I thought Scotland were pretty unlucky to be honest. Nice to know that after 23 years some things never change - Scotland never get any luck in the group stage of major championships. Wales on the other hand always get oodles of it on the rare occasions they actually qualify. If those scores had been the other way round I don't think either team could complain.

The first goal was against the run of play and the second was taken brilliantly and but for a strange decision to shoot rather than pass by Scotland, the opportunity for the second would never have arisen.
Still, more pride, passion, desire and unity in the team and crowd than there was in the Oppressors game on Sunday. 😎🏴

The result is what counts, Spain were all over Sweden last night but never got the result that the press and TV pundits think they should have had, you don't score and you have no chance of winning 🏴

Discounting the hardliner Rangers/ Celtic take on it, i've never understood why the majority of Scotish fans want the England football team to fail, when most of the England fans want Scotland to do well.
Obviously, 99% of Gas fans will always want City to fail whatever the circumstances and City via versa.
Does anyone have the answer as to why we have a soft spot for Scotland but its not reciprociated?
UTG and ENGLAND!

Does anyone have the answer as to why we have a soft spot for Scotland but its not reciprociated? UTG and ENGLAND! Patriotism and nationalism runs deep in Scotland mate. All my dads side are jocks, which makes me 1/4 jock and I was always surprised at the vitriol directed towards the English. It's largely because they hate seeing England as the powerhouse of contribution to their country so they try to devolve as much as possible from politics to religion and even currency and that tribalism spills into sport. You'll mostly hear england being spoken of is the place you drive through to get to Wales! The irish and welsh are much more highly regarded in esteem and opinion. From the english point of view, I think we see them as an underdog, a bit like Wales, maybe one or 2 great players in the team that probably deserve to have a shot at a tournament win like Robertson and Bale for example, and because they are part of the UK, we like to see them do well. Wales and Scotland see that as us looking down on them.

Working in Edinburgh when Scotland last appeared in any finals, the early morning saw hundreds making their way to Hearts stadium for the live screenings and shops coming to a standstill while games were in motion, the aftermath in the streets later that evening were somewhat hilarious with the state of many being absolutely blasted and finding great difficulty to discover that they had feet to stand on ,any sort of support in the way of walls and lampposts were greatly appreciated 😂

Hmm ITB - woman I know locally (S. Glos) comes from Scotland. Her husband is local and has a St. George flag tattoo. She told me that when going back to Glasgow, the tattoo had to be carefully covered up. The whole thing with them is a bit ridiculous - seem to need someone to blame. I originate from Somerset. Do I bang about the Monmouth Rebellion and Judge Jeffreys ? It will be interesting to see what happens when they get independence, though I doubt I'll be around by then.

Scots deep down know which side their bread is buttered, and they are acutely aware that despite all of what Sturgeon proports and Salmand before her, they could never achieve true independence which is why, you have the patriots on one side acting like Robert The Bruce and the realists on the otherside knowing they cannot survive not being part of the UK.

I have to say I enjoyed watching Scotland being beaten more than watching England win. The sight of their keeper ending up in the back of the net with the ball was a sight to behold. Marvellous.

If those years coincided with a young kid getting into football perhaps it still shapes their thinking today? Personally I am always happy to see them get beat and the same goes for Wales

Most of the Scots love the banter and winding up the English. Some of it is just in the moment. For example I went with a team for a charity football weekend where we played Ayr Thistle to raise money for Sands as a friend knew the captain and he had lost a baby at birth. They welcomed us with open arms and then said to hurry up and get changed as they wanted to kick ten bags of s**te out of the English! It was a great game of football with no quarter given. That night they took us out and we had one of the best nights ever. Fantastic hosts. The next day we went to a pub with them to watch the Old Firm game on the TV. The team then divided in the pub with Rangers fans in one room and Celtic fans in another. They sang sectarian songs, threatened violence against their rivals and caused general mayhem. When the game was over they all went into another room where they were buying each other drinks and getting generally pissed together. One of my best and oddest weekends away! I'll never understanbd them.
PS it makes me laugh that many Scots moan about the now non existent never sung verse of the UK National Anthem about sorting out the Scots and then sing a song as National Anthem about beating up the English King Teddy!!

I will be watching fridays game with an old mate whos a shi##ead and also happens to be Sco##ish - After 40 odd years of hurt on a local basis where he's had a lot of fun at my expense claiming i now support a team that once made up a blue half of Bristol to a club which now only makes up a quarter. So I'am looking forward to giving some back friday when ENGERLAND beat the Scots.
