A thoroughly decent man and a thoroughly decent manager. The very best of luck to DC, whoever he manages in the future.

Agree with that Epping. Although he was great for us come the end I thought he was losing the plot and overthinking things too much. I’m of a mind that you should always move forward not back so would not want him back. Wish him every success wherever he goes apart from when against us

David Flitcroft seems to be getting both barrels from Vale supporters. The feeling was DC wasn't really backed in Janaury with them only signing two loanees. It's always quite fun reading the forums when something like this happens though. It almost always comes back to a would you have him back debate. Gasheads and football fans generally rarely can be bothered to look outside their little bubble.

Rovers seem to have a history of appointing former managers.
Gerry the Badger and Wardy spring to mind. Any others I've missed?

I think we have a decent chance of challenging for promotion over the next few seasons with Joe.
I think that would be less likely with Darrell.
We have a very good and dare I say professional set up at Rovers ,in these Joe Barton days.

I guess you could use that argument to support Tisdale, the truth seems to be that the money was there but Tisdale failed to spend it, perhaps that was really the case at PV. Although I can never understand why football clubs are like revolving doors every transfer window.

Bristol Rovers legend Darrell Clarke leads tributes in support of former Gas captain Tom Lockyer..by Daniel Hargraves.i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/article2734822.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_JMP_Coventry_City_v_Bristol_Rovers_RS_126JPG.jpgFormer Bristol Rovers manager and Gas legend Darrell Clarke has led tributes to former Rovers captain Tom Lockyer after the Luton Town centre-back suffered a cardiac arrest during the Hatters' Premier League match at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. Lockyer, who made just shy of 300 appearances for the Gas between 2012 and 2019, has received widespread support after collapsing at the Vitality Stadium which led to players being taken off of the pitch while the Welshman received treatment before the game was eventually abandoned. Luton's latest statement at the time of writing on Lockyer's condition was released on Sunday afternoon which confirmed that the Hatters captain is "still undergoing tests and scans, and is awaiting the results before the next steps for his recovery are determined." The former Rovers favourite was managed by another modern club legend in Clarke between 2014 and 2018 which saw the Gas secure back-to-back promotions from the Conference to League One before establishment in the third tier. Taking to LinkedIn, Lockyer's former manager wrote: "Sending all my prayers and love to Tom Lockyer my captain at Bristol Rovers. "Managed a lot of players in my time as Manager but Tom was no doubt the best professional I have managed. A true leader and gentleman. "Stay Strong Tom." Bristol Rovers also sent their best wishes to Lockyer on their social media channels, saying: "Praying for you, Tom" while Gas CEO Tom Gorringe also took to X to write: "The euphoria of yesterdays win was dampened when we heard the news post-match. Thinking of Locks and his family and wishing you a speedy recovery my mate." The entire football world have sent tributes to Lockyer and his family, whose privacy was asked to be respected at this time by Luton. An abundance of high profile figures in the game have taken to social media to send their best wishes as have an array of clubs as everyone keeps their fingers crossed for him. Match of the Day host Garry Lineker said at the start of Saturday's programme: “It goes without saying that everyone here at Match of the Day sends their thoughts and best wishes to his family and anyone connected to Luton Town." Former England captain John Terry took to social media platform X, writing: "Praying for Tom Lockyer" while Luton's opponents Bournemouth said: “We’re relieved to hear Tom is responsive. Our thoughts will continue to be with Tom and his family at this time. We’d like to thank all the medical staff for their quick action as well as everyone inside the stadium for their support and unity during a difficult moment.”

