Liverpool have hit their wage ceiling in talks with Mo Salah over a new contract, and it likely won't be enough to convince the Egyptian forward to sign a new deal, according to reports.
Salah is said to want £400k per week in order to stay at Merseyside, double his current wages, and a figure that would bring him in line with Kevin De Bruyne as the second highest paid player in the Premier League, behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Egyptian, understandably, wants to be one of the best paid players in the division.
He has recently received the PFA Player of the Year award for the 2021/22 season, and is undisputedly one of the very best players in the league
Mo Salah’s current contract expires in 2023 and the Reds are keen to agree to an extension, as they fear losing one of the best players in the world on a free next summer otherwise.
However senior figures at the club are unwilling to compromise on their wage structure.
They believe the amount Salah is asking for would put him so far out of line with other star players (Van Dijk is currently Liverpool’s top paid player on £220,000 a week) that it could do more harm than good to the club.
The Egyptian has had a very successful time at Liverpool since joining the club in 2017 for £37m. He's scored 118 goals in just 180 games and has won the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his spell on Merseyside.

Poor Mo Salah. I really feel for him, sounds like he's being treated absolutely abominably. How can he be expected to survive on wages of just £10mil a year? There's a cost of living crisis, don't you know. The thought of the premiersh*t and it's over-paid mercenaries repulses me.

He is asking for £20.8m a year, he will also get many more millions for other related deals. Poor Virgil Van Dijk is only on £11.5m, how will he feel about this if it is granted ?

To be fair, Salah does spend a lot of money on his home village in Egypt. He has funded the building of a Hospital there, plus Ambulances to go with it. I only know those basic details so in fact there may be much more.

Mohamed Salah has signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool.
BBC Sport understands the deal - worth more than £350,000-a-week - makes the 30-year-old the highest paid player in the club's history.
The Egypt forward only had a year left on his previous deal and there had been doubts about whether he would stay.
"It's the best decision for us and best decision for him. He belongs with us I think. This is his club now," said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
"This is a special treat for our supporters to enjoy their weekend even more. I'm sure there will be some celebrations for this news tonight."
Salah has scored 156 goals in 254 appearances during his five years at Anfield since moving from Roma.
He said: "I feel great and I am excited to win trophies with the club. It's a happy day for everyone. We are in a good position to fight for everything."

Great news for Mo Salah's village. Apparently he plans to build a heliport and an Olympic sized swimming pool.

May be wrong but that Sadio Mane has left for Bayern Munich may have helped Salah decide to sign given at one point he was holding out for £400k but has settled for only £350k per week. How will he cope? Times are hard.😉
