The Gas win a highly entertaining six-goal match in dramatic fashion. Rochdale gave a good account of themselves and will be disappointed not to have got something from the match. In truth, this should have been a comfortable win for The Gas, who were excellent at times. The first half started brightly with Rochdale creating the early chances, forcing Belshaw into making another one of his customary one-on-one saves. By the tenth minute, though, Bristol Rovers began to exert pressure and were rewarded by a free kick in a central position just outside the box after some fine footwork by Aaron Collins. Anthony Evans stepped up and calmly placed the free kick in the top right corner, sparking a Gas explosion. A beautiful finish and the perfect way to start the game! The remainder of the first half was all Bristol Rovers, and we really should have been two or three goals up at the break. It was only 1-0 though, and Rochdale were still in the game. Really enjoyable first half, lots of goal action. very positive performance. They only thing missing was the second or third goal to finish Rochdale off. We really do need to take advantage of periods where we dominate. Bristol Rovers got the crucial second goal after 51 minutes, with a trademark Aaron Collins strike from outside the area. The move began down the left side, with Collins running at the Rochdale defence. he jinked inside and let fly with a stunning curved shot to the Rochdale top right corner. Their goalkeeper had no chance. At this point, The Gas were cruising and looking like taking all three points in emphatic style. Rochdale, though, had other ideas and sprung to life. The remainder of the second half was a much more even affair, with Rochdale having a lot of possession and creating wave after wave of attack. Why they waited until they were two goals down before attacking is beyond me, they looked really dangerous. Belshaw once again played his part with a series of excellent saves, including a wonder goal line save on 55 minutes. I seem to say this every week, he is an excellent keeper. Rochdale stuck on the hour mark with a soft goal, from a cross on the right side. The Rochdale attacker pulled off a cheeky flick from two yards with his right foot as the ball passed behind him. Belshaw had no chance and it was game on again. Five minutes later the unthinkable happened and the game was level, following a penalty to Rochdale. The foul was on the left side of the box, on the other side of the pitch from me. From my viewpoint it did look like a penalty. Just a badly timed tackle. For the next fifteen minutes, it was all Rochdale and there was only one side looking like winning the game, and it was not us. We were sitting deep, inviting Rochdale on to us and failing to keep possession during a worrying scrappy period of the game. With the game entering the final stages, I was starting to think about writing how another two points have been dropped, so typical of this season, etc, when the game exploded into life again. Two goals in five minutes from Harry Anderson and Aaron Collins turned a sour point into a happy days victory! Amazing scenes at the North Terrace end with what I assume was Aaron Collins being lifted onto some Gashead’s shoulders. Happy days indeed! I really like the look of Collins and Nicolson up front, with Evans just behind. They press, are mobile and work well together. Coutts and Whelen were solid in the centre of midfield. Our new-look defense struggled at times, although I like Luca Hoole a lot and thought he did well at times. The Gas go home happy in the end, we sure do like to make life difficult for ourselves! Today’s win takes us up to 15th position in the table, seven points off the playoffs. I think this is a very fair summary. Taylor was superb in the first half and didn’t give their striker a kick. I did think he was running awkwardly and I was apprehensive when he didn’t appear for the 2nd half. A baptism of fire for Martinez and he had a tough battle against that big, strong fast striker who had a lot more luck in the 2nd period. If we really are looking to sign a forward in January, the club ought to go all out and test Rochdale's resolve. It would probably cost a pretty penny, but you can’t always get that type of player for nothing, and would give us a good boost for the final part of the season. Sitting towards the rear of the East stand I have a fine view across to central and East Bristol. Others have mentioned it, but what an incredible colour the Sky turned for a few minutes second half. As the game wore on more and more of the city became obscured with mist then suddenly this wondrous pink pastel haze spread across the heavens. beutiful!

