Even on a good day and with a fully fit side, we would struggle to match a Derby side that includes players like Hourihane and McGoldrick. Clearly this wasn't a good day.
Time for the authorities to begin to address the issue of big clubs overspending, being relegated to L1 and then being brought out by new owners before beginning the unhappy cycle again. It isn't sustainable or fair and is sometimes grotesque.
Clubs like Derby and Sheffield Wednesday effectively gambled and lost, and are being encouraged to gamble again. Meanwhile, inequality is trickling down through the leagues and distorting fair competition and good football governance.

2-0 down after 14 mins. Normally I'd go back to bed (3:15am here) but after the Plymouth game... 3.0 Bed must look inviting. Might even go back to bed myself. Sounds like some of our players beat you to it? Caught napping.

Well I did stay up, bad decision. 👎 We looked poor and tired. Far too many defensive and midfield errors. As often said, it's not the loss but the manner in which you play. We didn't appear up for it which, as of late, is not like this team. Very disappointing. Sounds like Wednesday night's game caught up with the team? Compounded by the absence of the admirable Gibson, a forced reshuffle at the back and the fact that Derby are in a position to employ top-end championship players just a season after being hours from extinction. Slightly disappointing that we gave away such soft goals, but all things considered, I don't think it was reasonable to expect a result from today's game.

However, the inequality and injustice in football league governance is so massive that you could hardly not notice it - how about 'cascading'? In recent years, we have had the likes of Blackburn, Sunderland, Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield United Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Norwich descend to L1. These are top-end championship sides who were horribly run. They were basically 'slumming' it in L1 before moving on to more salubrious surroundings. rom what I recall, Derby and Sheffield Wed were particularly egregious examples as they actually cheated in their pursuit of the PL promised land? You are correct - 'trickle down' was perhaps the most outrageous of the many lies told on behalf of neoliberalism.

Derby are on a very strict, EFL agreed, financial plan for the next two seasons. They cannot even spend any money on players, and all their wages are capped. They aren't even allowed to spend money on agents fees, as per their business plan. Every one of their players was a free, with massively reduced wages, or a loan with the parent club paying the majority or all of their wages (eg Dobbin)

Could still look a good result on paper, say, looking down the results end of season, how did we do away at the runaway champions?
The key now is, how do we bounce back from losing unbeaten run. We always seem to bounce back by looking confident and working hard at start of the next match. This result say in a one defeat in fourteen would be completely excusable.

In terms of wages, Hourihane is probably on as much as our entire first team. The guy was playing in a championship play-off team last season. Korey Smith, James Collins and McGoldrick were similarly championship regulars and won't have come cheap. This plan isn't strict enough - I would like to see clubs that cheat in the way that Derby did be automatically demoted to L2 and have to operate with the lowest wage bill in the entire league.

Still rankles that Southampton were able to steal Rickie Lambert off us and could outpay everyone else when they were run really badly and ended up in L1

The flow of inequality in football is totally the opposite of the flow of money under the neolib con trickle down. Add Coventry and some years before Man City Newcastle and Leeds to that list.

A great October for us, but with form man Lofty out, a game too soon and too far today.
Those above talking about McGoldrick and others on mad money are right...we can't compete with that nonsense and we should be proud of how our manager has us fighting and performing well against genuinely huge clubs.
The wonderful Pauline Murray sang "money talks, listen can't you hear it", back in 1978. Unfortunately, she was right then and wrong now.

The fact Joey has us playing the right way today rather than killing a game re. Shrewsbury at the mem shows he’s ultimately going to get this right. Today will be a lesson well look back on with fond memories in the future

Just got back...
Phewww what an amazing away day!? All except pitch activities.
What a kind thought of British Rail / police to keep everyone kettled on platform 1 with hour delay to allow train back to Bris to be crammed like sardines until Brum? ... And on the packed train, someone farted amongst that lot too. A lady of age later protested she'd call the police because of singing hourds of rude football fans singing loudly..... which is her perfect right, but all I saw and heard was genuine empathy for anyone trying to get off because they couldn't get to their stowed luggage.
Amazing following, we pretty much sang throughout even though we knew we were well beat before half time. Yes, they made some noise too, but it was a few times a football library.
Hey for me JAB didn't throw the match, but his reactions were too slow to deal with the problems on the pitch with his unusual starting lineup.
I think we've come such a long way this calender year, sometimes we need to take stop and breathe.... Plymouth Sheffield and Derby was always going to be a big ask, but our tactics and tired staff imploded here .
First of all, Beefy would usually have been first choice cb, but after hoole had a horrid start, he should have been replaced in position. They targeted our weaknesses and fully exploited them.
Second of all, it was always going to be difficult to maintain our high energy triangle passing on the 3rd match in 7 days against high level opponents, there should have been a contingency, and the team leaving the pitch was stronger than the team starting it....but my then, the match was long gone. For me, we needed more midfield support and the idea of 442 would have more effect.
Third of all, our wb and width were not performing, Flash got round of applause one week but poor yesterday. Gibbons got caught a few times and didn't get forward enough - credit to Derby, they pressed onto us - but we had no answer.
Fourth, BT turned hero to zero by scoring to give hope, but then being caught in possession a few mins later.
Defence poor. No support from JAB.
Finley won the ball a few times, but just as much lost possession and played some hospital balls. Rossiter tried and tried, I like him. McCormick anonymous. Evans scored a pen again, all he does is score and assist! 🤭 Coburn looked class where they struggled to contain him but too often he was on his own trying to hold up play.
Lastly I was stood (as few were sat) next to fella whom constantly shouted out when we were in possession being challenged: "go down!" ...well, maybe he's watched too much Rocky films or has a submissive partner, but either way it's an interesting outlook and shows we are all different.
Thank flip we are.
Summary.... great away day from start to finish (thank you again to Jane Dough on Choo Choo whom 365/1 blew me away, you know whom you are!?) but hell of respect because we tried and tried and put so much effort in, but on the day were beaten by ourselves making mistakes and by a better team.

Bury fans will always be annoyed at what happened to them. The EFL carry some responsibility esp around the responsible owners rules and allowing the exchange of the club the season they went to the wall. But Bury fans will be most annoyed at their owners over the past 5 years. They spent money they never had and their so called business plan (if it existed) was always going to lead to where they ended up. And that is where the EFL failed. By the impositions placed on Derby it looks like the EFL have learnt something, let’s hope it’s enough. UTG!

We followed the game on Saturday by live text in the Assembly Rooms ( very nice steak) - We all as one rate JB as potentially our greatest manager and will be if he’s gets us promotion next season.
At the same time, now and again he makes the wrong call - In the pisser John trophy he virtually changed the whole team, and for my money the team put out still put in a great performance.
After a cracking October in the knowledge that there’s enough quality in the squad to have freshened up the team on Saturday m: big time. Admittedly it was one of those games where every shot from Derby when in.
Still onwards upwards In November UTG

Only two league games, both winnable though one perhaps harder than the other. I think I prefer busy months, JB seems to keep out of controversy when matches come thick and fast. When he has time to re-invent the football world he often tries to do it! UTG!
