am i the only rovers fan that loves the mem? i love the blackthorn terrace and the natural acoustics that create so much noise and atmosphere.i also find the east and west stands impressive and like the fact the ground is in a built up urban area with people, shops and pubs surrounding it. does anyone else feel the same? im cold and disinterested by uwe in south gloucestershire but maybe im just naive?

I like where the Mem is for all the reasons you say but the ground itself is pretty crap. In fact it's worse than what we had 50 years ago and there are not many clubs who can claim that dubious honour.
If the UWE stadium could fit on and be built on the site of the Mem I would be happy,. If UWE doesn't happen I would be happy with a 20,000 all seater Mem.

I been watching gas since 1989 and the Mem hs never felt like home to me, its nothing to do with it being a dump because i loved playing at twerton park which felt like home, id play back at twerton any day over the mem.
blackhorn terrace where i stand doesnt have the same homely feeling as the popular side did at twerton.

The Mem in its current state = lower league/non league football. I personally aspire to greater things. UWE is key to realising these aspirations.

Tin hat on here....It really doesn't matter a crap where you play, Winning football is the ingredient that makes us all happy, of course you could say better facilities etc will attract more people and have things that raise revenue, but, When any team is winning - everythings good and ok, When you're losing (like we have for the last.....years) everything is crap and wrong. Football is a Sport, Sport is about winning! Every aspect of the club is affected by results on the pitch. the rest is peripheral. UTG

Great location, but its a crap 'stadium'. As for atmos, when theres 10,000 its great. Rebuild with 18,000 enclosed capacity would make me very happy.

I love the Mem too but it's all I know cuz I'm an embryo. I love the location and the fact that we still have terraces.

I like the Mem,but I want the UWE and all oppurtunity it may bring.
I think after all the years of hoping for a new stadium,if the UWE doesn't happen it will be a big blow against Rovers.

if you think the Mem is a dump you obviously never went to Twerton Park ..that was is a dump HATED THE PLACE ...only good times were 2 may 1990 and the Liverpool FA cup tie ..getting wet and so few seats ...disgraceful
Eastville in the 70's was amazing big crowds CHELSEA, BRISTOL CITY, MAN UTD 33,000, STOKE CITY 34,000, league cup runs to the quarter finals against Villa 30,000 for those youngsters who missed it we will never see those attendances ever again at the Mem or UWE

How on earth can anyone love that horrible, run down dump?!
Lets list the things that make this place a dump of a football ground shall we...
First and foremost it is very clearly a rugby ground disguised as a football stadium! From the large spaces behind the nets to the very ugly looking half length centenary stand, the whole places still reeks of rugby! I think that is the main reason I have never felt at home there, because it always felt like we were borrowing a rugby teams home until we found something of our own.. Fast forward almost two decades...
The west stand, can anyone explain to me why on earth we decided after moving in to build a bloody cricket pavilion where a modern football stand should have gone?! I have never ever understood that! It literally couldn't look any more out of place could it?! Looks like it was picked up on the cheap when Lords was having a refurb and dumped at the Memorial Stadium, Bristol. Just awful looking and ironically enough it is the most modern/costly part of the ground as far as we are concerned!
The PA system, do I need to add anything to this? Just plain awful!
The scoreboards, I am yet to find a superhuman being in the centenary stand who has been able to read the tiny little 1 meter long score board placed at the top of the West Stand and I am sure the same applies on the opposite side of the ground. Just awful and bloody embarrassing!
Speaking of scoreboards... Our old one is just as embarrassing! Why has that never been fixed?! It has been stuck on the same thing for as long as I can now remember! I wouldn't mind if it were stuck on 'Gas 1 - Robbins 0' or something else memorable like that, but no! It is instead seemingly stuck on some sort of bloody Japanese riddle! Again, so embarrassing!
Santas Grotto... Now when I say Santas grotto I am not just talking about Santas grotto really, but also all of the other hideous out buildings as well! Be that the match day ticket collection point or the merchandise caravan, it all just feels temporary, cheap and nasty! Again, a complete embarrassment!
And finally, the real embarrassment of the Mem for me... The South Stand! Every time we open that up for away fans I literally cringe at the thought of them all sat in their wetting themselves at the state of our rickety old tent we call a stand! Can you imagine the laugh the Southampton fans must have had for example?! Again, this was a so called 'temporary measure'... 18 years odd ago!!!
For all of the above and many many more I hate the dump and certainly won't miss it to be honest! But of all of the above, the one that really seals my dislike of the place is the fact that it looks and feels like a rugby stadium and thus has never ever felt like home for me, more like we were borrowing a pitch for a while... or 18 years as it transpired.
So no, I don't love it and can't wait to leave.

At Eastville our Reserves played in the Football Combination in front of crowds that would make the likes of Morecambe and Dagenham blush.Spurs Scottish International Jimmy Robertson made his debut at Eastville for their reserves and there was a very large crowd.Appreciate your sentiments over the 'Mem' but in truth the 'Tent' sums it up.Wether UWE or a better Mem is open to debate but we simply need to improve our facilities in order to progress although personally I think we lack any real ambition as a club.
