Saw this emotional message from Stuart Taylor's daughter Emma on my Bristol Rovers legends facebook group this morning.
"My beautiful Dad is very poorly. Parkinson's and Dementia is now very advanced. Dad is in hospital! Could I please ask that if anyone has a big Rovers flag....just the gas flag....could I buy it please? I would like to put it on the ceiling of Mr Stuart Taylor's ceiling in his hospital room. It will be the first and last thing he will look up at every day. He has always looked up to his beloved gas....I want him to do It literally! If you know where I can buy one, or would be kind enough to donate one to our legend.....please get in touch".
I last spoke to Stuart must be over four seasons ago now at the Mem and he still loved watching Rovers and always followed the Club's fortunes. He is a real gentleman and as we know the record appearance maker for Rovers we surely will never be broken. Lots of fans have now responded by sending good wishes messages to his daughter.

Another Legend cursed by Parkinson's (Mohammed Ali, Michael J Fox and Billy Connolly to name a few others) Now 'one of our own' so sad my thoughts with Stuart, family and friends.
Unfortunately I do not have a large Gas flag, I did have one when Stuart all 6 foot 5 of him played for the Gas back in 1978. I lost it in the 5 all draw with Charlton of which I have 'relieved' another story from that game previously.
This is precisely why the quote 'evolution not revolution' gets me so riled up - It's vital El Presidente gets his finger out (and his wallet!) and makes something happen otherwise all the endeavour players and fans past and present will count for nothing.
Frustrating, this proud club, if backed, undoubtedly would thrive in the Championship, and with the massive protential fan base the Premier league as well. By the prognosis it's going to be to late for Stuart, I would like to think the Club could sort out a large flag for Emma, to help lighten their mood.
For all the affiliated members of the Gas club, all we can do is hope serious progress is made on and off the pitch. If not there will be more of us who won't live to see the Gas finally reach their protential, including myself also dealt the 'Parkinson Card'

Has Emma not got in touch with the Club directly? Surely someone there can do something to help out? Harry - can you point her in the right direction. Tom Gorringe would be a good place to start (well he would know get the right person involved). UTG.

I was sad to read the opening post yesterday,I sent a message to an old mate to ask if we could do something and he replied that he had already spoken to the lady concerned and it was sorted,so hopefully Stuart now has a flag or its on its way. I was wondering if one of the old blue and white shirts (not quartered) that he would have worn in the majority of his playing days would bring back some happy memories for him,you never know what might bring some happiness to someone who is suffering like he must be.

A superb gesture and his wife Pam and daughter Emma have had some very nice messages from many gasheads on facebook.
The Rovers former players Association two years ago provided a specially made comfortable bed from their funds for Stuart.

Stuart Taylor is BRFC royalty. In an age when words are overused, the word legend would be an understatement. I will never forget those League Cup matches in the early 70s when teams in Division 1 and 2 ( we were Division 3) could not handle when Stuart came up for a corner. Newcastle, Norwich, Birmingham spring to mind from memory, sure there are others as well. A true gentleman as well as his football ability. UTG!

I am too young, so unfortunately missed all of his career but I know he is one of my Dad's favourites. Stuart will probably hold the Rovers appearance record forever. With the way the modern game operates, it will take an exceptional set of circumstances and an exceptional talent, to provide someone with the time and opportunity to get near it. Even if you combined Chris Lines' (313) and Tom Lockyer's (254) totals, you would only surpass Stuart's record (546) by 20-odd appearances*. Hopefully the club are doing all they can to offer support to the family of one of our greatest Sons. *(Stats from Wikipedia, so willing to stand corrected but you get the point).

I mean, they are correct, they are league appearances not Football League appearances.
