It’s funny how people see it as i remember certain people would go because of the violence. ' Some men just like the fight ' I didn’t so much like the fight but the meetings pre match and the planning out, i was just that bit too young to be a part of it but i used to watch out for the boys. I remember having to make a pledge, in the place behind the Tote end, that i would never run or, if i did, that i would feel the wrath of our boys. Looking back on it, it was probably done as a laugh but i do remember some big games and some larger followings coming over the bridge, after the game, to have a pop at the tote . I mean the bridge that went over the river, to the rear of the Tote end. One i vividly remember was Plymouth and they had a fair few hundreds, maybe even a thousand either over that bridge or on it, the gates opened and i was right at the front of it all. Saw bins being chucked through windows, bits of timber being used as weapons and loads going into the, what must have been freezing water. It was a night match. I would have had Portsmouth but the team we played definitely had green and black stripes

We were pretty sure that they weren`t all planning an immediate return to SW6.

My favourite memory was the reds having a mob of around 100-150 and armed with metal bars but, instead of coming at the rovers with them in hand, they chucked them and then our, smaller lot were weaponised and gave them a proper send off. Funny the stuff you remember as a youngster. I remember bricking it making the same journey and against the same team, when we would have a Glos cup final. They would always pack out the muller road end

They weren't, I and some of the other South Bristol faithfull had a taxi to the game from The Yeoman, we asked the taxi driver if he would pick us up at around ten to five outside the Black Swan to take us back south of the river. We were literally running at full pelt trying to get away from the baying mob of Londoners who were hot in pursuit and all the while praying that the taxi would be there ! Luckily the driver was good to his word and when he saw us being chased he opened his doors and we jumped in as he was screeching away. Needless to say once in the reletive safety of the back seat of the cab the Chelsea boys got the full on two fingered send off !

I agree 100%
I can't think of a worse place to travel to.
With a new railway station being built for the new Bristol arena, I would of thought catching a train from there to temple meads would make travelling pretty easy for people from Patchway, Southmead Henbury etc areas. They are also building a new £12m Station on the Henbury/Brentry Boarder at the bottom of cribbs causeway so only 10 minute walk for me !. The problem comes if they ever build the "Stadium" i will be pushing a Zimmer about so won't bother going !

20,000 ? I first went to Eastville in 1967 and I can only remember one league match with a (just over) 20,000 crowd and that was a local derby, I might be remembering incorrectly so if anyone can put me right I would appreciate it. IF (and I dont think that it will for a few reasons) this stadium were to be built I doubt that it would be more than 12,500. If it were to be only 12,500 then there is no point moving. Any club that is from the city the size of ours and has a following that takes 40k to Wembley needs a stadium that is at the minimum 20k to begin with due to our potential. Just because we only get 7k - 10k at the Mem in this past era does not mean that with a new stadium and a level of success that we couldn't fill 20k one day. 40K saw a fair few from all over the city and even some reds who came along and it was a good while ago and before the revamp of Ashton gate. I think it was very important who got their stadium first and i now see plenty of kids with their city shirts on we have lost the chance of getting the younger generation to start following us. I think that we will notice this within the next five years. We are all getting older and if you look at any of the photos that are taken at the mem, you can see the huge gulf between our clubs average age versus the 82. We really needed to get there first, im hoping im proved wrong but we now have families that are split, the parents being gas and the kids being reds

This is a city with a half million population and a further couple of hundred thousand with all the people who live in Downend, Kingswood, Staple Hill, Filton, Patchway etc etc. There are suburbs of Bristol with bigger pops than some of the smaller Northern and Midlands towns. I swallowed my pride and went with 7 mates in a minibus to watch the s**t lose to Mansfield in the LD cup, and I was the only Bristol football fan amongst us. The fact remains that if we got a new stadium and started to get some success people would soon start to follow us. We'd have no problem filling a 20k stadium. I was surprised at how many younger people in a decent away following were at Peterborough yesterday, no evidence of an ageing fan base as all those youngsters would have had a more attractive proposition in the s**t from an early age.

Going by stands , you can see that the thatchers terrace is where they go. Just look at photos from match days

Well it's The Memorial Ground! Makes sense really, not sure why it's taken so much time and money to come to that conclusion though. The only thing I would say is didn't the new owner talk of the "untapped potential" and potential massive fanbase of the club but now he's saying it will be difficult to get more than 17,000 capacity at the mem site. I guess we would have to move later if we ever did make the big time.

With three sides being developed ( suggested)at the moment is there potential to make the Thatchers end a two tier stand, room behind that would not impede on the neighbours?
