Team is set up in the style of the manager... If Glenn Hoddle was our manager we'd have more skillful midfielders pinging Hollywood passes for fun. GC has us set up to be hard to beat and we have some steel about us... Personally I was never a fan of Glenn Hoddle

Tyler Smith is everything Nichols isn’t, how the hell did Nichols completely miss the target about 20 minutes in?. He was snivelling to get off from the middle of the second half. I’m sick and tired of the fraud, I am also sick and tired of the bickering between those that feel sorry for him and those that are sick of him. GC must be under instruction to play him to justify the transfer fee robbery and his wages. Fantastic performance from the team and fans today. If you think there's a fuss about Nichols now, just you wait until the end of his contract when he starts actually getting stuck in because he wants another meal ticket here and we can all see just how much he's been taking the p1ss for 2 1/2 years.

Oh look, a "Tommy Nichols is crap" thread. We won somehow. Tom never had a chance apart from the one he put wide. Clarke Harris misses too as does Smith. We are 4th and I have no idea how, as the football is dreadful. This will go wrong soon. My apologies for being uncharitable as am normally positive, but I personally find nothing this manager does to make me feel we're going anywhere. Um..UTG. The really odd thing about Nichols is that, for some reason, everybody, myself included, seems to stick with him and at the start of every game we hope that he'll get some fire in his belly and get stuck right in. Sadly, I think we're going to have to wait until the last few weeks of his contract to see this happen. Best that we send him off to Bath or anywhere that will take him and give the shirt to a player prepared to get hurt for the cause. Totally agree Bamber. The statistically worst EVER Rovers centre forward. He doesn’t even do the basics asked of a footballer. It’s like starting a game with ten players. People clapped him off today.

The current form table makes good reading too: Hence I don't understand why B***** won MOTM. Poor message to send out by EFL, innocent til proven guilty blah blah, but Lambert surely deserved it if not GC.

I actually thought Tom Nichols showed a good first touch today. Held and shielded the ball well at times. I don’t think he’s an instinctive first touch finisher and for much of his time here hasn’t popped up in the right place at the right time. Some players are stand out at one level of football, struggle in the league above. Was it forrester we had couldn’t break into third tier, left us for fourth tier and scored for fun. Maybe Nichols will prove the same. You can sing about the defence if you want to, I think we are fourth for two reasons. Ed & Abu. They are both at the top of their game. Soon as one of their players received the ball Abu was right there like Harvey Weinstein on an intern, yes picture that because some of what Og was doing to them looked little different. Ask any gashead at game today are we sure to finish in top ten, will you put money on it, I’m not sure many would. We have had a kind run of fixtures, though Rotherham are no mugs. But at least we are dispatching the like of Dons and MK rather than the struggle of last season.

Tyler ran his heart out and created a couple of chances for himself. Excellent performance from Tyler Smith. Well done. Very mature.

Interesting how different people see things. Nichols had a header on target in the first half. Headed one close over 2nd half, everyone moans, yet Kilgour did the same 5 minutes earlier and it was 'oohh that was close'. He's better than he was last season, should have scored first half, at least got it on target but wasn't that bad. Note Smith shot instead of squaring to him 2nd half, the trust isn't there possibly.

A good win, well deserved against an opposition that lacked belief, cutting edge and any punch upfront.
Our keeper was redundant. Love the jersey comment.
His kicking is a bit suss but glad for him to get a clean sheet. Jak is much more assured though.
I think their player should have been booked for stopping his kick but it was 10 minutes in and unfortunately the ref just warned the player. Wrong call IMO.
The back 3 help each other look comfortable and give them time on the ball. They are also an extra head in both boxes but mainly on opposition crosses which we tend to deal with well.
Craig was outstanding and should keep the captaincy when Clarke is fit. Noticed him berating Vic and Smith late on for losing possession up top. It's a team game defence. Get the team in a line, ask them who is responsible for defence, all 11 should put their hands up not just 4/5.
If it's up the other end, they can't score.
Kilgour was good again, Davies excellent, my Pompey mate said he was down their pecking order when they won promotion and was ok not brilliant, but he's certainly found his club in Rovers.
Leahy underrated, does the simple things well as I've said all season. Rodman is 32 and playing out of position and being asked to play the fittest role in the pitch, hats off to him. I've always rated him and he did well today.
Abu and Upson are proving an excellent partnership. Really bossing games. The 5 in midfield helps them flood the middle and break up play, or force the opposition out wide, where our 3 centre backs mop up the crosses.
Sercombe played well, looked back to his best, I'll be gutted if Clarke gets back in ahead of him as he deserves his place.
Smith was ok but a bit greedy at times, sometimes makes the wrong decision but does the job of making their defenders work.
Nichols wasn't that bad, but should have hit the target at least with that shot.
Hargreaves proved exactly what I said about giving a kid a chance, shame we didn't see Deon today. He won the ball, drove at the defence and won a free kick. Got the crowd onside straight away.
Bennett should not have a place in the squad.
Victor is a naive player who struggles to control the ball well and is not the answer.
Well done again GC, unbeaten at home after the s*it of last season, he is proving everyone wrong with key players out. 3-5-2 works. It was my idea. Thank you.
We won without JCH proving no one is irreplaceable. Calm the ego.
MK were poor. The crowd was more than 7800, someone's on the fiddle i reckon.
Oh yeah, i missed the goal as queueing to get a drink..

Enjoyed the write up Mango.Just wish Deon would get a go.Won't be any worse than Victor or Tommy Nic.Not a fan of Smith, too lightweight for me.Deon should at least be given a chance to be the new JCH.His positioning in the pre season friendly at Kidderminster was exceptional.

Congratulations to Cameron Hargreaves!, a solid debut for the Gas, first touch of the ball was to win a strong tackle that looked likely for him to lose, followed by a run at the Don's defence that only a sea of outstretched legs prevented him charging into the box, this young lad has got some steel about him, looking forward to seeing more...UTG!.

But what comes with that is the tendency to lose possession easily although he was better yesterday, imo. Cameron H did well and I liked GCs comment about if youngsters are good enough they will get the chance. Bad luck about the goal, we don’t score too many so to miss a match winning one....! UTG!

A couple of observations.
MK Done had 56 per cent possession and only managed 5 shots with 1 on target. Defensively, we are very solid. Without playing a high press, we win the ball all over the pitch.
The side will improve when Mark Little and THD are fit to play the wing-back roles.
Victor A should have been selected from the start instead of the perpetually ineffective Tom N. Anyone who says that we did not miss JCH is deluded. He would have scored yesterday, without doubt.

Impressed with Craig, Davies, Upson and Smith today. Kilgour made some important challenges but missed a real chance to put us two up. MK kept the ball better than us. We missed Sercs when he went off and dare I say it although we missed JCH threat Smith handled the lone striker role well. Victor holds ball up and may be used instead of Nichols at Donny. We have not missed Ollie Clarke ether. As GC said in post match interview our real tests are coming over the next few weeks Donny away, Portsmouth and Sunderland. Good to get another clean sheet breeds confidence. Our best signing this summer must be Davies.
