Found a fascinating video of this match on Youtube. February 1962, Leyton Orient, who reached the top division at the end of that season, against Rovers, who were eventually relegated at the end of that season. Features Jarman, Bobby Jones, Norman Sykes, Keith Williams, Geoff Bradford at right back, played on a diabolical muddy pitch. The match is about 10 minutes long, Kenneth Wolstenhome is the commentator, pre Match of the Day, Saturday night football special. I would post it, but don’t have the skills to do so it on the forum, unfortunately. Could anyone post it for me? Old timers will enjoy it, we even won!

I enjoyed that.
Horrible pitch but some great skill shown especially from Harold Jarman and what a winner. Radford was superb in goal and the travelling support made themselves heard. UTG

Outstanding!, what a great find, great skills shown by both sets of players on a bog of a pitch.

Great video, thanks for posting.
I started going to Eastville in the mid 60's so some of those players were still around. Jarman, Bobby Jones even Ray Mabbutt. Great players, standout people.

Fantastic
Kenneth Wolstenholme pre-MOTD era.
Great footage
Unfortunately, Orient went up that season with Shanks' Liverpool and Rovers went down.

That was a good two points for The Rovers, loved the camera position.

Thinking of the Rovers Stalwarts,I remember em' all.Sadly today Alfie Kilgour is the only one with blue blood in his veins.People like ;Samson ,Biggs,Bradford,Jarman,Meyer,Watling,Hooper,Mabbutt,Hamilton and Petherbridge had Rovers in their DNA which is so different to today's anonymous journeymen.

My first seaso watching Rovers -- And great to see Leyton Orient playing in Blue. Orient played in blue from 1945 to 1967. Then they chose the colour of manu, 1982fc, satan and all his little wizards. And they've struggled ever since.

I found that video a very interesting watch. Ray Mabbutt wasnt the tallest player but he got up well for headers,I think that he played in most positions for Rovers over the years,a great player as were his sons.
A lot of pitches were muddy like that in the 60s/70s,lack of drainage, but the players seemed to be able to keep the ball on the floor more than they do now, they could run with ball and pass accurately too. I know that players are faster (without the ball) and stronger now thanks to improved training and diet but they seem to get injured more and I wonder if thats due to flatter faster pitches that are watered too much.
I didnt know that Orient played in blue so I learnt something new too,I remember going to Orient a few times in the 70s and them wearing a white home kit with two red bands going down the front of the shirts, looked like they were wearing braces to hold their shorts up,very strange.

One of the first games I watched, Ray Mabbutt was marking John Atyeo at Ashton Gate. The original Little and Large! Really enjoyed the video of the Leyton Orient match, reminded me of how different things were back then. Will be showing the grandson next time he's visiting.
