As proud, or should that be prowed as you you Sags like to say, as you were of your fellow Horse Punching Sags! Everything about my club disgusts you? Everything about your club makes me laugh! Yet you still feel threatened enough to have to read our forums? Enjoy the 20 place gap, bought with £400 million of Lansdown's money, shame he didn't want to pay tax on it, he thought it was more important to fund a football club than pay back into the society that created his wealth. You must be so proud. How's Trevor Tainton these days, you remember him don't you, tore up his contract in 1982, not because he wanted to, because he was pressured into doing it, there were threats against players and their families, then Trevor went bankrupt. This is part of what sickens me, all that money on a vanity project, and yet I've searched the internet and can't find anything about 1982 Ltd doing anything to make sure that the people who made that sacrifice back then are OK. We even had to organise the testimonial for Peter Aitken, that was at the same time as you lot were spending fifty million pounds on your ground. You bring shame on our great City. Not a single redeeming feature, horrible club, nasty support base, as evidenced by your arrogance. I'm glad there's a gap, it means I don't have to worry about your lot creating mayhem once a year at our place. Now, back under your rock, S'hed. Feel threatened? No I’m on here to wind sad little losers like you up, and it’s worked a treat! I wouldn’t be so moralistic if I was you, especially with all the recent rumours regarding your new training ground. Your club is a blemish on this City, you should of stayed at Twerton and rotted.

You've come here giving it the 'aren't we great' routine, had a quick history lesson, can't address any of the points and now have nothing left to use but speculation based on rumour. For every moron who follows Rovers I'll find you 2 City supporters who think it's a good idea to do things like vandalise memorials erected in honour of people who fought for our country. Off you trot, S'hed, back to your own forum, I'm done with you, you aren't even a challenge.

Ah, Hup. A fantastic album by the magnificent Wonderstuff. Try Eight Legged Groove Machine...that's TWO funky horses to punch.

What is your preoccupation with history? Is it the fact it’s a whole 17 years since you were above us in the league? History is all you’ve got as your future is pretty bleak isn’t it?

Come back Kaiser,at least you had a semblance of intelligence. Nope. He was thick and snide. Hup has a loveable rogue quality about him. I like him, despite his dubious allegiance and shoddy angling. 👍

But most important, and what sets him apart from Cassey, he hasn't boastfully posted pics of fake Tudor pillars, yet.

Back on topic, there's no "bias", really.
City are chasing promotion to the Premier League and have won games against huge teams; Rovers are in a lazy, lukewarm struggle against League 1 mediocrity. City have their own stadium, a big one; Rovers are still stuck at the Mem, following what feels like one of the biggest fiascos in recent history. City have enough money to sign players; Rovers kept running against the clock to strengthen at least 4 positions and so far only came up with an ex-Aldershot striker (*who I'm rooting for*!! it's just for comparison's sake). City's PR is active, their media team is competent, and like him or not, Lansdown knows (mostly) when and how to show up and talk; Rovers' PR and media are nonexistant despite having hired people for that purpose last year, Hamer has trouble getting his message across and the Al-Qadis are one big mystery most of the time. City's bigger recent news are beating Man United, Rover's bigger recent news are selling Bodin for an undisclosed fee and some vague developments on the incognito training ground.
We all love Rovers here but let's call a spade a spade. Rovers isn't newsworthy right now. Even if we weren't in League 1 midtable etc, our lack of communication (be it club-to-supporter or just PR in general) ensures that the media hardly ever has anything to report about us, hence some vehicles having to check here and on gaschat... or on (heaven forbid) the Appreciation Facebook group.
What I hope the club does is stop "minding the gap", accept we're the poor neighbor, and start working on ourselves before comparing stuff to the lot across the river. Taylor happened last season, this season we have no need to keep mentioning them or looking toward their achievements other than foolish rivalry pride; let them do them and we do us, so that hopefully, one day, either they'll drop so much or we'll climb so high that we can pound their a***s like older days.

You know it says quite a lot about football fans that we obsess so much over this sort of thing. We might be under the delusion that anybody else really cares about our petty jealousies. Case in point my Aunt who has no interest in football whatsoever but has in the past bought me little Rovers trinkets as gifts e-mailed me a few weeks to say 'I saw Bristol City beat Manchester United- you must be very happy'. When I responded explaining the reality of the situation I just got a one word response 'bless'.
Just another reminder that the one thing you cannot afford to have as a football fan is any real sense of perspective whatsoever - that's the beginning of the end. I'm personally very happy with that situation.

I guess as football fans we all go through stages of support (and experience) as we grow older. From young, naïve kids, to teenagers, young adults, older adults and the more senior adults I am 35, getting older. my boy turns 1 tomorrow. I just can’t be obsessed or get uptight about football rivalries or similar like I used to. I still have my moments every now and then and I ‘actively’ take part in the games (always happy to give the ref or oppo manager/coaches some stick), but I always find it amazing how some particularly the older middle-aged fans (across football as a whole) who have presumably experienced parent-hood, changing responsibilities and just how football works in general etc, get so easily wound up and lose the plot

I believe the line is that 'of all the least important things football is the most important'. Also not everyone does go on that journey nor are they under any obligation. Supporting a football club is a fundamentally crackers thing to do if you stop and think about it in context for any reasonable length of time. Is it the best way to watch the sport? Arguably not - most of the time you are choosing to watch a lower standard/worst quality game then you would do if you just chose to watch the best football match that was on that day. Is it the most cost-effective way to watch the sport? Absolutely 100% not. Is it the best way to gain the intangible benefits it offers? (emotional connection, common endevour, atmosphere, sense of community, getting outside and meeting people etc) probably not - with the exception of the most one eyed fan nearly all of us can probably think of better ways to do these things. Nevertheless - very few would trade in the experience of being a football fan. Being that committed to any activity is pretty hard to justify on rational grounds - but being that committed to supporting a professional football club is particularly hard to justify I think. In the context of a football world in which most the game is made up of interchangeable pros drawn from all over the place and willing to play for whoever pays them and the primary modern purpose of most football clubs existence is to act as an appreciating asset for its owners, in the words of Jerry Seinfeld as football supporters we are just 'rooting for laundry'. Point is we know all of this but we still feel the emotional connection which is what makes the thing worthwhile. So I like to remind myself that when people moan about stuff like this or Ellis Harrison going to watch City etc etc it's worth remembering that without the kind of underlying ties that produces those overreactions there probably is no football club to support. It's the tendency to care far too much about something that fundamentally doesn't matter very much that keeps the whole show on the road particularly for a club like Rovers.

Did Rovers actually sign a player? Only ask because all day SAM FM have been reporting that lot from the wrong side of town signed someone yesterday and officially confirmed it today, but nothing about Rovers.

I appreciate it's a commercial radio station and it's paid for, but Sam FM's recent City coverage has cost them my listenership.
(that and the fact my new car has a digital radio)

I honestly don't know what that is. For how effective our communication is we may as well use Semaphore.
