Will we see much difference between the standard of Football witnessed last season in league 2 (4th tier) and this season in the conference(5th tier)? I know the conference is classed as non league but there are a lot of our old rivals in here with us, as well as some smaller teams. The gap between league and non league is getting smaller all the time, who would have thought to ever see the Crawley's and Stevenage's of this world as league clubs. I don't think we will see much difference, maybe smaller away support at the Mem and smaller grounds to visit, but football wise it will be very similar.

The referees will be even worse.
Hopefully we get knocked out of the FA Trophy in the first round, as apparently it causes havoc to a league campaign.

Hopefully we DON'T get knocked out in the first round as there aren't exactly going to be a lot of cup games this season as no JPT or Carling Cup. We should be approaching EVERY game as winnable. I know they aren't but that is the way I expect our team to approach them.

Been told by an Oxford fan that the standard of reffing is poorer - and the ref tends to favour the smaller club

Yeah, iirc he said that very little consideration is given to when you might want to play your rearranged fixtures; the Conf basically makes you play them as soon as possible.

The reffing tends to be odd, some poorer than the league and some on their way up.

Our record against small clubs coming up into League 2 wasn't that much to shout home about. Let's hope Clarke gets the mental preparation right.

Besides I can't think of anything more embarrassing that being in such a competition! FA Cup of course should be taken seriously with full strength side.

In the hope of a good money generating game in the third round? That's the only plus I can see. Get on with the Conference boys

Yeah, we could be portrayed as brave giant killers, fighting against the odds, well above our weight, if we draw someone like Stevenage or Cambridge in the first round.

Oh yeah.....and be aware when at away matches of some fans who like to swap ends at half time I am not sure why people find this so mentionable. I used to watch conference football regularly and actually only a few fans swap ends at half time and then it was only because the grounds were not segregated and it was always to give more vocal support to the attackers. When I moved to Bristol and first started to watch Rovers at Eastville , I thought it must be harder for the attackers to be playing into empty terracing with no atmosphere.

Should go hard out to get to the trophy final, potentially worth a few hundred grand if we can shift some tickets +prize money. Any sort of success will be a tonic for the players and fans. It's achievable, we are the highest ranked division in the competition. i saw Woking lift the trophy 3 times in '94, '95 & '97. It's a great day out.
