The best darts leg ever: Stars react to Michael Smith’s epic 9-darter..
Michael Smith produced a nine-darter for the ages in the 2023 World Championship final and his fellow darts professionals have been eager to offer their praise.
Smith and Michael van Gerwen played out what many have hailed as the greatest leg in darts history – as MVG missed double 12 to hit a nine-darter himself, only for Bully Boy to follow up and nail his attempt.
The moment soon went viral online, with fans paying tribute to Smith, van Gerwen and to Wayne Mardle — whose commentary of the leg was so good, he lost his voice.
Understandably, with almost every darts enthusiast on the planet watching the biggest match in the calendar, a number of players were quick to praise Smith for his incredible nine-dart leg.
Women’s World Matchplay champion Fallon Sherrock responded to the PDC’s tweet and wrote: “What a leg!! Incredible,” before adding some clapping emojis.
Sherrock, who lost in the first round of this year’s World Championship, has been touted as a potential participant in the Premier League.
Phil Taylor, a 14-time world champion, said: “A massive well done to Michael Smith. Well played buddy and welcome to the club, #worldchampion.”
Former world number one Gerwyn Price echoed this sentiment, tweeting: “What a final, congratulations Michael Smith, world champion [and] world number one.”
Last year’s champion Peter Wright also shared his thoughts – writing: “Congratulations on becoming world number one as well as the new world champion Michael Smith.”
It has to be the greatest leg of darts ever as MVG had a dart for the 9-darter and then MS hit the double for his 9-darter, the leg cannot ever be beaten...

Darts: Jonny Clayton relishing Gerwyn Price payback after World Cup win..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/538A/production/_130168312_2023wcfinal_wales8.jpg Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton repeated their 2020 heroics by winning the World Cup of Darts for a second timeJonny Clayton says he cannot wait to tease Wales team-mate Gerwyn Price after "carrying him" in PDC World Cup of Darts final. By his own admission, Price said Clayton was the better player in their 10-2 demolition of Scotland on Sunday. "I left Gerwyn Price on 36 [to seal victory] and I thought he's going to hit this and proper milk it, but he missed," Clayton said. Clayton then stepped up and hit double eight at the first attempt. "It was a special moment," he told BBC Sport Wales. "I've heard enough about him carrying me, so it's payback time and lookout. "I'm not going to let that one go, he's going to hear about that for the next year, week in, week out." Clayton believes his friendship and rugby banter with Price contributes to their success on the stage. "When you're playing with a smile on your face, it's much easier than being there miserable and can't wait for the game to be over. "I could have played another 20 games with Gerwyn Price and enjoyed every second of it. "He's a great guy, a brilliant captain, a fantastic dart player and we get on really well, so every tick is in the box. I couldn't wish for a better partner." Clayton also spoke of his pride in representing his country. "To put that red jersey on for Wales is something different," he said. "We are both from rugby backgrounds. Gerwyn had a cap for Welsh schools and I have never done that, so my only representation for Wales is through darts. "It's a fantastic feeling to walk on that stage, you turn around and obviously you see all the Welsh flags and you know Wales are all behind you. "We're [Wales] second to none when it comes to supporting our athletes and teams, so it was a great feeling." Clayton now hopes Wales will have a shot at hosting the World Cup of Darts in the future. "I'd love to see it, we have the Premier League here and so if that would happen it would be fantastic, "he said. "I know for a fact if it was in Wales, they would fill that Motorpoint Arena no problem. "We've got the rugby, we've got the football and now darts is on the map as well. I don't think we'll ever beat the rugby, but we might go above the football, so crossed fingers."

Gerwyn Price and rugby side Dragons announce partnership..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5D14/production/_130382832_price1.jpg Gerwyn Price shows off the Dragons logo on his darts shirt at Rodney ParadeDarts star Gerwyn Price is to wear the Dragons' crest on his shirt while the rugby side's new kits will feature the former world champion's logo. Dragons have announced the new partnership with world number four Price, a former rugby player and supporter of his home region. Price will wear his new shirt for the first time at the World Matchplay, which starts on Saturday in Blackpool. "I'll be proud to have Dragons on my shirt this season," Price said. "It's important to me to show my support for my local team and hopefully we'll both have a successful 12 months." Ex-hooker Price played for Neath and Cross Keys - and represented Wales at age-grade level alongside Dragons head coach Dai Flanagan - before quitting rugby in 2014 to focus on darts. The 2021 world champion added: "I'd have liked to have come down [to Dragons] and played for a few seasons, so it's nice to be involved in this way and really show my support for the team." Price's logo will be on the arm of Dragons' home, away and European shirts in 2023-24.

