Friday 27th January - The FA Cup 4th Round Result.
Manchester City 1 (Ake 64) Arsenal 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/E3DE/production/_128443385_gettyimages-1460074396.jpgManager Pep Guardiola called Nathan Ake an "exceptional guy" after he sent Manchester City into the FA Cup fifth round with the winning goal in a narrow victory over Premier League title rivals Arsenal. The Gunners have established an impressive lead in the league but it was City who shaded a tight contest thanks to Ake's precise 64th-minute finish after good work from Jack Grealish. Arsenal had chances of their own, especially in the first half when City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, deputising for Ederson, saved well from Takehiro Tomiyasu and new signing Leandro Trossard. There was little to choose between the sides and their Premier League battle will come into focus once more when they meet at Emirates Stadium on 15 February. "We were definitely better in the second half. Arsenal have taken a step forward. It was a tight game and you realise how good a side they are," Guardiola said. "What a season he [Ake] is playing. He controlled one of the toughest opponents in the Premier League because Bukayo Saka is in an incredible moment. He is really good in the duels in the box, defending the far post and set-pieces is an extra bonus. "He is an exceptional guy, there was a period where he didn't play and he never complained once. As a manager you want players like Nathan. He deserves all the good things in life." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/DCD6/production/_128443565_fngwm5xxwaioxyz.jpg

The FA Cup 4th Round Result..
Monday 30th January
Derby County 0 West Ham United 2ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/29AA/production/_128466601_hi081998210.jpgWest Ham secured a deserved win away to League One Derby at Pride Park to book an FA Cup fifth-round trip to Manchester United. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring after 10 minutes when he turned home a knockdown from Tomas Soucek. The England man then turned provider at the start of the second period when his cross deflected into the path of Michail Antonio to score his 67th goal for the club. It was the first time David Moyes' side had completed successive victories since October, following on from last weekend's crucial Premier League success against Everton. And it now pits Moyes against his former club in cup combat at Old Trafford for the third successive season, the Hammers winning in the EFL tournament last term after losing in the last 16 of the FA Cup the year before. The result marked the end of Derby's 14-match unbeaten run since they lost on penalties at Liverpool in November, although manager Paul Warne knows the main challenge for his side this season is to try and return to the Championship.

Sunderland 2 Fulham 3ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/BD7B/production/_128570584_gettyimages-1246897350.jpgFulham saw off Championship play-off hopefuls Sunderland to set up an FA Cup fifth-round tie against Leeds United. Harry Wilson's early goal put a much-changed Fulham side in control of the fourth-round replay, with the winger slotting his effort into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot after he was teed up by Carlos Vinícius. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andreas Pereira combined for Fulham's second goal just before the hour mark, when the Serbian striker did well to keep the ball in on the byline and touch it back for his fellow substitute to tap in. Sunderland were given hope of a comeback inside the final 15 minutes when Jack Clarke curled a superb strike into the far corner following a pass from Ajibola Alese. But Layvin Kurzawa re-established Fulham's two-goal lead in the 82nd minute, firing into the roof of the net following a knockdown from Shane Duffy. With stoppage time approaching, substitute Jewison Bennette coolly lifted into the corner from close range to cut the deficit, but the Black Cats fell short despite a valiant effort. Fulham boss Marco Silva, watching from the stands due to a touchline ban, said: "We've been working hard to reach this level and create a winning mentality. "I knew before the game that it wouldn't be the best, I made nine changes, but we are pleased."

FA Cup 5th Round - Wednesday 1st March - Results
Manchester United 3 (Aguerd 77 o.g, Garnacho 90, Fred 90+5) West Ham United 1 (Benrahama 54)Carabao Cup winners Manchester United came from a goal down to beat West Ham in a frantic finish at Old Trafford and book an FA Cup quarter-final tie with Fulham. Alejandro Garnacho curled in a 90th-minute strike past Alphonse Areola, before Fred steered in an injury-time third goal to put the hosts into the last eight and see off the battling Hammers. West Ham scored first early in the second half through Said Benrahma's powerfully-struck shot which flew into the top corner past David de Gea. United thought they had equalised through Casemiro's header - only for it to be ruled out for offside after a VAR check. But the home side did manage to equalise in the 77th minute when Nayef Aguerd, under pressure from Wout Weghorst, headed into his own net from Bruno Fernandes' excellent corner. However, Garnacho, who also scored a last-minute winner in United's 2-1 win over Fulham in November, was the Old Trafford hero with a fine finish to put his side ahead. Fred added a third with virtually the last kick of the game. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0BED/production/_128735030_saidbenrahma.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F265/production/_128735026_manchesterunited.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/2/946d870d-496d-4e28-928f-b148a5e87a67.jpg................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Southampton 1 (Caleta-Car 65) Grimsby Town 2 (Holohan 45+1 pen, 50 pen)It will go down as one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history.
League Two Grimsby Town - the lowest-ranked team left in the fifth round and a non-league side as recently as last season - stunned Premier League strugglers Southampton away from home to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in 84 years. Penalties either side of half-time from midfielder Gavan Holohan gave the Mariners a two-goal cushion and despite Saints defender Duje Caleta-Car scoring to set up an agonising finale for the visitors, they held on to spark wild celebrations among the Grimsby players, staff and 4,000 travelling supporters inside St Mary's. The Mariners can now look forward to a trip to European hopefuls Brighton in their first quarter-final since 1938-39, a year they went on to reach the semi-finals. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/2/b551d8d6-68fe-494a-9bc1-6891ee75854f.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/2/2ae67c6c-4e55-4f41-a9ab-02be44f9e6c7.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/2/7c74b950-bff0-476b-9c4d-169bf935c17e.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/02D2/production/_128822700_gettyimages-1247592473.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/2/c0b9e217-7193-40fb-9325-6b1b6ddd7cd7.jpgSouthampton boss Ruben Selles (above) on defeat by Grimsby in the FA Cup: "I am very disappointed with the performance and the result. "It's just difficult when you concede those type of penalties. It was not good enough from us. Both penalties were very, very frustrating. We should not allow that to happen." .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Burnley 1 (Roberts 90) Fleetwood Town 0 (Hayes red card 45+1)Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is looking forward to a "special day" after his side beat League One Fleetwood Town to set up an FA Cup quarter-final against his former club Manchester City. Connor Roberts' late winner booked Burnley's place in the last eight for the first time in 20 years. Wales international Roberts flicked home from close range in the last minute as Fleetwood had to play the second half with 10 men after Cian Hayes was sent off for a high challenge on Josh Cullen. "It's a double feeling," said Kompany after the Clarets were drawn against City. "My ties are extremely strong with [Manchester City], and that remains. "The kids will have a tough decision to make on the day, but it's one we are looking forward to. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/ED32/production/_128822706_gettyimages-1470588738.jpg................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ Sheffield United 1 (Ndiaye 79) Tottenham Hotspur 0Iliman Ndiaye scored a superb late winner as Championship side Sheffield United stunned Tottenham to progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. As the game looked to be heading to extra time, substitute Ndiaye weaved past a couple of defenders before beating Fraser Forster with a low strike at the near post. Tottenham assistant coach Cristian Stellini says there are no regrets about starting Harry Kane on the bench in Wednesday's surprise FA Cup fifth-round defeat by Championship side Sheffield United. Spurs made six changes for the game at Bramall Lane, with Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Lucas Moura in attack as Kane - the club's all-time top scorer - was named among the substitutes. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B8E4/production/_128823374_harrykane.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/3/2/402fcc7e-bf58-4715-bc7f-024838e7cb18.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/8BEE/production/_128822853_gettyimages-1470589918.jpg
