My favourite ever player.
Remember standing on the South Enclosure and at half-time having to watch the groundman flatten all the divots from where he had turned the full back inside out.
To this day I still think he would have developed into a better left winger for England than the similar aged Chris Waddle.
Rovers legend is used far too frequently on forums, however not in this case.

The lad was unpretentious and unassuming. He had qualities that made him easy to like.
His life was his football and to earn a living from playing it, was his dream.
Mickey had great natural ability and in my opinion was destined for great things.
Remembering Mickey, makes me proud to be a Rovers' supporter.
Watch his near-post header ...

Great memories from that Millwall match.
In the middle of Paul Randall's autobiography and many good words written about Mike Barrett. What a player.
When you look back at players like Randall & Barrett you realise what a complete & utter mess we are in!
I'm not sure if the current squad will have one idea of what this club was all about.

Wow....is it really 30 yrs?? i went to Micky's funeral, church was full of emotion. Was the only time i seen Ian Holloway crying. Mickys death seemed to come so quick after being dianosed with cancer. RIP Micky, will never be forgotton.

Yes, i remember the Millwall match as if it were yesterday, 1-2 down and in Mickey's last home game tues 8th may 1984 he scored 2 goals to win the match. This then sparked a lot of trouble from the Millwall hoolies who were in the stand and they threw seats like frisbees, a few Rovers fans had gashes to the head from these. Paul Randall was my fav player but Mickey Barrett will always be as big a gas legend too. Rovers finished in 5th place in his final season with us.

I was very fortunate to see him play, he would have gone on to be a real star in the game I am sure of that.
I remember taking my cousin a Saints fan to see a game at Eastville and he didn't stop talking about our winger the whole night.
Such a tragic loss to his family and Rovers too.

Without doubt one of finest to wear the quarters, local lad as well, was a privilege to see him play.

Hard to believe it is 30 years. I remember coming home from work and my mum telling me the news and being pole axed by it. My dad had died the previous year, and in the previous month a gòod mate and also a cousin of mine had both died in tragic circumstances. I didnt know Mickey but I think his death brought home to me that none of us are immortal, and it is really the only time I have ever been upset over the death of someone I didnt know.

Played against him in. 6's tournament at Longwell green. I was pretty fast in those days and did 13 sec 100 merges but my first 20 metres were the fastest. I was in front him, eye in the ball. I swear he was a magician. I stood there with him gone and the ball in the net, wondering wtf he did. I still do not know what or how he did it. Superb player, liked to talk a lot and a genuine man. Would have been a prem player, no doubt of that.
