Was given a reality check this morning ... forget Ivan Toney, Christian Doidge, Devante Cole et al.... we are trying to sign Padraig Amond from Newport County and getting knocked back.
They want £300k and we are pleading poverty ... Sadly Nicholls isn’t being offered as part of any deal.
He has scored fairly regularly and is probably better than what we have currently ... only posting to help everyone stay grounded on the level of what we can expect .

Any number nine playing for Rovers will get enough chances to score 15 a season.

Rovers have never spent any money.
One of the criticsims of the current board is that via their "Evolution, not revolution" theory, they will continue to do the same as those in the past and not splash big bucks on signings. By the looks of it, that may well be an accurate critique.
I will be amazed if we end up spending anything like £300k on a replacement. If we do, then that may be a welcome signal that the board are prepared to invest in a little revolution here and there, if the situation demands it.

Was it £75m that Southampton got for van Dijk? Did they spend anything like £30m on his replacement?

Would be ok as a second number 9 (playing a little wide like Gaffers) but would say £150k very tops and we would still need another number 9 to balance out our two shorter forwards.

I've seen him play a few times for Grimsby where he looked good but that was Vanarama football, playing in a strong side with the likes of Craig Disley and Omar Bogle alongside him. As you say he's not really a central target man either, at around six feet tall. Newport paid peanuts for him and all his other moves were free transfers - I wonder if he and Newport are still dining out on the goal he scored against Spurs in the FA Cup.

We badly need three strikers at this club and not just any old strikers but Marks And Spencer strikers.

If we clearly can't afford to spend much then we need to go non league and take a chance they're out there.

Three days to go and still NO sign of anybody is seriously poor … Can only hope deals are being finalised and announcements made ready.
I want to shout 'Negligence' at our Board but to be honest i'm not convinced they would care! Thought things would be much smoother with Tommy W behind the scenes but so far doesn't feel great.
That said if they announce Devante Cole and AN Other on Thursday all will be forgiven …. I sense more chance of Nat King Cole though.

Surel we can’t wait this late to sign anyone how can they be expected to play when they wouldn’t even know the other players names let alone how they play think Hamer and Wael played a blinder here sign no one have a diasterous start to the season and everyone wlil be so concerned they won’t be on the forums moaning about stadiums and training grounds unfortunately they may not be on the terraces either I believe a bad start and crowds will drop drastically then who’s going to buy all the £4 sausage rolls and £2 cups of coke

Was it £75m that Southampton got for van Dijk? Did they spend anything like £30m on his replacement? Southampton received £71m in December 2017 from Liverpool for van Dijk, of which at least 10% (possibly as much as 15%) of (at least) the profit made went back to Celtic, so around £6-7m.
Since van Dijk's departure, Southampton spent £22.5m in July '18 on Jannik Vestergaard from Monchengladbach. In the saga leading to van Dijk's departure, Southampton paid £15m for Wesley Hoedt from Lazio.
So 6 months either side of van Dijk's departure, they had spent £37.5m on two centre backs. Their profit from the van Dijk sale (£65m), less the two replacements they signed (£37.5m) is about £28m.
Southampton also had a ready-made, previously unused option at centre back already in their club (Jack Stephens), who began starting in the first team for Southampton during the 2016-17 season, making a total of 39 league starts across the last two seasons. He had been out on loan in the years before.
Rovers do not have replacements in the squad or the development team, who appear to be ready (yet) to replace Ellis.
I said I would be amazed if Rovers spent £300k on a replacement. Although I'd love to see DC be given such funds and would be delighted if £300k was the budget, I think it is more likely that Darrell will have to work at least one loan deal, with a permanent signing coming in on a free or for around the £150k mark.

I can only think of the new CEO and Mr Gorringe but I cannot think of anyone that fits the Tommy W criteria. Care to educate me please ?

Agree. Money for transfer fees does not automatically mean they have that money to spend

Agree. Money for transfer fees does not automatically mean they have that money to spend I think it’s fairly obvious the money is gone and set against the 2million debt, I guess ?
