Tyson Fury says he 'needs to fight Anthony Joshua' before he retires..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/01BC/production/_127644400_tyson_fury_reuters.jpgFury will face Chisora instead of Joshua in December, eight months on from his win over Dillian Whyte Tyson Fury says he "needs to fight" fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua before he retires. Negotiations over a potential bout between WBC champion Fury and former unified champion Joshua's teams broke down in September. Instead, Fury, 34, will defend his title against Derek Chisora in London on 3rd December. "I don't think I can retire today because I need that Joshua fight," Fury said on the High Performance Podcast. "We have been trying to make that fight for years. It's the fight that people want to see. It's the fight that I want to see as a boxing fan." Discussions over a potential bout between Fury and Joshua were held following the 33-year-old's defeat in a second fight against Oleksandr Usyk in August. Shortly after the bout, Fury challenged Joshua to a fight via a video on social media, to which Joshua accepted, saying he would be "ready in December". Negotiations ended with both parties blaming each other for the fight not coming to fruition. Fury's meeting with Britain's Chisora, 38 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be the third meeting between the pair, with Fury winning in 2011 and 2014. Fury won the WBC title, alongside the The Ring belt which he later vacated, in his second of three fights against Deontay Wilder in 2020. At the time, Joshua held the remaining titles in the heavyweight division, before his first defeat by Usyk 2021. In the past year, British heavyweights Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois have also earned statement wins in the division, with Dubois beating Trevor Bryan in June and Joyce defeating Joseph Parker in September. Despite all the potential bouts for Fury in 2023, he says Joshua remains top of his priorities. "For the last four or five years, there has been this three-headed monster: me, Wilder, Joshua," said Fury. "Joshua and Wilder have been slain, and I'm the last one standing. All of a sudden, you've got some new people coming up now - Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois, Usyk's gate-crashed the party. "Now there's a load of new blood that wasn't there five years ago and it's like, 'can you beat this person?' "But I think it would be an absolute dying travesty if me and Joshua didn't fight in this era." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/3D76/production/_127643751_boxingsplit.png

Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua: Promoter Eddie Hearn still hopeful of fight this year..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4634/production/_126827971_bbc-sport-index-imagery-2-split-images-gradient-6fa0450b-a039-4fb7-b6e5-f19c8cf27073.pngEddie Hearn says he has "not given up hope" of heavyweight Anthony Joshua fighting Tyson Fury this year. A deal for WBC champion Fury, 34, to face fellow champion Oleksandr Usyk for all the belts at Wembley Stadium on 29 April could be finalised next week. "I'm happy to make Joshua and Fury right now for the summer, whether Fury wins or loses against Usyk," Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn told BBC Sport. Joshua, 33, faces Jermaine Franklin at London's O2 Arena on 1 April. Hearn added if the Fury-Usyk bout falls through, Joshua - who is coming off the back of two consecutive losses to Ukrainian Usyk - is happy to step in. "If the Usyk fight doesn't get made, our message to Team Fury is that we'll make the fight now, for straight after the Franklin fight," he said. Saudi Arabia was understood to be the frontrunner to host the historic Fury-Usyk fight, the first undisputed heavyweight clash in the four-belt era, but Wembley Stadium is now considered the most likely venue. Usyk's promoter Alexander Krassyuk met with Queensbury Promotions' Frank Warren, who represents Fury, in London on Wednesday. "They've obviously gone to the Middle East to get that money, failed because Anthony Joshua is not involved in that fight, and now they've gone to Wembley," Hearn added. "I don't know how they get the numbers that Fury will demand for that fight, but if they can, brilliant. Hopefully for boxing it gets made because any time there's an undisputed clash it's great for the sport. "It doesn't matter if they failed in their attempt to secure a big Middle East fight or whatever has happened, it's tremendous for British boxing if it does come home." Fury and Joshua have been close to agreeing an all-British super-fight on a number of occasions, most recently in September. The proposed heavyweight contest for December fell through after undefeated Fury's self-imposed deadline for Joshua to sign the contract expired. "When we were negotiating the AJ-Fury fight, Tyson Fury was on social media every day calling him every name under the sun and telling him he had to sign the contract today," Hearn said. "We had daily deadlines. I haven't heard him say anything about Usyk. Certainly no deadlines. "Whatever way Tyson Fury wants to look at it, the fight with AJ will give him the payday he wants. He wants to make as much money as possible, and rightfully so, he's a fantastic fighter. The fight with AJ breaks all records. "I understand their focus is to make the Usyk fight, but we're ready if they want AJ."

