Paris Cowan-Hall played against Rovers for Wycombe at the Memorial Stadium in October 2013. (The game in which Clarkson got sent off). He was substituted after 76 minutes, replaced by Jon-Paul Pittman. Remember him?
He also played for Plymouth at Rovers on New Year's Day, 2013. Rovers won 2-1.

The reason the linesman didn't give off side for the first goal was that he was about 2 yards in front of play by the corner flag looking at completely the wrong angle, it was a shocking decision. I would be the first to criticise the officials for getting a decision wrong that harmed Rovers. But the video of the first goal clearly shows that Tom Parkes is a yard goal-side of their scorer, Murphy. Unfortunately, he's also about four yards away from him. In the ground, at the time, I stood on the terracing near the corner flag, so didn't have the best view of the move. I was hoping that the linesman would raise his flag, as much as anything to provide an explanation for the amount of space the Crawley striker found in our penalty area. The video makes it clear that the linesman got that important decision right. Pause on 14 seconds after the adverts
To end on a positive description of Rovers' performance in responding to the nightmare start, the word I overheard on the station platform after the game was "heartening". I'd agree with that.

In the 1970's, the NASL (North American Soccer League) gained some momentum, attracting George Best, Pele, Graham Day and others.
At the same time, back in the UK, crowd numbers had dropped to low levels (compared to the post-War peaks). Rodney Marsh commented that football in England was "a grey game, played on grey days for grey people".
Pundits noticed how the Americans applied their well-known gift for razzmatazz to promote "soccer" - it's a kick in the grass, don't you know.
So some clubs tried to introduce something similar over here.
For Rovers, this started - and finished, I think - on 15th October 1977. A new extrovert announcer took over the microphone from Ray Kendall, and had the brief to yell into it after significant moments in the game. It just so happened that on this day, Rovers debutant Bobby Gould decided to score a hat-trick in the four-one victory against Blackburn.
After each goal, with increasing passion, came "Scorer for Rovers - Bawwwbbbyyyyy Goooooulllldddddd!!!!!"
The next game was Tottenham, away...
Back at Eastville, Ray Kendall returned for the Southampton match, and the razzmatazz was never seen again.

Tesco's is my nearest supermarket. The staff are friendly and I can normally get what I want. I used to go to Sainsbury's only if Tesco's were out of stock on something I needed. But not now.
Every little helps...or does it?
At the beginning of the court hearing in the summer, one of Sainsbury's team said that they were mindful of the reputational damage which could arise through the case.
They must be delighted that we've been so even-handed in our response to the judge's conclusion.
Even the MP said "I have been stunned at the way Sainsbury’s have behaved and its conduct through this. And I certainly will not be shopping at Sainsbury’s for a very long time".

Also noticed that the two games played today were reasonable results for us. Orient managed to lose against Hartlepool. The other one was a draw so completing a reasonable weekend of results. Yes, two decent results. But if Hartlepool had managed to win 5:1 instead of 3:1, we would have gone up a place (into the top 7, with a game in hand on most around us).

One of the refs on the forum can correct me if things have changed in the last decade or so, but the law always used to say that if you put your head in low then you are the one that gets penalised for dangerous play (by an indirect free kick, if I remember correctly).
The free kick should have gone to Rovers!
Lee Brown, Mark McChrystal and Tom Parkes all "took one for the team" to halt potential Carlisle counter-attacks. That's a tactic we see at all levels, right up to the top echelons of world football. So I have no problem with the ref showing them yellow cards.
I found it incredible, though, that he kept his card in his pocket for all of the 12 fouls (BBC stat) which the Cumbrians committed.

Tenuous? Yeh, maybe! But many squads these days turn up to the Mem and I don't recognise any of the names. So to see five that immediately resonated I thought was worthy of comment. The stats won't show Balanta's penalty. I hope we don't forget that contribution, though. (Also his great through ball for Blissett to score against Welling). The Asamoah story is quite interesting: Only three months after our win at Wembley in 2007, BBC reported: "Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters has slammed Derek Asamoah after the striker secured a £50,000 move to Nice. The 26-year-old has joined the French top flight club on a three-year deal, with Peters claiming Asamoah had a trial without his knowledge. He told the club's website: "It's a sorry end to a saga I haven't enjoyed. I would have loved to see Derek leave with our blessing as a hero. "But he's probably gone in a manner that fits his selfishness." Asamoah's Cloak and Dagger departure from Shrews

Five Rovers connections with the current Carlisle United: Keith Curle (manager) scored four goals for Rovers in 32 appearances between 1981 and 1983. I remember him as a winger, but he completed his playing career at nine other clubs as a defender. He also played three times for England. Angelo Balanta. Wiki shows that he scored one goal for Rovers in sixteen appearances. That must be the dramatic stoppage-time winner against Barnet, a year ago. The other goal, at Wembley in the shoot-out, obviously didn't count! Derek Asamoah was Shrewsbury's most potent attacking threat in our other appearance at Wembley this millennium. In the eight years since that game, he's been at Nice, Hamilton Academical, Lokomotiv Sofia, Pohang Steelers and Daegu (South Korea), before joining Carlisle in 2014. He's scored 6 goals for them this season. In Darrell Clarke's first away game as Rovers manager, Hallam Hope (whilst on loan from Everton) put Bury one-nil up after only three minutes. Jabo Ibehre is Carlisle's top scorer this season so far with 10 goals in all competitions. He's been out recently, with a hamstring injury, but is likely to return today. Picture shows him celebrating after scoring for Leyton Orient against Bristol Rovers on the final day of the 2007/08 season.

Says I don't have permission to use it Me neither fella. We are probably both on some High Court blacklist If you just type casetracker.justice.gov.uk into your browser, then enter 20152702 as the case number and click search, the system should find the case. Then click again on the case number for the details.

From the Southend United official site:
Boss pleased with progress in JPT after win against the Gas at Roots Hall.
Southend United boss Phil Brown praised the mentality of his side as the Blues progressed into the semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 1-0 win at home to Bristol Rovers.
But the manager also admitted it was a tricky test against Darrell Clarke's men, despite John White netting an early winner at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.
“It was hard work and what a good side they are,” Brown began after the game.
“I think that's their second away defeat in something like 29 or 30 games.
“The mentality was right and it started from the likes of Adam Barrett and Adam Thompson. It was a risk in playing two centre backs who haven't played for a number of months but it's a risk worth taking.
“Dan [Bentley]pulled off two one-on-one saves to keep us in the game and they were throwing caution to the wind towards the end.”

That's my reading of it. July-16 would be the latest date for the appeal, but we're waiting to hear the date for the expedited appeal.

Like us, Salford have only won one game at home in their league. Also like us, they've done better away. In fact they've won all eight of their away games!
They're in fourth place in the Northern Premier, although they'd go top if they were to win their three games in hand over the leading club.
Salford play at the same level of the pyramid as Chesham United. I'm hoping that Chesham's position in their table (currently 17th) means that they won't give us as hard a game as Salford gave the Pies.
