Just as I went to go through the turnstiles yesterday, I was asked to remove my forage-style cap. The young female security guard then felt inside the lining before returning it. As I stand in the East terrace it's necessary due to the sun. And the club sold it to me. Hmm.... Somebody watching too much TV?

I saw some old guy, probably in his 80s, made to take his hat off so that they could check inside of it at the East terrace turnstiles. Good job security.

Home crowds down 2,000 things like that won't make them return.

Home crowds down 2,000 things like that won't make them return. It won't stop anybody attending. Most people are happy that security is taken seriously, but a little discretion would go a long way, I mean, that old boy in his 80s isn't exactly John Steed or Odd Job, he's not likely to go on a murderous rampage up and down the East Terrace.

Time to drag out another cliché: Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I do not mind being searched as it deters terrorists, and the Mem is a possible target with a large mass of people. The frisking, though, is a little half-hearted and not thorough. As for older people being searched, there is no typical terrorist, and if you did not check them they could be used as carriers. (Hopefully it may also deter the clowns with flares, which soon will be attracting another fine from the FA.)

If people are that concerned about terrorism, they'd be better off worrying about the actions of their own government, who were quite happy to turn a blind eye when British terrorists were traveling to Syria to 'fight' Assad and Gaddafi.
Or is terrorism only a problem when we are on the receiving end?
Terrorist hotbeds in both Iraq and Libya both emerged as a consequence of western intervention. Our American friends have also supported terrorists to the point where they could be labelled as state sponsors of it.
Strange that people should use words like 'security' and 'terrorism' without taking these things into account?

Igitur - I totally agree with you basically, but, er, how many razor slashing have we had at the Mem? How many bombs? Though it's difficult to see how I'd get one under my cap. I just think some prior announcement would have been nice, and perhaps some explanation as to why.

"We regret to inform you that we will being conducting random stop and search checks because the actions of successive governments have left the club and its fans substantially more exposed to terrorism." Can't see that being announced over the Mem tannoy somehow. You are right though - Rovers vs Accrington probably isn't high on the ISIS target list.........
