What makes me a Gashead? - because your first taste of this magical game of football is walking to THAT ground with THAT smell, holding on to your Dads hand and witnessing THAT winger waltz round their fullback like he's standing still having been played in by a magician of a midfielder. - because you went as a family, discussed it as a family, learnt about the Tann era from your old man who told you tales of men in blue and white quartered shirts doing things with a football twice as heavy that sounded legendary in equipment that was archaic in comparison to what you were watching. - because you had something to share when your mates did not go but you did, relaying tales of 6-0 wins at Reading, 4-1 at Oldham, 5-0 at Oxford to people who were not there - spending all day getting there and getting back (home or away) when you have little hope of a result but getting one! - because they were my hometown club and every other kid in Wembley was supporting Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U or Liverpool - because they could even get my mum enthusiastic about football when she was made to go! 3-0 at Rotherham and 4-2 against Wrexham at Twerton. - because every other team is not MY Rovers Bet that winger wasn't worrell sterling or errington kelly It's quite possible that Wembley Gas was thinking of George Petherbridge or Harold Jarman, they would both fit the bill.

Harold Jarman ...and the midfielder was Wayne Jones. When I first watched the Rovers we weren't wearing quarters. We'd moved to Wembley 3 years before they returned...and I took a lot of stick for having the only oversized quartered gym kit in the school (in those days you had to grow into and out of your PE kit over 2-3 years before you got another one!...I was Warboys when I first had it flapping round my knees and David Williams by the time it wouldn't go over my head!)

Wayne Jones was a very good player Wembley, almost an unsung hero in fact but he did play in a team that had many players who would have more than excelled in today's team. Terrible shame about the premature end to his career, and at such a relatively young age too.

This has to be the most poorly written poll I've seen around here Well considering muppets have goggle eyes fuzzy felt faces and little stick arms that must make it difficult to hold a laptop or tablet and devise a poll at the same time we should be grateful he was interested enough to create the thread!

So why do you give your well earned cash, your loyalty and you leisure time to your "club" what makes you a gashead?
- because every other team is not MY Rovers Exactly that. Never, ever forget my first game. 1963, home to Colchester United and we won 3-1. Watching Wayne Jones play his first game, on the left wing, first time I saw a "drag back" as he danced past the full back who was kicking thin air. Harold Jarman get the ball in in space just beyond the halfway line, and the left back just fell over, I swear to god, he just fell over. The away games, Watford my first when Tony Currie made his debut and destroyed us. Light Ales in the back of the coach, pre M4, fell into a stream when we stopped for a slash. Barnsley away cup match under Olly, got thrashed but we drank a pub dry in town. Oxford away 5-0, calling mates to get to the ground cus it looked like a lock out. And so on. Barnet away this season, so many fans there on Tuesday night. Always.