PDC World Matchplay: Nathan Aspinall beats Jonny Clayton 18-6 to win title for first time..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17D21/production/_130496579_gettyimages-1541333680.jpg Nathan Aspinall's previous PDC title win came at the 2019 UK OpenNathan Aspinall produced one of the best displays of his career to become PDC World Matchplay champion by thrashing Jonny Clayton 18-6. England's Aspinall won 13 of the last 14 legs, including 11 in a row from 5-5, at Blackpool's Winter Gardens. Aspinall moved up four places to fifth in the world rankings after clinching his second PDC event title. "I've got no words. I don't know what it was but I found it," the 32-year-old told Sky Sports. "I scored brilliantly all game. I knew I had to get rid of my darts quicker. The people who come to Blackpool are diehard darts fans." Welshman Clayton beat Luke Humphries 17-15 in a thrilling semi-final and made a 141 checkout to level the match at 5-5. But from thereon the 48-year-old was a virtual bystander as Aspinall, from Stockport, raced to victory. He produced a 170 finish on the bull to extend his lead to 11-5, and made his fifth 100-plus finish of 115 to move 13-5 clear, having averaged 110 over eight legs. World number seven Clayton stopped the rot to trail 16-6 but Aspinall, whose previous PDC win was the 2019 UK Open, clinched the biggest victory of his career with double five as he led 17-6. Aspinall, who lost the Grand Slam and Grand Prix finals last year, collected the £200,000 winner's prize and became the 12th player to lift the title. Earlier on Sunday, teenager Beau Greaves won the Women's World Matchplay at the first attempt. The 19-year-old top seed, making her debut in the competition, cruised to a 6-1 victory against Japan's second seed Mikuru Suzuki.

World Cup of Darts: Wales hammer Scotland 10-2 to win title..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/6B50/production/_130127472_price_clayton_celebrate_jonashunold_pdc.jpg Gerwyn Price (L) and Jonny Clayton were able to celebrate winning the World Cup of Darts for the second time
Wales' Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton hammered Scotland 10-2 in the final to win the PDC World Cup of Darts for the second time. They stormed into an early lead in Frankfurt against Peter Wright and Gary Anderson and went on to repeat their 2020 victory. Price said the winning margin was "a little bit flattering". "I think I struggled a little bit in that game and Jonny won it for us tonight," he added. "He was fantastic, he was clinical. I've carried him a few years, but he carried me tonight - what a player." After hitting the double eight that sealed victory, Clayton said: "It's absolutely fantastic - what a feeling. "We got off to a quick start and kept the lead. I don't think Gary and Peter played their best, but we did our job and kept the lead. "The belief in each other, the confidence in each other works - and when they go, they go pretty. Tonight was a good night. "Gerwyn is my best buddy on tour and he's an amazing skipper." Wright said: "The Welsh were the favourites for the tournament and they played fantastic in the final. "It's been a really good tournament with pairs all the way through. "It's amazing playing with Gary, maybe old age caught up with us." Anderson added: "The Welsh have got a cracking team, they were spot on. "You've got Gerwyn and what he's done in darts over the last few years - it's bad enough playing against Gezzy, but then you've got Jonny banging them in. "We aren't getting any younger but we're still trying. We got to the final and any more's a bonus." Wales reached the final via a dramatic 8-7 semi-final win against Belgium. Scotland saw off Germany 8-5 in the last four while top seeds England earlier lost 8-3 to the hosts. Wright and Anderson, the 2019 winners, had earlier swept past France 8-0 at the Eissporthalle. But they were no match for the Welsh pair in a one-sided final, who took home the £80,000 prize. Price and Clayton were competing in tandem for a sixth consecutive year and became only the fourth nation to claim multiple World Cup successes. The end of the road for England's Michael Smith and Rob Cross came as they were well beaten by German's Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler.

Luke Littler 16 beats Rob Cross to reach World Darts Championship final..By Callum Matthews, BBC Sport.i2-prod.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/other-sports/darts/article31726431.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JS320038458.jpgTeenager Luke Littler's sensational run at the PDC World Darts Championship continued as the 16-year-old beat Rob Cross to storm into the final. Littler, playing in the tournament for the first time, lost the first set but recovered to win 6-2. Littler, who has now earned £200,000, is the youngest person to reach the final, overtaking Kirk Shepherd who was 21 years and 88 days old in 2008. "It is crazy to even think I am in the final on my debut," he said. Littler told Sky Sports: "I was happy to win one game and now I can go all the way. It's not easy. You are playing Rob, he is a world champion who won on debut. I've got no words." Asked about his preparation for Wednesday's final, Littler added: "I'll be doing what I've been doing. In the morning I'll go for my ham and cheese omelette and then come here, have a pizza and then prep on the board. That is what I've done every day." Luke Humphries faces Scott Williams in the second semi-final with both aiming to reach a first final. Humphries will become world number one if he reaches the final.

