It doesn't matter if they were going to fund it themselves or look for partners, the point still stands, unless I'm missing something fundamental, UWE was a hugely cheaper way of getting a stadium built. Don't believe a word of that stuff about Higgs, he's a Gashead don't you know? built and viable are 2 different things mind Well, my understanding was that the land was being given in exchange for naming rights. If they could get, just say, £15m for The Mem and they still can't make the thing work then you have to wonder what exactly they want? Maybe they were expecting UWE to give them the land, build the thing and still give it to them for free? And remember, Wael had the very best experts in the field to ensure that the design and facilities were perfect. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Giving an interview after the collapse of the latest multi million pound stadium project was pointless? Repeating what Hamer said was yes. Do we need to be told the same things twice? Maybe some fans do. I take it you have no answers then, so busy choose to ignore the questions LOL. Do you not think if it was a good deal for the club, it would have been built? What ever the boards intention? A good deal for Dwane Sports would be an adequate return on their investment. Wael failed to secure it with the UWE. The numbers did not add up. It is about money. A good deal for Bristol Rovers would be to move a new stadium. And be able to operate without incurring annual losses. (This assumes we would be in a position to service the debt). A good deal for Dwane Sports is not the same thing as a good deal for Bristol Rovers.

In all fairness to wael I don't think he quite did his homework on prices in this part of the country. Only the south East being more expensive, even he is probably shocked at prices being quoted let alone Hani !

Building costs will remain pretty steady wherever you are in the country, land is a different issue. Either way we're not buying any land...

We know the answer, if you are serious then the introduction price for doing it to a decent standard is £45,000,000. That's what 1982 have spent, their's is OK but not spectacular from what I can see. Just in case you can't decide on a reason from the list why it won't happen, I'll give you one. £45m was the price for UWE with all of the additional benefits, car parking, better access, scope to increase size later etc etc etc, but they would have got around £15m for The Mem, so nett spend would have been £30m, and they would have had something better. Hit delete for all memory files associated with new stadiums. To be fair even if they only spend £2 million on the training ground to start with, that's better than we have now! Plus they bought the land in the first place. So how much would they have spent on it all together?? Instead of being happy for making progress, even if slower than we would like, fans want them to go. Atleast we can carry out renting training facilities long term then! Some fans need to be careful what they wish for. Land that is being left to grow wild doesn’t bring in any income at all. These things take time you know. I appreciate you trying to see the positives but we are haemorrhaging close to 2 million each season. Do you think the owners will continue to underwrite this ? There is a sense of urgency lacking and this could seriously damage us when & if the DWANE sport decide they will draw down their debts. It’s alright saying it takes time but I personally think the rift between the brothers will inevitably come to a point of no return and then what ?

The FA puts money in to the top graded academies. Last season (in our league) Bolton picked up £180,000. Meanwhile for years the FL would put matched funding in to and stadium project / development. At one point there were only 2 clubs that didn't take advantage of this. We were one of them. We've always wanted a new ground but we've always wanted someone else to pay for it. I spoke to GD when we first moved in to the Mem and he told me that very little would be done to the Mem as it needed too much work and it would be more beneficial, and cheaper to build a totally new ground. Although he didn't tell me I understand that a new ground would be VAT free whilst re developing is VAT chargeable.
Although it seems recently, planning permission for the UWE was a few years ago. When it was announced GD said, "Great news Paul, we have PP for a new ground at the UWE". I replied "Yes, and I'll be an OAP before it's built". Quick as a flash and with a huge smile he replied, "Well you'll be able to get a cheap seat then!"
I'm 65 on Thursday.
