Sorry but as the old cliché goes, "it's the same for both sides." Managers and players look for any reason to cover up shortcomings in either selection or tactics. Players do this as well, look at Locks, team captain, coming out after Wimbledon (ooh 'er) to say that the forwards did not perform, as the manager had already said that, the defence lost the game, the attack did not win it. There's always a search for blame, it appears very quickly in TV interviews. The pitch is bad, but our results on it have not been too bad, 10 wins and 6 defeats home to 4 and 3 away.
It may be frustrating to lose or draw key matches, and not to play the kind of football you would like, but look at selections, formations and tactics first.
Edit:
Blimey I could be a BP journo, mind you anyone could, just read today's:
I used to like Darrell Clarke’s style of never making excuses when he first became the manager, now he seems to be full of them.
He is obsessed with the state of the Memorial Stadium pitch at the moment and his apology to the fans over the poor game on Saturday should have had nothing to do with the playing surface.
I know the standard of pitches are a lot better than they used to be but you cannot blame the grass for so many poor passes and a lack of ideas going forward or point to the sand for the ball being so high in the sky, especially in the first half.
Some may remember how we won promotion at Twerton Park. The pitch was never really up to league standard but I don’t remember Rovers boss Gerry Francis running it down.
Mind you DC is still a hero to me.
