know how they will take to it, how it will work out - it's a big gamble. Sometimes it will work out to the clubs benefit, and we will all sight Elliot Anderson in that respect. But even JB admitted it was a complete fluke we got him. 11th hour, we'd missed out on our transfer target, a championship club (Luton I think) pulled out of taking him at the last minute, Newcastle desperate to get him loan experience, we're desperate to get something done... Other times it doesn't work out - I could list a fair few among those 20 over the past 3 years. And agree about loans with conditions in them! We've wondered that about certain players recently.

A report from the Liverpool echo from July last year...Who is Jarell Quansah? i2-prod.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incoming/article27607933.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/1_Screenshot-2023-08-28-122745.jpgFor Quansah, the initial session was also his first on home soil in nearly six months after spending the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One. Under the guidance of one of the Premier League's most contentious figures in Joey B*****, the Reds' young star couldn't have asked for a more well-versed mentor for the novice days of his professional career in England's third division. Despite winning just two of his 16 League One appearances with the Pirates as B*****'s men nearly sleepwalked towards an immediate return to the English Football League's bottom tier, the Warrington-born loanee's stint in the South West was hugely profitable and one that he will hope leads to further first-team exposure at Anfield in the years ahead. The former Manchester City, Newcastle and Burnley midfielder-turned-manager was relentless in his pursuit of striking a deal for Quansah and even travelled to Kirkby to watch the centre-back in an international Premier League Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain in early January. Yet despite an incredible two-goal salvo from the Reds' other central defender that night, Billy Koumetio, B***** made the gutsy decision to head for the exits after just 45 minutes of catching a glimpse of Quansah in the flesh. Fast forward a few days and no sooner had the England youth international, who is also eligible to represent Barbados and Scotland, put pen to paper on a deal at the Memorial Stadium was he thrust into the spotlight and more specifically the left side of a back three in a 5-1 defeat away at Morcombe. "The team conceded five and you'll always ask questions around the defence but I thought for a 19-year-old making his debut, I thought he was superb," said B***** of Quansah's debut despite the chastening defeat. Just weeks later, the 40-year-old was waxing lyrical about the Reds loanee once again as Quansah's EFL career started to gather momentum. "The sky's the limit for him, he can be whatever he wants," proclaimed B*****. "Jurgen Klopp doesn't feel the way he feels about you, training with the first team unless you're a good player." Although Rovers could be accused of taking their foot off the gas during the second half of the League One season as they drifted from the periphery of a play-off places to a disappointing 17th-place finish, Quansah was enthusiastic to soak up all of his time in the professional ranks and stints across both a three and four-man defence make him an outside candidate to Liverpool's current defensive predicament. i2-prod.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incoming/article27853134.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1719288289.jpg

Jarell Quansah signs new long-term Liverpool contract as Arne Slot rewards 21-year-old star with show of faith after breakthrough 18 months..by Ryan Walkeri.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/07/19/90562349-0-image-a-1_1728324191130.jpgJarell Quansah has signed a new long-term contract extension with Liverpool after impressing head coach Arne Slot. The 21-year-old central defender has been rewarded after a stellar breakthrough 18 months that has seen him become a first-team regular after originally joining the club as a kid. Quansah played an integral role during Jurgen Klopp's farewell season and started the first game of the new Premier League campaign at Ipswich, showing that he is firmly in the plans of the club. Reds captain Virgil van Dijk is currently preferred in a centre-back partnership with Ibrahima Konate, with Quansah providing back-up as he continues his development under Slot's watchful eye. His new contract extension follows after he also won his first England call-up in the summer and was highly rated by then manager Gareth Southgate, who asked Quansah to stay with the team for training even after he was cut from the final squad for the European Championship. The Liverpool academy star was delighted after signing his new deal and revealed he is learning from the club's senior stars in a bid to become a permanent presence at Anfield. Beaming, Quansah told the club's official website: 'I couldn't be happier at this minute. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/07/19/90562389-0-image-a-6_1728324218621.jpg'I think the way the new manager has come in, his coaching style has definitely been a massive part of that and I think it is the best club in the world for me to develop at and become a better player. 'I think the players around me, who I'm looking to work hard off and listen to, I think they're the best in the position at the minute. So, like I said, there is probably no better place I could be.' Liverpool's show of faith calms outside interest after Newcastle previously made a summer approach for his services in a deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon move in the other direction. Outlining his plans to play a key role in Liverpool's future, he continued: 'I just want to keep trying to get better on the training pitch really and as long as I stay tunnel vision to that. 'I just want to keep progressing, keep trying to learn, and keep trying to get better and better [by] trying to learn off all the senior players, and I've got a lot in my position so anything I can take from them I am trying to do day by day. 'I am hoping to obviously push as well, hopefully we're breeding quite a good environment that we're all challenging for places and as long as we're doing that I think we'll all become better players and ultimately become a better team.'

When Quansah was here just over a year ago, I never thought he would get to this level with Liverpoo, and its the same with Bogarde at Villa. Let's not forget, Bogarde was thought or not to be good enough for our first side six months ago.. but now is starting for Villa in the Premier and champions league! - Crazy! I think Sousa looks the best so far out of our recent loan signings after Elliott Anderson. I think he will do the same.

Well done to Jerell, well deserved. With us I thought for his first stint in senior football he was good. Centre halves always get knocked about by players but he did well. Was never going to be the finished article like some expected him to be, it was a steep learning curve. Back at Liverpool or for any loanee at their home clubs, they are playing alongside better players, probably getting better coaching so if they have talent it’s not surprising they look better and do well. Last season our defence wasn’t that stable, lots of changes Wilson, Taylor didn’t have their best times and now he is consistently playing alongside Virgil van Dyke! Of course he’ll get better. Good luck to him.
UTG!

I thought he had the potential to be very successful after his stint with us but never expected him to be realising this so soon. Loved the way he brought the ball out of defence (like a Rolls Royce) but always felt there was a costly mistake in him every game. Playing alongside Van Dijk rather than Beefy would clearly help any aspiring centre half. He undoubtedly benefited from his loan with us and I think more than we got in return. No criticism of him for that. As others have said it was a lot to ask a young untried player who had not played a league game till he joined us to carry our back line. Clearly learned from his time here and the National side will benefit if he’s eliminated those mistakes.
Will also have enhanced our reputation as a club worth loaning talented young players to. Good luck to him in the future
