I'm glad they gave the bloke a second chance. Everyone should get a second chance to put things right. We're all only human after all and we all make embarrassing mistakes. He's probably been under a bit of pressure recently, what with Brexit stalling, the Gas falling, the Sh*te rising, First Bus fares going up and probably no Thatcher's to be had anywhere near Oakwell.

Blimey quite a few sticking up for Payne. If I told one of my customers at work to F**k off or called them a wa*ker I'd be sacked, end of. This guy has had more clubs than Fred Flintstone and according to Shrews fans this reaction is not out of character either... If I had a load of bellicose puss heads spending two hours slagging me off while I’m trying to do my job I’d probably snap as well. People who dish out stick but can’t take it when there is a reaction are the lowest of the low. At Twerton once, Andy Gurney was having a mare and after he had given away a goal, I shouted something like he was fing useless and he turned to me and flipped me the finger. It's probably what I would have done and we all had a good laugh!

I was a north enclosure 11 year old stood at the front quite near the away dugout and can remember the old charlton athletic manager theo foley doing a sneak v sign to rovers fans while still facing the pitch after getting some hammer from the crowd. The kids at the front found it hilarious. 1971 probably.

I was once in London and saw Lynda Bellingham and told her Oxo was crap and Bisto is a far superior product. She agreed.

I am (almost) sure that Megson had concrete block dug outs built on the South Enclosure terracing and they stayed there until the fire and the dug outs were later in front of the North enclosure, I cant remember where they were pre Megson,did they just have benches in front of the North enclosure ?

3 stick in the mind;
One a very unpleasant incident involving Holloway, who fairly early in his management tenure completely lost it with a guy in the disabled section by the tunnel who would give him foul abuse as he walked off after every game. Ollie's reaction was actually understandable but it didn't look very good at all. Holloway was a bit of a nightmare for that though and it wasn't the only time I saw him react badly - couldn't take stick from his own fans at all. Many seemed to give him a pass for doing things that other players or managers would have been slammed for.
A referee in an FA Cup game giving a subtle w****r sign and ironic grin at someone laying into him as he came off at half time - I thought it was quite funny but almost caused a riot! I reckon it was one of his last fixtures and he'd always dreamed of doing that!
Trevor Challis getting a ton of stick all second half in a dire Tuesday night game lost his cool, turned to the crowd in the West Stand when taking a throw in and said 'why don't all just f**k off?' That one backfired badly on him though because for the rest of his time as a Rovers player whenever he had the ball on that side of pitch you could guarantee someone would gleefully shout 'f**k off Trevor' at him.
The only one I can remember thinking was truly outrageous was Mark Stallard, who always got stick from Rovers fans for the Notts County incident, deliberately smashing a ball at head height at the kids leaning on the fence in the Family Enclosure from about 5 yeards away. Incredily stupid thing to do. The referee ticked him off - I honestly thought he could have been arrested.

This reminds me of the game Jennison Myrie-Williams was subbed off because he completely lost his head at the stick he was getting from the Blackthorn End, he was on loan at Tranmere from City and bit in the first couple of minutes. With that the stick grew, and grew, and grew, a booking followed and he was subbed off quite earlier. A moral victory for Gasheads and the perfect example of the way it should be done in my opinion. That said if it does bite you on the arse and that player scores or whatever, you have to take the stick back.

Many years ago I was at a match at Eastville, at a time when Gordon Fearnley was playing for us. It was approaching full-time and the Rovers were awarded a corner at the Muller Road end of the ground. I cannot remember the score, but as I was keen for the corner to be taken asap we definitely weren't winning. In any event Gordon came slowly towards the south enclosure side to take the kick, and the people around me were becoming exasperated with the time that he was taking to prepare himself. He acknowledged the crowd and took the kick, which was headed in (I believe). But in the meantime the referee had blown his whistle for full-time whilst the ball was in the air, and crucially before it had crossed the line. Poor old Gordon turned to the crowd for some comfort and was met with what he least wanted, but the point is that he didn't react to the observations that came his way . . . possibly because he was a professional, and possibly because he knew that the crowd was justified to be frustrated with his actions.

Theo foley was stood up by the north enclosure as i remember it about 1971 when he did his v sign so im assuming the dugouts were on that side at the time. Cant remember about megson having them on the other side.

Roger Malone commentating, the Teddy boy (bloke) steward, ankle deep mud, happy days. I seem to remember that when they built the dug outs there were complaints about losing so many places in the South enclosure.
