It went very well, over a hundred attended would be my guess. Good food, great company, some interesting speakers including DC who did a half hour Q & A.
He confirmed that no current player has a "get out" clause written into their contract.
Partingtons fitness issue is a hamstring which is being "managed" the choice between him or Leadbitter is also down to the opposition, if they have a speedy winger then Leadbitter gets the nod.
DC said he was offered half a million pounds wages to manage Leeds.
DC also said there are about 30 scouts at Rovers games and he regularly gets phone calls from agent asking about players.
DC admitted that its difficult to compete in league one with clubs in that league that are ex Championship clubs as their budgets are so much bigger.
There was an exchange of views between DC and one of the atendees who tried to take issue with DC, but the points he tried to make were based on rumours which DC corrected him on.
Lots of light hearted banter, which was nice as it was a celebration of the inaugural lunch.
Next one is the Christmas Lunch on December 7th.

DC was as always honest and refreshing....he mentioned Trollope's days at BS7.
A question about conceding so many goals was asked. He said 8 were from set pieces and two in particular by Burn at Bradford. He said that had to improve.
He confirmed that he was trying with Bodin and his agent to agree to an extension on his contract. If not he and possibly others may be off. Rovers like most league one clubs are targets for Championship sides recruiting players.
He confirmed Rovers cannot compete with Charlton, Rotherham, Wigan, Blackburn and as usual stated Rovers must over achieve if we challenge for the play offs. Fans felt Taylor leaving for £200or £300k made us a laughing stock on the red side of town as clearly had he stayed, we may have made the play offs. But DC said "who would turn down wages of £12k a week".
He confirmed if we finish mid table this season and next he was a "sitting duck" and the fans/management would want him gone.
Someone said when will Rovers sign their first £1m player he confirmed never. He knew Tillson remains at £375k our highest signing.
Again the training ground was highlighted as being vital to attract players as clearly we cant compete to get players in if they want £6k a week.
Also he said he should have signed a defensive midfielder as Linesy was not a good defender. He confirmed Taylor had not been replaced and he was looking for another Taylor type player from our development squad.
One question not asked which most would love an answer to is ...Would you (DC) have still signed a five year new contract if you knew the UWE stadium was not going to be built ?

One question not asked which most would love an answer to is ...Would you (DC) have still signed a five year new contract if you knew the UWE stadium was not going to be built ? 'Most' and 'love'? Why d'you say that? It's an irrelevant hypothetical non-issue. What would you do with the answer? I'd have thought it was a daft waste of time to ask that.

This dude certainly wouldn't want DC gone should we finish mid table. How absolutely f**king mental.
Much like the time hoards of Gasheads questioned Lennie's contribution to the playing staff 8 years back, we'll find ourselves back in League 2 in no time (& Championship football will be nothing but a mere fantasy) if DC is shown the door.
That is a cert.

That is a cert. In the summer of 2014, at the Supporters Club open meeting, I shook Darrell's hand and wished him all the best for the season ahead in the Conference. But if you had used one of those Star Trek type scanners on my heart, you might have detected a hint of ..."but I'm not sure you're up to the job". If I'd been at the Diamond Club lunch and had the chance to speak to DC again, I'm not sure I could have found words adequate to express my gratitude sufficiently. His achievements over the last three years are well documented, but the manner of his leadership has also been inspirational. That's why I hope he goes on to lead Rovers for many seasons to come.

Absolutely. Been left pretty gobsmacked at these 'taken us as far as he can' comments, floating around the interweb. Utter bollox if ever you've seen it. Certainly a case of 'careful what you wish for' all over again.

I believe he wanted a much higher budget than he got and was deflated by the UWE debacle and the clear fact that the training ground will not be ready for 2018. I would love him to stay despite those facts but its not in his interest career wise imo

I think that DC could take Rovers further if he is given the finances,I guess that is the same for some other managers.
I wonder if DC was sacked as a scapegoat whether the owner would be walking in with the Rovers fans at the next away game, would be funny if the Police had to come in and rescue him from angry DC loyalists.
I have had doubts about some of the things that DC has done, team selection, formation etc, however over the last 3 seasons he has proved himself right,he has made some excellent signings for very little outlay and made the best of limited resources.
DC knows which positions need strengthening and I have no doubt that he would have brought players in if the cash was available as he knows that his job depends on continued success.

only one question per table mate....and as our esteemed contributor said it was irrelevant and as we know Seth knows best ! Didn't you ask Darrell about the fee paid for Matthew Taylor? we paid Forest Green Rovers nothing ...It was widely reported the release clause in his Rovers contract was widely reported The Guardian said "Taylor insisted he weighed up all the potential problems away from football when he was told last weekend that City had activated the £300,000 release clause in his contract. “I think if I had any doubt about it, I wouldn’t be sitting here,” he said. “I know the repercussions and that a lot of people will be quite annoyed at times but I’m sure it will die down over the years … hopefully,” Taylor said, laughing a little anxiously."
I was more concerned about Bodin, if again as was widely reported Rovers recently turned down a £500k bid from a Championship club I was intrigue do know if he had a release clause in his current/future extension contract. Thankfully DC confirmed he did not have

Work contracts are supposed to be confidential between employee and employer including any "get out" clauses. They should not be "widely reported". The fact that the rumours and conjecture turned out to be accurate means that someone party to the contract broke the confidentiality clause. That could only be Taylor and his family, his agent, former directors or an employee of Bristol Rovers FC. So, in whose interest was it to accurately report the get out clause... I would say Taylor & his family, his agent or people/former directors connected to BRFC with an axe to grind.... take your pick.