Luke Humphries beats Luke Littler to win PDC World Darts Championship..By Phil Cartwright, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/98BC/production/_132200193_40d2a9682ad4e735b1a62ab982de88a00de8fc37.jpgEngland's Luke Humphries defeated teenager Luke Littler 7-4 in a gripping final at Alexandra Palace to win his first PDC World Championship title. Littler, 16, was aiming to become darts' youngest ever world champion after a remarkable run to the final. But Humphries, the pre-event favourite who became world number one on Tuesday, saw off his challenge to claim the £500,000 first prize. Trailing 4-2, the 28-year-old won five consecutive sets to close out victory. Humphries has now won four of the past five major televised tournaments in the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation). Littler's progress on his World Championship debut has captured the public's imagination in the past three weeks and he produced another exceptional, composed performance in the final. However, Humphries' brilliance ensured the youngster fell just short of completing what would have been an amazing sporting fairytale.

New world champion Luke Humphries to Sky Sports:"I could not put into words how great this feels. "Honestly I was thinking in the back of my mind, 'get this one now' because he's going to dominate world darts soon! He's going to win plenty I'm sure. "He's an incredible player and when I was on the brink of winning he was relentless - but I was really, really proud of the performance. "That double eight at the end, I can't lie, my hand was shaking like mad. I'm world champion, world number one, I can't ask for more. "It makes it more incredible because there was a time in my life when I was really depressed and I couldn't do it up on the big stage and had a lot of problems - so to be world champion is unbelievable." More from world champion Luke Humphries to Sky Sports:"This is a moment that will never ever be forgotten. Everything I've wanted to do, I've done now. "Now it's about motivating yourself to do more and more - now I want be double world champion, I want to win loads of majors. "The world is my oyster, I can win as much as I want - but I will never dominate because we are in a sport now that is so competitive. "But Luke has been an unbelievable talent - not just on the dartboard, he has been fantastic with all the media. He took defeat so well there. "You will never see a 16-year-old kid as down to earth as him - he's just something else. He is one of the best players in the world, no doubt about that." Luke Littler on Sky Sports: "It's been unbelievable. The one negative was I lost too many legs on my throw so Luke could break me. "Fair play to Luke, he deserves it. On moving into the top 32 after his stellar week: "I would rather be in the top 32 than play the development tour. I am happy, top 32 and runner-up on my debut, it's unbelievable. "I got to the final and might not get to another for the next five or 10 years. I can say I'm runner-up but I just want to go and win it."

Bahrain Masters: Luke Littler beats Michael van Gerwen in final..
i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/01/19/21/80239383-12984983-image-a-19_1705698418537.jpg Luke Littler claimed his first PDC title after winning the Bahrain Masters on Friday eveningTeenager Luke Littler continued his stunning rise by beating Michael van Gerwen 8-5 to win the Bahrain Masters. It is Littler's first senior title after coming up short against Luke Humphries in the PDC World Darts Championship final earlier this month. Littler, 16, earlier threw a nine-darter in the first leg of his quarter-final victory over Nathan Aspinall. "No-one believes me but I hadn't thrown a dart since the world final until yesterday," Littler told ITV4. "MVG is the very best and I'm just very happy to win on my debut. It's been unbelievable this week." England's Littler broke Dutch three-time world champion Van Gerwen in legs eight and 12. He saw off Hong Kong's Man Lok Leung 6-3 in his opening match on Thursday before beating Aspinall 6-3 and Gerwyn Price 7-3 on Friday to reach the final. In beating Aspinall, Gerwyn Price and Michael Van Gerwen, he recorded victories over three of the world's top five ranked players to claim the title. Littler also became the youngest person to make a nine-darter - scoring 501 with the minimum number of darts required - on live television and is only the second player to achieve the feat in the World Series, which started in 2013, after 16-time world champion Phil Taylor. He heads back to Europe next to feature in the Dutch Masters on 26 and 27 January at Maaspoort Den Bosch. "I've not really set any goals for this year - I didn't even expect to pick up this trophy," Littler said. "I'm just going to have to see what my darts do." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/01/19/21/80239385-12984983-The_16_year_old_sealed_20_000_in_prize_money_after_beating_Micha-a-116_1705699849064.jpgLittler's win in Bahrain means he takes home the top prize of £20,000, adding to the £200,000 he earned for finishing as runner-up at the World Championship. He has plenty on the horizon after being selected as the youngest person to take part in the eight-player Premier League, which starts on 1st February. World champion Humphries, who beat English compatriot Littler 7-4 in the final at Alexandra Palace on 3rd January, was on track to meet the teenager again in Bahrain but he came up short in his quarter-final against Gerwyn Price. The Welshman sealed a 6-4 win in the opening match of the day to end world number one Humphries' 20-match winning streak.
