Also, think of all those people wanting to enjoy the weekend watching a close run game of test cricket, ahh well they can enjoy their back gardens now. Many of those fans would have got hotels booked up, train journeys mapped out and sightseeing tours arranged all at great cost. Ok thats sport, it is un-predictable, but not to have 3 complete days of cricket, in fact only 173 overs were bowled in those 3 days. Like i said a complete and utter shambles.

I got the impression that SA were looking at bowling a second innings on the strip, but seems they got ahead of themselves especially after a dismal first innings, when the game was virtually sealed by end of day one

England v South Africa - Thursday 8th September: Ben Stokes looking to cap 'great summer' at The Oval.Captain Ben Stokes says England can round off a "great summer" with a series-clinching victory over South Africa in the final Test at The Oval. England have won five of their six Tests under Stokes and new coach Brendon McCullum. Only once before have they won six or more Tests in a home summer - the seven wins under Michael Vaughan in 2004. "Even if you take away results, the way we have played the game has been the most satisfying thing," said Stokes. "We've changed the way in which England's Test cricket is viewed. We've captured the imagination of fans of cricket that have been around for years, and I feel like we might have gained some new fans as well." South Africa are without Rassie van der Dussen after the batter suffered a broken finger in the second Test. Ryan Rickelton comes in to the side to win his third cap. Elgar said the Proteas will make "one or two" other changes to their side, but the situation is complicated by the wet weather forecast. "There is definitely going to be a winner," said Elgar. "This is a World Cup final for us." Stokes also said England are open to altering their tactics if rain leaves them short of time to force a result. "With the weather about, if we do lose a few days, I know what I'll be trying to do," he said. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/CA8C/production/_126625815_benstokes.jpg

James Anderson & Stuart Broad eyeing Ashes, says Ben Stokes.Veteran pace bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad have "got their eyes set" on next summer's Ashes, according to England captain Ben Stokes. Both were dropped for England's tour of West Indies in March but returned to play a key part in Stokes' side winning five of their six Tests this summer. Broad will turn 37 during the Ashes, while Anderson will be almost 41. "I honestly just can't see a point where they decide it's time for them to step away," said Stokes. Anderson and Broad, England's all-time leading wicket-takers, will line-up for the deciding Test against South Africa at The Oval, beginning on Thursday. Anderson has taken 24 wickets at an average of 17.66 in Test cricket this summer, while Broad has 22 at 31.90. "Jimmy has come out and said how much fun he's had and Broady's influence in the dressing room is the best I've seen while playing with him over the years," added Stokes. "The conversations he has had not only with me but the other bowlers, how he wants to help them and stuff like that is something he's taken to another level." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1114A/production/_126626996_stuartbroadandjamesanderson.jpg

England v South Africa: Third Test to resume on Saturday. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13349/production/_126656687_gettyimages-1422194978.jpgDay two of the third Test was cancelled after the first day was washed out England's deciding Test against South Africa at the Kia Oval will resume as scheduled on Saturday following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Saturday will remain day three of a five-day Test, with the match not able to be extended to Tuesday. After day one was entirely washed out, day two of the third Test on Friday was cancelled as a mark of respect after the death of the Queen, aged 96. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have confirmed that all cricket will resume, including domestic and recreational fixtures. The ECB held discussions with Cricket South Africa about extending the Test to Tuesday. However, the South Africa players have to fly home as scheduled on Tuesday in order to spend a few days at home before heading on tour to India and Australia. The remaining days are still set to begin at 11:00 BST, with 98 overs scheduled for each day because of the time lost due to rain. The follow-on has also been reduced to 150 runs because of the washout on day one. A minute's silence will be observed before each match, followed by the national anthem. All players and coaches will wear black armbands to pay respect to the Queen. All tickets for days three to five remain valid, while day two ticket holders will be automatically refunded.
