Sunday 9th October - Optus Stadium, Perth - Australia won the toss and decided to field.
England 208-6 (20 overs) Hales 84, Buttler 68, Woakes 13no, Ellis 3-20.
Very good opening stand of 132 for the 1st wicket, 5 of the 6 Aussie bowlers went for 10 an over, except for the brilliant Nathan Ellis 4-0-20-3 = 5 per over.
A good total for the openers Warner and Green to chase down, should be a cracking spectacle.

Lessons learnt. England won but their batting fell short in the last five overs. I think England finished 15 runs short of what they should have got. Good win though.

I hope after those first two matches that England don’t mess David Malan about. Leave him at number 3. He’s almost a specialist in that position and can be explosive or, as today, dig in and make a match-winning partnership with someone. Stokes needs to be lower down. I’m sure they will be contenders but that Australian team was almost their best team and I know the margin was only 8 runs but England bowled better and fielded a lot better. I’m not sure if anyone really takes much notice of the results in these warm up games, although I’m sure the Aussies want to beat the poms. And, just an observation, but we have Jos B the best player of the scoop shot in the world so could he please show the rest of his team how to do it! You don’t move the bat, you wait for the right ball to come onto where your bat is. It does look awful when they move the bat around to try and play it. It never works.