What Bristol Rovers can expect from Barnsley and Gas favourite Darrell Clarke this weekend...By Daniel Hargraves
Bristol Rovers face another long, tough away trip this weekend as they face Barnsley in one of few League One matches not postponed for internationals
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9532036.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-2168267383.jpg Bristol Rovers legend Darrell Clarke took charge of Barnsley over the summerIn what has become a bit of a rarity for Bristol Rovers, the Gas are playing on during an international break this weekend as they face Barnsley, having had all four of their matches which clashed with players going on duty for their nations last season postponed. That created a significantly congested schedule to close out last term which evidently didn't benefit Rovers in the slightest as it coincided with a poor run of form. It wouldn't be surprising if, behind the scenes, Matt Taylor and co. are actually rather relieved the game is going ahead. As will be repeatedly said throughout the course of this campaign, every game in League One is a challenge but a trip to Barnsley adds to the particularly tough schedule on the road Rovers have been handed to start the season with. The Tykes were play-off semi-finalists last term, losing out to Bolton Wanderers and were defeated by Sheffield Wednesday in the final the season prior. One of eight ex-Premier League clubs in League One, the Yorkshire outfit are always one associated with the promotion chasers but with a new man in the dugout, one who's very familiar to Gasheads in Darrell Clarke, still getting his ideas across and this being matchday five, you wouldn't be raising eyebrows by saying this could be a good time to make the trip up to Oakwell. Last campaign's game at Barnsley was one of many frustrating afternoons for the Gas as numerous chances were squandered in a 2-1 defeat. Oakwell is also a ground that Rovers traditionally have a very poor record at, losing the last five visits with their most recent win coming way back in 1991. However, there's no reason for Taylor's men to see Saturday's game as a daunting prospect on the back of what has been a solid start to the new season. Seven points from four games with three clean sheets is a tally the vast majority of those associated with the club would have taken prior to a ball being kicked. Away from home, Rovers held on to a goalless draw at Rotherham thanks to some outstanding goalkeeping from Josh Griffiths and started brightly at Stockport County before going on to lose 2-0. The Gas will make their third long trip north of the season already without midfielder Kamil Conteh, who has been terrific so far, due to his involvement with Sierra Leone while defender Michael Forbes is away with Northern Ireland Under-21s. But what can they expect from a Barnsley side who have also taken seven points from four games? Bristol Live spoke to the Barnsley Chronicle's sports editor Doug O'Kane to get the lowdown on all things Reds ahead of this weekend's clash...
How would you assess Barnsley's start to the season so far?Seven points from four games is a reasonable platform from the first month, especially considering they have been very low on strikers until the final day of the window. Their performances have been up and down but the best have been in the last two games as they beat local rivals Sheffield United in the League Cup then outclassed Crawley Town in the league on Saturday. Darrell Clarke is very much a Bristol Rovers legend, how has he settled into the job so far?He seems to be popular with the fans and players. His straight-talking and honest approach is appreciated by the supporters. So far he’s looked like a tactically astute coach whose changes have made a difference in games. How do you see the game going and what is your prediction?Barnsley need to win this game. They have not won at home in the league since February, a run of eight matches. Ending that would build on the positivity of recent results, drawing Manchester United in the EFL Cup and a good end to the window. I expect it to be difficult but I will say 2-1 to the Reds.

Former Bristol Rovers manager makes top six point ahead of facing Gas with Barnsley this weekend..By Daniel Hargraves
Bristol Rovers legend Darrell Clarke will be in the opposite dugout this weekend after becoming Barnsley head coach over the summer
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9534761.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-2166379167.jpg Bristol Rovers legend Darrell Clarke became Barnsley head coach over the summerFormer Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke has claimed that he believes the Gas have ambitions to push for the top six this year ahead of his Barnsley side's meeting with Rovers at Oakwell on Saturday. Clarke took charge of the Reds over the summer after leaving Cheltenham Town following the Robins' relegation to League Two and has overseen an identical start to Matt Taylor's side in regards to points, taking seven from their opening quartet of League One matches. The Tykes have also enjoyed Carabao Cup victories over Wigan Athletic and Sheffield United which has set up a mammoth away tie at Manchester United in the third round later this month. Having spent almost five years in BS7, guiding the Gas to back-to-back promotions from the Conference to League One as manager in 2015 and 2016, Clarke is very much regarded as a Rovers legend and, despite facing his former side as an opposition manager on a number of occasions since his departure in 2018 with the likes of Port Vale and Cheltenham, the former Rovers boss still withholds great affection for the club. "They've had a solid start to the season," Clarke told local media ahead of this weekend's clash. "They've invested heavily in the squad. They've got a talented manager. They've got a good group of players and I think they've got ambitions to be in the top six this year with the resources they've been given and got. It's a different club to the one I left. It has a new training base, the stadium has been upgraded, the budget is a hell of a lot higher by the looks of things. "They're a club that's ambitious that wants to get to the Championship like 14, 15 clubs in this division. I had a great nearly five years there, made some great memories. I love the Gasheads, I've got a great relationship with them but they'll also know me well enough to know that I want to win the game. I'm really enjoying my time here and there's nobody that wants to win more on Saturday than myself. "I don't think there is, to be honest with you," the 46-year-old added when asked if anyone at Rovers from his time is still there. "I think it's evolved. New ownership came in over the last year and a half, I think it is. They've made big investments into the football club so it's all change which tends to happen in football." In terms of the recruitment Clarke referred to, the Gas recruited 16 new players during the summer transfer window, the majority of which are particularly young talents with high potential. Rovers are still very much in the infancy of what is a work in progress as Taylor looks to gel this new-look outfit together but they head to Oakwell with confidence on the back of a solid start which has seen home wins over Northampton Town and Cambridge United alongside a goalless draw at Rotherham United and a 2-0 defeat at Stockport County. Three clean sheets in four games has also been welcome considering how leaky the Gas were at the back last term but they will be particularly keen to pick up a first win on the road. Due to international call-ups throughout League One, Saturday's game in South Yorkshire is one of just three games that have avoided postponements and on the fixture Clarke declared: "It's going to be a challenge. Like I said, they've got a talented squad of players, they've invested in that and they're a team that I think will fancy their chances of getting into the top six this season. I think that's their ambition there. "So it's going to be a challenging game but the focus on ourselves, we appreciate what their strengths are but we've hit a bit of rhythm and we want to continue that rhythm and continue improving performances. That has to be our sole focus."
