These are 20 of my favourite all time tracks. They have been whittled down by picking 10 out of 100 of my Spotify playlist (2,000) and then one of those 10 x 20. It's simpler than it sounds but some of my favourite songs are missing because they are beaten by some world beaters. E.g. Heroes by Bowie and Wonderwall by Oasis.
Here for you to judge and give your opinion are my 20 in alphabetical order.
I'd be interested to know your top 1 or 5.
Number 1 of all time is Ashes to Ashes just to put it out there. Trying to put this lot in order after that is impossible for me.
This 20 sums up my taste more than any other list of songs.
🙂
505 - Arctic Monkeys Ashes to Ashes - Bowie Champagne Supernova - Oasis Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis Enjoy The Silence - Depeche Mode Five Years - Bowie Hey Jude - Beatles Imagine - Lennon Life On Mars - Bowie Magic Pie - Oasis Mr Blue Sky - ELO Night Boat To Cairo - Madness Piledriver Waltz - Arctic Monkeys Rise and Fall - Madness Sound and Vision - Bowie Strawberry Fields Forever - Beatles Together in Electric Dreams - Phil Oakey etc Vienna - Ultravox Who are You - The Who Young Americans - Bowie

I think 'favourite' lists of singles are almost impossible... depends on your mood / time of the day etc etc. Constantly shifting. I'd struggle to list my top 20 albums. Though to be honest there haven't been many contestants in the last 20 years.

So today my favourite song is Autumn Almanac by the Kinks. In my head as I'm cycling through the Essex countryside. Perfection at this time of year. "From the dew-soaked hedge creeps a crawly caterpillar When the dawn begins to crack. It's all part of my autumn almanac. Breeze blows leaves of a musty-coloured yellow So I sweep them in my sack. Yes, yes, yes, it's my autumn almanac". Another 'game' - without being too maudlin... is to pick the 3 songs you would want played at your own funeral. So they have to be your favourites and also define you as a person. Over to you...

Difficult. I'm Outta Time by Oasis Gotta be a Bowie one there, possibly Heroes or Life on Mars. Then maybe Xanadu as a guilty pleasure and really does sum up me. Or Mr Blue Sky. Or Hey Jude. Oh dear, so tough

Not a single, but this is definitely one of my all time favourites - and a far better way of passing 90 minutes than following Rovers atm. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0010kk0

Help is one of the greatest songs ever written. How the dark, depressed tone of the lyric is not matched by the melody, also I love the backing vocal beating the main singer to the lyric, it's never been done since, so clever. It was also how John felt at the time. A true classic, a great album too.

I like a few of them. Pistols make number 1 above your rock bands and songs.Interesting. I was lucky enough with my last band to support the Buzzcocks, at Delemont,Switzerland.Nice chap Pete Shelley and as I walked to the merchandise stand the bass player told me he knew I was English ,"by the way you hold your pint"! 🙂A very proud moment for me.

I wrote out my top 30 songs of all time but then I realised they were all by Radiohead so I must be in that sort of mood.
Funeral Songs Remember Me by [British] Sea Power Creep (Very 2021 Remix) by Thom Yorke (ft Radiohead) On Fire by Sebadoh

I liked the punk scene, to an extent, and saw Siouxsie and the Banshees in concert at Hammersmith in the early 80s and the Sex Pistols in Brixton in 2007. The Jam were probably my favourite group and again saw them in Hammersmith in the 80s. My first date with my wife was to get tickets for U2 at Earls Court (best live concert I've seen) which went down well as she's Irish! Since moving to France we went to Paris to see Fleetwood Mac. (Excellent live) Very difficult task to name your top 20 as The Jam could fill that.