The weird thing about today was how Rochdale resembled Rovers performances for much of the season. After causing us chaos for the 1st 10mins by exploiting our flanks, we then managed to put a hold on that and then started doing it to them, we basically did to them what sides have been doing to us time and time again all season.
Then at the beginning of the 2nd half Dale kept losing position when trying to pass it out of the back, another Rovers trait.

Great to see Collins hitting form with another stunner followed by a nice strikers finish. He can kick on from here

All things considered this has to go down as 'a good day at the office'. A sleepy start saw Dale - an honest team - create 2 or 3 chances. Then for the rest of the first half I thought we played pretty well. Evan's free kick goal was superb. As it comes yo me ead.... Anderson had a good game at right wing back.Deserved his goal. Collins is well into good form, another brilliant rocket shot. Belshaw made a couple of good saves. We missed Taylor in the 2nd half, fingers crossed he's okay. Luke Thomas had a cameo role.He played very well and ran his heart out.Very good.Take note JB critics! (i) Joe still went for it with attacking substitutions just after we went 3 2 up. (ii) Gasheads sang loud and proud! Very happy with the win.Our squad strength was tested again today and we came through it with flying colours. (i) I have no idea what you are trying to say here with 'Take note JB critics!'. I don't recall any 'JB critics' saying Luke Thomas wasn't very good. Personally I've always thought he has impressed every time I've seen him play, and am just surprised and disappointed he hasn't been given more game time. Again on Saturday, he wasn't brought on until the 86th minute. (ii) Yes, the substitutions were made after we'd gone 3-2 up, but they were lined up to be made before our 3rd goal - the players were ready to come on and waiting at the edge of the pitch for the ball to go out of play. The crowd had been pressing for substitutions to be made with 20 minutes to go, but JB waited until just 4 minutes to go before doing anything. If anyone looked likely to get a 3rd it was Rochdale, but we suddenly got a goal out of nothing (excellent move), and JB got away with it.

I think the point on Luke Thomas is that he played well despite the public criticism

I`m sure that Mr TWD was convinced that God was trying to tell us something. If only we were intelligent enough to be able to understand.

A lot of the goals came against the run of play. At 2-0 up, we looked like overrunning them completely. Then suddenly, they got a goal out of nothing ( excellent move ). Don`t think JB got away with it ( not this time ). Thought we were worthy winners over the 90 minutes.

I think the point on Luke Thomas is that he played well despite the public criticism That's JB's public criticism of him, rather than the public's criticism I take it The 'public' on here have criticised JB's criticism. I still think they're right

That's how I took it: public criticism by the manager, not criticism by the public.

I noticed that RaRaRandal was a guest of T Gorringe at the game, ( he has posted on FB) thoroughly enjoyed it all and the " love in" that still applies to him at the Rovers

Really Concept,"no idea" what I meant by pointing out Luke Thomas played well and gave 100%. I'm surprised because just a couple of weeks ago you were lambasting JB for publicly criticising LT."Mental health" issues,"character assassination" etc. So,quite clearly,Luke Thomas has not been broken by his Boss's critique. In the scenario Luke continues to put that much effort in,we'll have a great player and Joe's man management skills will be looking spot on.

Excellent match where both attacks were on top for large parts.
Press from the front and we look a different team.
I thought that Rochdale were going to win it when it got to 2-2.
I was frustrated with lack of subs midway through second-half. Clarke was out on his feet and we needed to strengthen central defence.
Highlights in game.
Collins's brilliant goal and somersault in front of me in Thatcher's End - normally I stand on East Terrace.
The pitch invasion after the 4th was fantastic. I saw about 10 stewards leave with 5 minutes to go and the kids simply opened the gate and ran on after we scored. I hope we make a promotional video of it, as that is what football should be about. Unbridled passion.

Unbridled Passion.Love it.Thank goodness no VAR as in the Prem that moment of ecstasy is diluted with waiting for the VAR verdict. On an entirely different tangent ,will we ever see Rodman or Anssi again?