Anthony Joshua: Tyson Fury can 'redeem himself' by agreeing all-British heavyweight fight..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/C7B7/production/_129172115_gettyimages-1249647434.jpgAnthony Joshua says Tyson Fury can "redeem himself from the circus" of a collapsed undisputed heavyweight bout by agreeing to fight him. Talks between Oleksandr Usyk, the WBO, WBA (Super) and IBF champion, and WBC title-holder Fury broke down last week. Joshua, 33, faces American Jermaine Franklin on Saturday in his first bout in 2023. He says he wants an all-British fight with Fury, whatever the outcome against Franklin at the O2 Arena. Joshua said: "There's no better time to get Fury in the ring than now because he needs me to redeem himself from this circus, this letdown. "He needs me so there's no better time than for him to call my name out and I'm someone that will take on any challenge." Joshua was in talks with his British rival over a fight last year following successive losses to Usyk, but could not reach an agreement and Fury fought Derek Chisora at Wembley Stadium in December instead. Fury then set his sights on facing 36-year-old Usyk in what would have been the first undisputed heavyweight contest since 1999. But after weeks of negotiations, both parties announced an agreement could not be reached due to a dispute over the terms of a potential rematch. "It's not my position to slate or slag anyone off. I'm pretty sure that fight [Fury v Usyk] will happen because I feel like there could potentially be a method to the madness," Joshua told Steve Bunce on 5 Live Boxing. "If, number one, I was in that position [and] didn't take that fight, how would people treat me? "And number two, if I didn't take that fight what would Fury have to say about me? So I'm not going to stoop to that level. "I respect everyone that steps into the ring. But I just sometimes think some people should watch their mouths a bit."

Fury v Joshua: Tyson Fury claims to have 'sent contract' to Anthony Joshua over September fight..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8C62/production/_129883953_tysonfury.jpgWBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury says he wants to fight fellow Briton Anthony Joshua at Wembley in September and has sent him a contract. Fury, 34, has not fought since stopping Derek Chisora in the 10th round at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December. A fight with Oleksandr Usyk, the IBF, IBO, WBO and WBA champion, was expected to happen in 2023 but fell through. "A few days ago I sent a draft contract to Anthony Joshua for a fight in September at Wembley," Fury wrote. In a post on Instagram, Briton Fury added: "It's a fight everyone wants to see, including myself. "Come on AJ let's give the world what they want to see. This time I'm not going to make a million videos and keep putting pressure on. The ball is now on your side." A fight between Fury and two-time world champion Joshua, 33, has long been talked about, but never materialised. Fury set a deadline in September, which was not met, and said at the time: "It's officially over for Joshua. He is now out in the cold with the wolfpack. "Forget about it. Always knew you didn't have the minerals to fight the 'Gypsy King'." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1B1A/production/_129883960_anthonyjoshua.jpgUnbeaten Fury fought Chisora instead and afterwards faced-off with Usyk, who had been ringside, with a bout between the two lined up for Wembley on 29 April. However, Fury's promoter Frank Warren said in March that fight was off - and he "did not think" it would happen in the near future. Usyk, also unbeaten with 20 wins from 20 fights, had agreed a 70/30 purse split in Fury's favour with terms for a rematch the only outstanding issue. Joshua has twice lost to the 36-year-old Usyk, but then said Fury could "redeem himself from the circus" by agreeing to fight him. "There's no better time to get Fury in the ring than now because he needs me to redeem himself from this circus, this let-down," said Joshua. "He needs me so there's no better time than for him to call my name out and I'm someone that will take on any challenge." Fury has 33 wins and one draw from 34 bouts, while Joshua - who beat American Jermaine Franklin on points in London in April - has 25 wins and three defeats in his 28-fight professional career after winning Olympic gold as an amateur in 2012.
