The headline could be taken 2 ways either stating the Obvious or they actually know something!

Well if that were so,the entire board would have to resign after the comments the board made at the Q & A.

The BoD said they may have to fund a shortfall at the Q and A because of rising costs

Given UWE's involvement, cross-party political support and the benefits to the wider community of the project I'd be pretty surprised if it really was dead in the water. Who knows though, given the amount of smoke and mirrors around the stadium issue we've had so far.

Any chance of a source about the 'dead in the water'? As to the Bristol Post it seems strange they put in there what the story tomorrow is, why not just publish it now? In any case, that headline is pretty obvious: we've known all along that the "Stadium won't happen unless the club can fund it", and we've known along that funding is coming from Sainsburys. Nothing new really, unless they are trying to say something else?

Not doubting you Norton but surely something as important as that (issue involves Gas, UWE, Sainsbury, MPs etc) would be newsworthy today.....
Have you a link to the newsfeed?

Well if that were so,the entire board would have to resign after the comments the board made at the Q & A. They were hardly going to admit it in front of 90 blokes without Dave Harper being there with 50 plus stewards and an Avon & Somerset riot unit on standby. The comments from Higgs about not caring what Sainsburys did with the land struck me as a man who was worried and desperate.

Looks like it's just a sensationalist spin on the funding the shortfall coz of rising costs thing.
It's always been the case that the club will have to fund the stadium; we just had the wherewithal to fund it from the Mem sale. Now we have to fund it from the Mem sale, and a bit extra.

Strange that Westcountrygas. When NH said it, it was the most forthright and confident statement yet from him.
The immediate thought that crossed my mind was, he is totally confident it is going to happen, and that's how I feel.
I have believed for some time that Sainsburys probably feel they are paying way over the top for the Mem. They are probably putting feelers out to see if we will accept less than agreed. They are looking to see who blinks first.
That's a no brainer. We can only accept an offer that means we can afford the new stadium,or we go nowhere.
The EP have basically supported our attempt to get the UWE, and I think they are running the story for the exact opposite reason. To put pressure on Sainsburys should they be holding back at all.
At the end of the day what will happen is what has already been agreed upon legally. Now we will find out if our lawyers are worth what they have been paid. If NH was right that there is no get out, and I have no reason to disbelieve him, we shall know very soon now.
Do tell Nortongas. Who is your source? Let me guess. That sh*thead tosser on OTIB, or Father Christmas. You should get out more.
Don't you think someone saw the EP teaser headline and then told you that load of b*llocks?

If it wasn't happening I would expect a bigger story than teasing it for tomorrow

News that big (dead in the water) wouldn't wait until tomorrow. That would be headline news NOW. I'm guessing a readers letter or rehash of old story...? Who knows.

Why on earth would Sainsburys be looking to get the mem at a cheaper price when we are 'supposed' to be at an advance stage with contracts etc, the haggling about the price should have been done and dusted over a year ago, this is a multi million pound deal were talking about, not a deal to buy a second car where the buyer changes his mind at the last minute. Nick Higgs can say whatever he wants, it's the silence from Sainsburys that is deafening, the club can paint as positive a picture as they want, the fact is we completely rely on hearing how Sainsburys feel about it, they are the only ones who's opinion matters.

As someone pointed out, if they had something new then they would wish to break the story exclusively and sell papers rather than alert other news agencies
It is interesting to hear that many forum members would would once again place the blame on Nick Higgs . Please remember that Sainsburies strategy only changed in the last few months and this meant that the Review cost us a new stadium. Sainsburies stategy changed in the time that it took Rovers to overcome the objections that were raised and for the Review process to be carried out .
Make no doubt about it though that Charlotte Leslie didnt just get involved in this because she loves Bristol Rovers - it was the first in a number of stepping stones that brings a new infrastructure to the north of the City which would ultimately bring employment and jobs to areas which are presently struggling with a lack of investment.
If the stadium fails to happen then this will be a serious own goal for Bristol and one would hope that the real culprits are not allowed to hide behind the democratic process that they exploited.
