I saw Dover v Colchester yesterday. Dover are a really bright, attacking side which appear to be better than Rovers in my opinion.
There is pace on both flanks, the strikers and fast and dominating, a good mix and the players are coached to play a way which obviously works. I think an each way bet for Dover to go up would be a good investment. What is unfortunate is that they have players Rovers would love to have.
Tom Murphy - young winger, pace to purn, never gives up. I'd take him over Bob Monkhouse any day. And he'll be on less wages. Stephan Payne - Bright, young striker, netted over 25 times for Hornchurch looks a real pacey threat. Better than Matty Taylor. Nathan Elder - Big, Devon White type player. Loves football and all but the biggest guys just bounce off him. Better than Brunt, bigger, stronger and more fitter Ricky Modeste - Flying winger, really skilful and will never stop running. Runner up in the footballer icon show. Struggles to last 90 minutes however I'd take him over the Matthew Lund / Olly Clarke figures every day of the week. Christian Nanetti - small but skilful player, very similar to Wayne Brown but more direct. I like this player, dangerous coming off the bench.
The principle of the post is that seeing this team does enforce how much quality is out there and how we are not better than other teams, if anything lacking. It's a indication of how a manager such as Chris Kinnear, who knows the club and the league, has recruited incredibly well. For a town of 10,000 they have a team that they can be proud of. They also have based their Conference team strategy on goals, they will try to outscore opponents and so teams like us are pretty stuck if we go a goal down given our apparent blunt ness in front of goal (and history of being terrible once we concede).

Why have you compared a winger to a defensive midfielder. What about comparing him to the wingers we actually have?
Personally i have no idea on the quality of what we have signed outside of the needed experience in Monkhouse and Mansell. Sometimes the team is greater than the sum of its parts and I hope DC can acheive that

I can't see how you can say they are better than the examples you have given just yet. DC has been known to get a real team spirit with Salusbury and they won promotion in the play offs both times with Salisbury not doing brilliantly, tables position wise, though whose fitness had proved to come good in the latter part of the season. I have had the opportunity to read up on him now and it seems he likes , to near obsession, to have an extremely fit side so that the team can perform over the entire season and, while others start to drop off, his teams have then pushed on. I hope we can do the same and my heart says this is possible but my head says we lack the most important facet right now in that we do not have the creative players to give scoring opportunities to the strikers. I'll not judge the bloke just yet but we desperately need at least two creative types to stand a chance. I feel that, right now, we will continue to look impotent in front of goal. I also fear we have not yet seen the last of players leaving with Cardiff looking at Lockyer and Parkes attracting interest from at least two clubs. Hey, don't get me wrong. I want us and DC to do well, I really do but I think we have been hamstrung with the budget he was promised to the reality of the budget he has been given. As much as I understand we need to stop the long contracts, a good player is not going to uproot for a 12 month deal. They are like us all in that this is their livelihood and will want to get the best deal they can. Right now we are unable or refusing to give out the type of deal that would see the better players join us. Let's hope we really do have the loans ready to use should we not get the players DC had earmarked to join us. We really do need to start well. If we have an indifferent start then I feel the discontent within many, will then see the crowds dwindle.

Part time Dover, who scraped into the league via the Conference South Play offs, will finish in the bottom four this season. We can all make predictions on squads we have never seen in competitive action.

I do not know a thing about any of these players to be honest; however, I view Rovers as a club who should be pushing to be in the top six of division 1 of the FL. That said I expect DC to be putting a team together at the moment that will eventually be competing at a higher level asap; therefore, I would also expect the team Clarke is putting together at the moment to be a lot better than Dover. i think akinde plays for dover? He plays for Barnet, he signed for them this summer from Alfreton where he scored 18 goals. Puts the goalscoring worries into perspective doesn't it? Akinde managed 18 in one season.

Went to the park today and ended up watching a kick about game played by a few kids who were about 14.
One kid was in goal, made a couple of great saves and even saved a penalty, DEFINITELY better than Mildenhall.
One kid was crossing, he skinned his 8 year old younger brother for pace so DEFINITELY better than Monkhouse.
As for the kid up front..... Think combination of Messi and Bergkamp, scored about 30 goals in one game, all from within 10 yards. DEFINITELY better than Brunt and Taylor put together.
I would suggest if these boys entered the Conference alone they would finish above us in the league. God it's depressing being a Rovers fan.

The game ended 2-2. I know nothing about Dover although I fully expect every team in the Conference Premier to be capable of giving anyone a competitive game including the "part time" teams. Colchester's match report for what it's worth is here: www.cu-fc.com/news/article/250714-dover-report-1782950.aspx
